Chapter 7: Invisible Wings Takes Flight

She had to admit that Qin Yu was right; a joint performance with a debut idol would undoubtedly leave a lasting impression on the audience.

If she were to perform alone, even with an excellent song, the buzz and impact would be significantly diminished.

Yet, she couldn’t quite fathom Qin Yu’s true intentions.

“Didn’t we agree that after I gave you the song, we’d only then start the ‘CP’ buzz?” Her nature was always straightforward; if a question arose, she couldn’t help but ask it immediately. She was determined to understand Qin Yu’s purpose.

“I have faith in the song you wrote!” Qin Yu’s long eyelashes fluttered as she blinked.

“Hmph.” Taking the microphone, she honestly rolled her eyes at Qin Yu, simultaneously signaling that she was ready.

Let this song be the initial set of wings, ready to soar into the sky!

Qin Yu’s hand settled on the guitar strings, striking the first note. Though she had only heard the melody once, Qin Yu flawlessly reproduced the entire piece.

Such innate talent was truly astonishing. However, Lin Ziyao was the only one present who knew the truth.

Even Director Chen assumed they had rehearsed the segment beforehand in the room during their thirty-minute break.

As the prelude began, Feng Qiqi, sensitive to melodies, instinctively straightened her posture. Director Chen noticed this subtle movement and quietly inquired from below the stage, “Is this melody special?”

Seeing Feng Qiqi shake her head, Director Chen’s heart sank. ‘Could it be that it wasn’t good enough?’

“The melody isn’t particularly unique; in fact, it’s quite gentle,” Feng Qiqi replied, not directly answering Director Chen’s question. “However, it’s incredibly catchy and easy to remember after just one listen.”

“Every time,

I grow strong amidst wandering loneliness.

Every time,

Even when deeply hurt, I don’t let tears show.

I know

I’ve always had a pair of invisible wings,

Carrying me to fly beyond despair.”

Blessed by the system, Lin Ziyao’s voice perfectly brought the song to life, imbuing it with both inspiration and healing.

From just the opening lines, Qin Yu’s fingers, which had been playing, almost faltered.

“I don’t dwell

On their possession of a beautiful sun.

I see

That even the daily sunset changes.

I know

I’ve always had a pair of invisible wings,

Carrying me and giving me hope.”

“First, it crosses despair, then it bestows hope—this song possesses incredible emotional breadth!” Xu Li, being the one with the most life experience among them, offered a sharp, incisive critique.

Yang Tian, a trainee himself, understood the immense difficulty of composing an original song. He nodded in agreement with Xu Li’s assessment.

Observing the serious expressions of the guests below the stage, Lin Ziyao knew the song had been well-received. This was a song that could even be adapted into a college entrance exam essay topic, a testament to its profound impact at the time.

She gathered her composure, preparing for the first emotional crescendo.

“I finally see all my dreams blossom,

Youth in pursuit,

My song so clear and bright.

I finally soar,

Gazing intently without fear.

Wherever the wind blows, I’ll fly that far.”

The moment this chorus emerged, Director Chen’s gaze towards Lin Ziyao utterly transformed. As a director, he naturally possessed an understanding of music and immediately recognized the song’s intrinsic value.

Furthermore, he was aware of Lin Ziyao’s family circumstances. When viewed in that context, the song was clearly her own creation, penned to inspire herself.

After the final repetition of the verse and chorus, Lin Ziyao’s performance of the song reached its concluding phase.

“Invisible wings make dreams last longer than the sky,

Leaving a wish for oneself to imagine.”

As Lin Ziyao lowered the microphone, everyone present, without exception, erupted into applause. Even Qin Yu, who had just released her grip on the guitar strings, was among them.

“This song is exceptionally well-written. You could even use it to strike a deal with me,” Qin Yu remarked, her face reflecting genuine sincerity.

Previously, having only heard the melody, she had believed she could compose suitable lyrics.

Yet, Lin Ziyao’s lyrical composition left her utterly speechless. Even if Qin Yu herself were to try, she couldn’t have penned lyrics that better captured the song’s essence.

Lin Ziyao glared at her in response. “Don’t even think about it. I’ve already decided on the song for you.”

Once Lin Ziyao and Qin Yu returned to their seats, Director Chen eagerly began his interview. “Qin Yu, I’d like to ask, was this song something you had planned to perform in advance?”

Qin Yu, of course, understood Director Chen’s objective. She cooperatively shook her head and stated, “As I mentioned, Lin Ziyao performed this song just now in the room; it wasn’t something we had discussed.”

“As for my talent performance, it’s already happened,” Qin Yu added, a mischievous smile playing on her lips. “Director Chen, you can try to guess what it was!”

“Was it the guitar?” Dai Wen, who had remained silent until now, ventured a guess.

Qin Yu shook her head, refuting Dai Wen’s conjecture. “I originally intended to perform the guitar.”

“It’s rapid memorization, isn’t it!” Lin Ziyao said, looking at Qin Yu from her seat. “After all, you can reproduce it perfectly after just one listen.”

Director Chen, surprised by Lin Ziyao’s accurate guess, sought confirmation from Qin Yu. He watched as Qin Yu nodded in admission.

“Now then, Lin Ziyao, does the song you just performed have a title?” Director Chen fixed his gaze on her.

This song, in both its lyrical meaning and melody, conveyed hope, warmth, and stability. Coupled with the power in Lin Ziyao’s voice, it had the capacity to inspire people to rise again and face adversity.

Such songwriting and arrangement capabilities were indeed on par with Qin Yu’s. It was not difficult to imagine the song, performed by both of them, becoming widely popular after the episode aired.

“The song is titled ‘Invisible Wings’.”

“‘Invisible Wings’?” Director Chen slowly savored and processed the profound impact of the song.

“This song will likely become popular once the show airs,” Yang Tian observed. As a trainee, he was adept at discerning trends in popular music.

Though the melody remained gentle for the most part, its emotional climaxes were powerful and deeply moving.

“I’d actually like to ask Lin Ziyao for the piano score,” Feng Qiqi mused. “A piano rendition of this song should convey an entirely different essence.”

After listening to the song, Feng Qiqi clearly had her own plans forming.

Unaware of everyone’s calculations, Lin Ziyao was currently engrossed in conversation with Qin Yu.

“Are you interested in publishing this song?” Qin Yu leaned closer to Lin Ziyao, asking.

Qin Yu’s suggestion prompted Lin Ziyao to consider it seriously, a rare occurrence for her. The songs obtained through system tasks would certainly not be limited to just a few, making the issue of publishing a definite consideration.

“Publishing is fine, but the copyright for all songs must remain in my possession,” she stated, outlining her condition after a moment of thought.

She had previously heard stories of singers who, after terminating contracts with their companies, couldn’t even perform their own songs due to copyright issues.

“Even the songs you give me?” Qin Yu asked, her curiosity piqued as she looked at Lin Ziyao’s conditions. “Will I have to pay to sing your songs then?”

“What? Is that a problem?” The success of “Invisible Wings” had filled her with confidence, and her tone grew noticeably more assertive.

However, in Qin Yu’s eyes, this display was merely an act of bravado.
