Chapter 75: Haunted

“What? Haunted by what?” I asked in alarm.
I had just emerged from the two incidents involving the Painted Skin Ghost and the life-claiming ghosts of Xia Yubing’s parents.
Hearing that this house was haunted made my whole being feel unwell.

And it probably wasn’t just the old man talking nonsense, because I could personally see that this house was filled with ominous aura and a spreading bloody color.
It was clearly not a normal house.

“It is said that this house was once inhabited by a married couple. They were very much in love. Later, it was heard that the wife had an affair. In a fit of anger, the husband killed her, dismembered her body, and hid it in the refrigerator,” the old man began his story.

“Later, it is said that the lewd laughter of a woman could be heard in the middle of the night. Not long after, the husband also mysteriously disappeared. His family then reported it to the police. When the police arrived, they found that the husband had also been dismembered, and his body was frozen in the refrigerator along with his wife’s. Their limbs were even difficult to separate.”

This story sent a chill down my spine.
Xiao Qing also showed a look of discomfort.
Mo Qingyan, on the other hand, seriously searched for news about this case and showed it to us.
The police announcement was: “A couple was tragically murdered by an enemy, both were dismembered and hidden in a refrigerator.”

“Sir, the police clearly said it was a murder out of enmity. Why do you say it’s haunted?” Mo Qingyan asked, feigning disbelief.

“Hehe, little girl, don’t be a disbeliever. There are many terrifying things in this world that you haven’t seen and don’t know about. I personally experienced this incident back then. After the husband disappeared, I even heard the ghost woman’s moans. It scared me so much that I didn’t dare to live here anymore,” the old man said with certainty.

“Then why did you move back later?” Ou Zhiqin asked.
If there was a haunted house next door, a normal person wouldn’t dare to live there anymore, right?

“Later, their relatives sold this ominous house for a cheap price. The new owner hired a Daoist priest to come and perform a ceremony to deliver the souls. After that, the woman’s moans were no longer heard at night. That Daoist priest also told us that it was safe to live around here, as long as we didn’t step into this house. I didn’t have money to buy a new house, so I could only reluctantly live here.”

After the old man finished, he looked at the already opened door with what seemed to be great apprehension, then turned and walked downstairs.

“Do you think what he said is true?” Xiao Qing looked at me and Mo Qingyan and asked in a low voice.
She couldn’t see the ominous aura and wasn’t sure.

“Well, Luo Xiao, what do you think?” Mo Qingyan looked at me.
I nodded and said, “The ominous aura and bloody energy in the room are very heavy. It should be true.”

“Then it must be right. This house was indeed haunted once. But it was probably a resentful spirit that only targeted its enemy, the husband. Its range of activity was also limited to this house, so the people around were fine,” Mo Qingyan said.

I walked into the living room and looked towards the place with the heaviest bloody energy.
It was a corner of the living room, with some residual dust on the floor.
It should have been where the refrigerator used to be, but the refrigerator that held the bodies had been taken away and disposed of, leaving only the resentful energy lingering here.

“Since the Daoist priest has already exorcised the evil, and the blood-stained furniture has been cleaned up, this house should still be habitable. Luo Xiao, do you want to consider just living here? Anyway, the people around are all fine,” Mo Qingyan asked with a smile.

“Senior Sister Mo, don’t joke. Let alone the fact that this house was once haunted, I couldn’t stand it even if it was just the scene of a murder. I definitely won’t live here. Let’s go see the third house,” I said quickly, already thinking that if the Xia family wanted to divide the property, I would definitely not want this one.

Thinking about it, Xia Yubing’s parents had actually bought an ominous house at a low price.
They probably wanted to wait for the matter to blow over and then sell it to a third party at a higher price.
They were connected to both the ominous house and the Fukang Commercial Center.
It was no wonder they would attract a demon like the Painted Skin Ghost.

We took a taxi again to the third house.
In the car, Mo Qingyan asked, “What if the third house also has something unclean? After all, it’s also a vacant house because the tenant moved out.”

“Then I’ll live in the first one. The worst that can happen is I buy a bed. I can add the furniture slowly,” I said through gritted teeth.
A wise man does not stand under a crumbling wall.
Being haunted these past few days had already worn me out.
A house without ghosts was my bottom line.

The third house was in a commercial apartment complex.
When we arrived at the entrance, I saw the sign of the complex read: Willow Cypress Garden.

Walking into the complex, it was shaded by green trees everywhere.
There were even small gardens between the several buildings.
It looked as if the houses were situated in a forest.
It was indeed worthy of its name.

The complex was not too new.
There were signs of life everywhere on the buildings, such as installed security bars, air conditioner outdoor units, clothes hanging out to dry, and so on.
The human presence here was very strong.
Every household had a visible aura, and the many auras mixed together to form an even larger aura that enveloped the entire complex.

Walking on the path, my impression of Willow Cypress Garden became even better.
Not only did it have sufficient human presence, but the facilities were also very complete.
There was a supermarket and even a wet market in the community, as well as a sports court and a swimming pool.
There was even a community hospital.
It had already formed an independent small society.
Many things could be resolved without leaving the complex, which was very convenient.

And these shops and facilities were very popular, with many people coming and going.
The business was excellent.
I could tell from my aura-sight that these shops had a prosperous wealth aura.

When we reached the bottom of the fourth building, I looked up at the tall building and felt very satisfied.
The overall aura of this building was very pure.
Most importantly, I didn’t see a single trace of ominous aura.
It was very clean.

At this moment, I noticed that Mo Qingyan had been looking around the complex.
I asked in confusion, “What are you looking at?”

“The Feng Shui. I want to see how the Feng Shui of this residential area is,” Mo Qingyan said.

“So, have you seen anything?” I asked with interest.
The Feng Shui formation of the Fukang Commercial Center had left a deep impression on me.

“No. I’m not a professional Feng Shui master, after all. Feng Shui is a vast and profound study. You can’t even be considered to have entered the door without studying it for more than ten years. How can someone like me, who has only learned some basics and can only apply them rigidly, claim to know the art of geomancy?” Mo Qingyan said with a dry laugh.

“Alright, let’s go upstairs and have a look,” I said.
The rental property was on the twelfth floor, so we needed to take the elevator up.

“Speaking of which, Xiao Qing, you didn’t seem to want to take the elevator at the hotel,” I recalled Xiao Qing’s behavior from the day before yesterday.
She had deliberately taken the stairs and pulled me along with her.

“Yes. I heard from Senior Brother Liang that elevators are very prone to being haunted, and the death rate from elevator hauntings is particularly high,” Ou Zhiqin said.

“Ah? There’s such a thing?” I looked at the narrow and cramped elevator and immediately felt a little uneasy.

“It’s fine. Elevator hauntings mainly trigger fear. Being trapped in such a small, enclosed space, unable to get out, with the lights flickering on and off, and even blood seeping through the door cracks, can easily cause a person’s mind to collapse, allowing a ghost to take advantage of the weakness. It’s much better if two or three people take the elevator together.”
