Lee Chae glared murderously and tried to turn away.
Haejin immediately closed in—chest lightly brushing his shoulder.
“Anyway, that’s not the point. Exams are over—let’s eat and watch a movie. Your brain needs a break too.”
…Should I?
He barely swallowed the words that almost betrayed him.
“No. I’m tired, going home. Even if it looks fine on the outside, the inside could be rotting. Rest for today.”
“Aah… right. Gotta listen to my baby.”
Surprisingly, Haejin didn’t whine further—just nodded.
“Then go home.”
Haejin said “Okay,” placed a hand on his head again.
Static shock—Lee Chae scowled.
Haejin quickly pulled back with an apologetic “sorry” and turned away, looking somehow forlorn.
Lee Chae meant to leave immediately, but his feet wouldn’t move.
The farther Haejin walked, the more those shoulders seemed to droop…
A complicated, indescribable feeling crashed over him all at once.
Am I insane?
He shook his head violently and bolted in the opposite direction.
If he stayed any longer, he’d end up following.
When they were apart, or at a safe distance, none of this happened.
Words came out as intended, he didn’t stand there like an idiot staring.
But the moment Haejin got close or they locked eyes—words spilled on their own, his body refused to move, like he was possessed.
Why the hell am I like this?
He didn’t understand himself.
Obviously annoying, irritating, hated—yet at the same time he worried, was curious, wanted to go along with him.
An unidentified emotion he’d never felt before.
And as always for Jung Lee Chae, unidentified = fear = must avoid.
That night he was exhausted but couldn’t sleep a wink—a miraculous phenomenon.
He’d always fallen asleep easily despite his sensitive nature because life was too busy.
What was this?
Haejin’s retreating back kept replaying in his head.
Is it the matching rate? Or… don’t tell me I actually…
Trying to think calmly was impossible; he’d never experienced this.
He shook his head again, closed his eyes.
Still no sleep.
Every version of Haejin from today kept surfacing.
When they were together he’d been furious—now lying down, he couldn’t even remember what was so infuriating.
“Thank you.”
Politely thanking him after guiding.
“People ignore greetings sometimes.”
Not getting angry when offended.
“Gotta listen to my baby.”
Even the way he turned and walked away nagged at him.
Lee Chae pulled the blanket over his head.
It’s just the abnormal reaction. Nothing special.
Closed his eyes again—five minutes later they snapped open.
He gave up sleeping, turned on the computer, and typed:
[Symptoms when a man falls in love]
Countless results poured in.
He found the cleanest survey and started checking.
Finished.
Interpretation for 8+ Yes:
Congratulations. You have contracted a severe case of one-sided love. If the other person feels the same, wonderful. If not, please refrain from becoming a stalker…
Lee Chae slammed the computer shut.
I’m the crazy one!
Trying to diagnose feelings with some stupid internet quiz—he was the idiot.
Stalker…? Who’s stalking who…
He’d hoped the quiz would tell him it was all delusion and he could sleep peacefully.
Instead he was even more pissed off in the middle of the night.
He greeted morning without a single minute of sleep.
Exam week—campus half-empty.
Bloodshot zombie Lee Chae shuffled to first period and froze at a nearby conversation.
“Who’s that? Never seen him.”
“Sunbae, you really don’t know me?”
“Nope.”
“I’ve been submitting applications to Legion nonstop. I’m Lee Sung-won, Jae-hyung’s friend. We’ve met tons of times when I was with Jae-hyung. Even drank together.”
“Never happened.”
“Really don’t remember?”
“Yeah, I’m terrible with faces anyway.”
One voice was definitely Haejin.
Lee Chae snorted.
“Terrible with faces,” my ass.
It was none of his business what Haejin talked about with someone else, yet his feet wouldn’t move.
“I told you back then how much I admire you, sunbae.”
“Right, cool. I’m busy, later—”
“W-wait! Heading to class now?”
“Yeah.”
“You don’t even need classes.”
Haejin’s sigh was so deep Lee Chae heard it from afar.
Then the real him came out.
“Whether I need class or not—what’s it to you? Stop pissing me off and get lost. I’ve been nice because of Jae-hyung, that’s it.”
“…Yes, sorry.”
Lee Chae thought that would end it.
The guy was persistent.
“But why doesn’t Legion take guides? I’m A-class, but I’m not an esper.”
Lee Chae turned toward the voices, crept closer, and peeked through the door crack.
Haejin’s face was completely crumpled, ready to walk away.
The guy in front was desperately trying to get in his good graces.
“Legion has no plans to take guides. Go.”
“J-just a sec. Didn’t like my application? Doesn’t have to be Legion—just meet me a few times? You don’t have an exclusive anyway.”
“No.”
Haejin’s face was visibly twisted with anger even from a distance, barely holding it in.
So he can make that face too.
Eavesdropping was rude, but Lee Chae couldn’t leave.
“Why?”
“Get lost. No talent, yet daring to approach me.”
Haejin turned away.
The guy followed again.
Lee Chae mentally screamed, Stop before he explodes.
Of course the guide couldn’t hear.
He jumped in front again, blocking the path.
“Tell me the reason and I’ll go.”
One corner of Haejin’s mouth twisted.
His gaze was ice-cold, freezing the air.
“I don’t like you.”
“But you said you don’t know me.”
“I don’t like that you can’t understand words, I don’t like that your interest is in me not Legion, I don’t like that you keep clinging when I say no.”
“Then at least let me into Legion.”
“Your energy feels cheap. Means you have no skill as a guide.”
“You never even looked at my application or tested me.”
Haejin’s eyes widened in rage.
“Listen up. I told you—I was being nice because of Jae-hyung, that’s over. I despise pieces of shit like you most in the world. The ones who latch onto high-rank espers hoping for handouts. Get lost before you see something uglier.”
The guy in front looked on the verge of tears.
You knew Cha Haejin’s personality is trash, why did you even try…
The pathetic sight was starting to look pitiful.
