Qiao Xia watched as the two police officers escorted Liu Ge into the patrol car, driving away until they became nothing more than a distant speck, vanishing from sight. Only then did he retract his gaze, turning to walk into Building 3, where he smoothly took the elevator up to the twentieth floor.
This time, no danger lurked. Qiao Xia’s feet landed safely on solid ground.
However, he did not immediately rush home to play games. Instead, his eyes fixed on the tightly shut door of Liu Ge’s apartment.
Today, beyond snatching an item right under the police’s noses, Qiao Xia intended to perform another daring feat.
He was going to break into an empty house.
With a hand that felt like it wanted to weep tears of frustration, he reached under the doormat and retrieved a key. As Qiao Xia fumbled with the lock, he couldn’t help but feel that his luck today had plummeted to an absolute low. He had never felt so utterly cursed in his entire life.
Perhaps, after living so long with smooth sailing, all his misfortune had decided to erupt in a single, catastrophic day.
‘Click.’
The moment the lock disengaged, a putrid stench assaulted him, nearly driving Qiao Xia back out before he could even step inside.
The smell was absolutely suffocating!
Recalling the stray cat carcass the committee members had removed from Liu Ge’s home, Qiao Xia instantly understood the source of the foul odor.
As he covered his nose and ventured into Liu Ge’s apartment, a scene akin to a gruesome murder site immediately unfolded before his eyes.
The wooden floor was marred everywhere with solidified, dark red stains. Some sections even bore dried remnants of internal organs that hadn’t been cleaned, a sight that turned Qiao Xia’s stomach. He quickly averted his gaze.
The entire living room was a scene of utter devastation, making Qiao Xia hesitant to even step foot inside.
Yet, the thought of that diary…
Qiao Xia muttered an apology to his beloved shoes, then immediately strode towards Liu Ge’s bedroom. He began rummaging through the cabinets, determined to unearth the mysterious diary.
Back when Liu Ge was still well, he had often invited Qiao Xia over for hotpot. Consequently, Qiao Xia knew Liu Ge’s apartment like the back of his hand and was certain the diary would be hidden within the bookshelf.
As he sifted through the bookshelf, Qiao Xia’s expression became wonderfully varied upon spotting titles like ‘Jin o Mei’ and ‘Young Mistress Bai o’—books he had only ever heard of in legends. He had never imagined Liu Ge possessed such an extensive collection!
He had visited countless times, yet had never bothered to glance at the bookshelf, thereby missing out on a prime opportunity to read such “precious” tomes.
Now, however, looking at these books, he found himself utterly devoid of any desire to read them.
His priority was still finding that diary.
Liu Ge’s extremely bizarre transformation deeply concerned Qiao Xia.
Especially after hearing insider information from the two police officers about numerous assault cases in recent days, Qiao Xia felt a growing unease. While these incidents might seem coincidental, the fat police officer’s mention of “red eyes” immediately struck Qiao Xia as anything but.
There were too many corresponding characteristics; they could undeniably be grouped together.
If his suspicions proved true, the situation might have already escalated into something far more dire.
The frequent assaults resembled a widespread viral outbreak. Once it spread, the consequences would be unimaginable!
The more he considered this, the more desperately Qiao Xia yearned to find the diary, hoping to glean some useful information from its pages.
Fortunately, the diary wasn’t hidden in some obscure corner. After Qiao Xia’s gaze swept past numerous lengthy tomes, he quickly spotted a black-covered notebook tucked away in a corner.
Once Qiao Xia retrieved the notebook, he saw the word ‘Diary’ scrawled crookedly on its cover—unmistakably Liu Ge’s handwriting.
Though Qiao Xia yearned to immediately open the diary and examine its contents, the overpowering stench in the apartment deterred him. He swiftly exited Liu Ge’s home with the diary in hand. After securely re-locking the door and replacing the key under the mat, he hurried back towards his own apartment.
As Qiao Xia unlocked his own door, the click of the latch falling into place brought a sense of relief, settling his anxious heart.
Home truly was a sanctuary.
Slipping off his shoes and donning his slippers, Qiao Xia quickly made his way to the living room. He eagerly flipped open the diary, eager to discover what exactly had transpired with Liu Ge.

– Life is getting too boring day by day, I want to go have some fun. That kid Qiao Xia is a good talent; he’s got a real viciousness when he fights. But he shouldn’t end up like me, fighting illegal matches. He should focus on his studies and strive for a better future!

– Holy hell, what’s wrong with Dalong? His eyes are all red today; he can’t be sick, can he? He wouldn’t even respond when I talked to him, and he kept staring at me with those creepy eyes. So strange.
September 23, 2020
– Damn it, the call girl I found today was super gorgeous, but her eyes were so red! It made me stare at her eyes the whole time, and I didn’t get to enjoy anything! Is there some kind of epidemic going around lately? Everyone around me is getting red eyes. I need to be careful not to get infected.
September 24, 2020
– Ahhhhh, my eyes are red too! The psychological pressure is immense. Maybe I should go hang out with Qiao Xia to distract myself.
September 25, 2020
– Dalong didn’t show up today. I heard he had an episode and bit someone! Holy crap, I just found out he and I have been seeing the same call girl recently. Could there really be an infectious disease?

– I lost my boxing match today. My body feels off, my reactions are too stiff. And my opponent’s muscles and veins looked… appetizing? Huh? Why would I think that? How utterly strange! This damn hand, I can barely even write anymore.
September 27, 2020
– My physical condition is terrible. I’ve asked the manager for a few days off. I can’t stand staying home, so I’ll go train with Qiao Xia! The kitten I caught yesterday died. How pitiful, I truly didn’t mean for it to happen.

– My… body… flesh… I… want… flesh…
The diary entries ended there, leaving Qiao Xia drenched in a cold sweat.
At first, Liu Ge’s handwriting remained shaky but largely consistent. However, towards the end, not only did the script become almost illegible, but the content itself sent shivers down Qiao Xia’s spine.
What was particularly terrifying was the repeated mention of Qiao Xia’s name throughout the diary.
Nevertheless, Qiao Xia had managed to unearth crucial clues from the diary.
Based on the diary’s collective entries, Liu Ge’s sudden, strange transformation stemmed from a certain call girl. Furthermore, he wasn’t the only one; even his underground boxing teammates had been infected.
Additionally, some individuals had been bitten and attacked by the infected.
Damn it, the more he thought about it, the more it felt like the plot of a zombie movie!
