Chapter 35: The Unyielding Door and a Grave Warning

“Ah, they’re killing people!”

“Oh heavens, I’m scared to death.”

“That person’s head fell off. Ugh, I’m going to throw up.”

“Why are you all just standing there? Call the police!”

As Li Lin Guan stood frozen, staring at the head rolling away, the other students around them couldn’t help but shriek. One by one, they descended into utter panic.

Some were merely struck pale with terror, which was fortunate. Others simply closed their eyes and fainted on the spot.

The scene quickly devolved into chaos, and the incessant noise made Qiao Xia’s head ache.

“Everyone, shut up! Will screaming help? Now, quickly, return to your respective classrooms, lock the doors, and don’t wander around.”

At that moment, Qiao Xia couldn’t help but shout, and his voice successfully silenced the clamor.

Previously, if an unknown figure like Qiao Xia had spoken, no one would have paid him any mind.

However, with Li Lin Guan, the school bully, publicly acknowledging Qiao Xia as his brother, Qiao Xia’s status had soared.

Naturally, people listened to him now, no one daring to underestimate him.

Once the chaos was quelled, Qiao Xia finally had a moment to look out through the glass main doors. He saw a red-eyed patient standing behind the unfortunate student whose head had fallen, clutching an axe stained with blood. They were still relentlessly hacking at the corpse.

The patient’s lowered head obscured their features, revealing only the blood splattering all over their body.

Qiao Xia noticed that the red-eyed patient’s face was clean, but their mouth was smeared with bits of flesh and blood. Given the absence of obvious wounds, Qiao Xia knew this was someone else’s flesh.

The red-eyed patient had consumed human flesh, which was why they were violently hacking at the corpse now, rather than continuing to drink blood or eat meat.

In his previous premonition, Qiao Xia had clearly seen that, in addition to their tendency for violent attacks, red-eyed patients also engaged in the disgusting act of consuming corpses.

He wondered if they would eat other animals besides humans.

That was a question for a future experiment, should the opportunity arise.

“Qiao Xia! Is that killer out there the red-eyed patient you mentioned?”

By this point, Li Lin Guan had finally recovered his senses, his usual relaxed demeanor replaced by a serious expression as he questioned Qiao Xia. His gaze remained fixed on the killer outside the glass doors.

Anyone who dared to commit murder in broad daylight must be a psychopath; otherwise, they wouldn’t engage in such outrageous behavior.

Typically, killers operated stealthily in the shadows. This individual, however, defied convention, openly murdering someone in a school, of all places. Not sentencing them to death would be a disservice to their sheer audacity.

Although Li Lin Guan was the infamous school bully of No. 1 High, he wasn’t inherently vicious. His usual antics involved little more than teasing younger students, never truly crossing the line. Of course, his confrontation with Qiao Xia yesterday stemmed from his goddess being stolen, an affront Li Lin Guan simply couldn’t swallow.

As it turned out, the person he intended to bully had become his savior, making any fight impossible.

Li Lin Guan could only offer a tearful blessing, hoping Qiao Xia would treat Duan Yulan well in the future.

“Yes! However, the red-eyed patients I encountered before weren’t this formidable. This one is intensely aggressive!”

Listening to Li Lin Guan’s question, Qiao Xia immediately nodded, his gaze similarly fixed on the killer.

Despite having gleaned considerable information from future premonitions, the insights were incomplete due to time constraints. Thus, he needed to observe carefully now, striving to gather more clues to complete the fragmented puzzle.

As the initially panicked crowd gradually regained their composure, their gazes, too, turned towards the glass doors.

Perhaps sensing the increased scrutiny, the blood-soaked killer outside suddenly lifted their head.

A pair of red eyes, seemingly weeping blood, stared intently at the people behind the glass doors, cold and merciless, like a predator sizing up its prey.

It was at this exact moment that the killer ceased hacking at the corpse. Then, axe in hand, they began to walk stiffly towards the glass doors.

Drops of fresh blood fell from the axe, leaving a trail on the ground as the killer advanced.

Witnessing this, many students nervously retreated, fearing the killer would breach the glass barrier and then hack them all to death with the axe.

Yet, Qiao Xia remained remarkably calm, despite the presence of the killer’s weapon. Not a trace of panic flickered across his face.

Even Li Lin Guan, the school bully standing beside him, instinctively took two steps back, his expression a mix of fear and worry.

If the glass doors weren’t sturdy enough, one swing of that axe could shatter them, putting all their lives in peril!

“Don’t worry. The glass in these doors is incredibly strong. Even with an axe, the killer won’t be able to break through.”

Qiao Xia watched Li Lin Guan’s anxious demeanor and immediately offered reassurance, stating that the killer wouldn’t be able to enter.

After all, without a premonition appearing, it meant there was no danger within the next ten minutes.

This was the fundamental reason for Qiao Xia’s composure.

“I hope those glass doors are strong enough!”

Even after hearing Qiao Xia say there was no danger, Li Lin Guan replied with a hint of lingering worry.

However, just as his words faded, the killer outside swung the axe directly at the glass doors.

Once. Twice.

They hacked many times, but the glass doors remained unyielding.

This allowed the previously anxious crowd to exhale in relief, knowing the killer outside couldn’t get in.

Fortunately, the glass doors had been closed in time. Otherwise, if such a brutal individual had gotten inside, their fates as defenseless students would have been truly dire!

At this thought, the students who had initially resented Qiao Xia’s meddling now cast grateful glances his way, simultaneously blushing with shame for their earlier accusations.

If Qiao Xia hadn’t insisted on closing the doors…

Qiao Xia, however, paid no mind to what others were thinking. Seeing that the red-eyed patient couldn’t breach the glass doors, he felt no relief. Instead, listening to the loud thud of the axe against the glass, his brows furrowed involuntarily.

Red-eyed patients were highly sensitive to sound. If there were other red-eyed patients outside, they would surely be drawn over.

Still, in this situation, Qiao Xia couldn’t exactly open the glass doors and kill the red-eyed patient outside.

He would have to take things one step at a time.

*Buzz buzz*

Just as Qiao Xia was contemplating the next development, his old phone suddenly rang. He quickly glanced down and saw that it was Zhou Li calling.

Qiao Xia instructed Li Lin Guan to guard the door, then found a quiet corner and answered the call.

“Qiao Xia! Are you alright? The epidemic in U City has become uncontrollable, so the nation has quarantined U City from other cities. If a solution isn’t found within a week, they’ll choose to completely destroy U City!”

However, upon answering the call, Zhou Li’s words instantly alarmed Qiao Xia.
