Chapter 15: A Trip to Myanmar, or a Rabbit Restaurant?

“Where am I taking you? Hmm… let me think…”

Hearing the trembling girl’s voice, as faint as a mosquito’s buzz, Gu Jiachen chuckled inwardly. After pretending to ponder for a moment, the esteemed CEO blurted out:

“Myanmar?”

“Gah? G-g-g-gah… The organ-harvesting country?! No—! I-I-I… I was wrong, I shouldn’t have dirtied your company’s restroom, Mr. Gu, please forgive me just this once, w-wah—!”

After her recent heavy bleeding, the girl’s heart was already somewhat fragile and vulnerable. Now, faced with Gu Jiachen’s lighthearted joke, the long-haired girl was on the verge of tears.

Gu Jiachen watched the glimmering teardrops welling up in those sapphire-bright, shining eyes. He gave a wry, helpless smile on the spot. A moment later, he freed a hand, ruffled Zhou Ruoyu’s head, and then softly said:

“Alright, I’m just kidding… How could I possibly drive to Myanmar? That place is so far, days and nights of driving wouldn’t get us there.”

“Oh… right, you’re right…” Zhou Ruoyu gently pushed Gu Jiachen’s hand away. A moment later, still somewhat nervous, she continued to ask, “Then, where exactly are you taking me?”

“A rabbit meat restaurant.”

For a moment, Zhou Ruoyu genuinely considered jumping out of the car. This wasn’t because the girl had suddenly devised a revenge plan—to jump out, get seriously injured, drag Gu Jiachen down, extort millions from her sworn enemy, or even go for a one-for-one exchange. It was simply because… ‘Mr. Stern CEO, one joke is enough! Can you please give a serious answer just once? Why have I never noticed you had so many humorous cells before?!

The long-haired girl turned her head away in frustration. Gu Jiachen, in turn, felt a surge of amusement and couldn’t help but ask, “What’s wrong? Little rabbit… scared?”

Yes, Zhou Ruoyu was truly scared. She feared that if she couldn’t laugh at Gu Jiachen’s terrible jokes, she might genuinely be dragged off to have her kidneys harvested.

Zhou Ruoyu could only sigh helplessly. Then, finding an excuse, she spoke softly, “I feel very weak… I can’t speak anymore, Mr. Gu. Please let me rest for a while.”

“Ah… alright.”

Somewhat unexpectedly, once Zhou Ruoyu said that, Gu Jiachen truly fell silent, driving quietly. However, the petite long-haired girl hadn’t been lying; she was indeed utterly exhausted, her heart even fluttering nervously. She could only lean quietly against the passenger seat’s backrest, taking a short nap.

A moment later, once the girl with tightly closed eyes had calmed down, Gu Jiachen began to explain softly beside her:

“I’m taking you to buy some things. Phew… let me think. Clothes, shoes, socks, underwear, and sanitary pads. Hmm, there are quite a few other things too… Heh, little rabbit, you truly are… Why do I feel like you have absolutely no common sense? Not wearing a bra is one thing, but you don’t even use sanitary pads. Don’t you know you get your period?”

As soon as Gu Jiachen finished speaking, Zhou Ruoyu, leaning back in the passenger seat, immediately began to tremble violently.

Having so many of her weaknesses exposed, the long-haired girl was in a complete panic. Only one thought surfaced in her mind—

‘Yes… yes, it’s too suspicious. Me… the fact that I’m a boy who transformed into a girl, it won’t be discovered, will it?!

‘Then, considering that Gu Xue had been kept by Gu Jiachen for an unknown period, she might one day disdainfully mention her clueless, resentful ex-boyfriend to her benefactor. What if Gu Jiachen already knew my name, and then a girl with the same name suddenly appeared, acting so suspiciously…

‘Will I be exposed right away—?!’

At the thought of this, the long-haired girl was filled with immense regret. She wished she had used a fake name on her resume when she came. After all, she was an undocumented person now, without any official identity… Even if she passed the interview with her real name, it was useless. It would have been much safer to use a fake name!

‘Tsk… it was all because I rushed when I changed my resume then. Using my real name was just a thoughtless jotting down… a habit.’

Gu Jiachen turned his head, glancing at the little rabbit playing dead in the passenger seat. The girl’s act of feigning sleep was rather clumsy; after all, no one asleep would be trembling nervously all over. What he didn’t know was that the girl was already considering how she would face the successive mockery from Gu Xue and Gu Jiachen once she was exposed.

However, the girl’s worries were, in fact, needless.

Gu Jiachen certainly knew of his adopted daughter’s boyfriend, but he had never known his name, nor would he ever connect him with the adorable girl before him. After all… anyone looking at Zhou Ruoyu now would only see a delicate, gentle, and adorable loli who inspired a strong desire to protect. Even Gu Xue herself probably wouldn’t believe that this was her ex-boyfriend.

What truly made Gu Jiachen suspicious was… was Zhou Ruoyu’s earlier performance real? From an emotional standpoint, Zhou Ruoyu’s reactions seemed incredibly genuine. Her pitifully delicate, frail, and weak appearance made it difficult not to feel pity for her.

But… she was a corporate spy who had volunteered to come to his side for revenge?!

There were simply too many unanswered questions. Gu Jiachen’s shrewdness, developed from years of navigating worldly affairs since childhood, made him refuse to believe that a twenty-two-year-old girl wouldn’t know about menstruation. It was truly baffling, especially since Zhou Ruoyu hadn’t shown any intellectual issues that would hinder communication.

But, what if everything that had just happened was explained as a ploy Zhou Ruoyu had prepared in advance to gain his pity and trust?

Everything suddenly became rational and made sense.

However… if this conjecture were true, then… the price this little rabbit paid would be a bit too steep. Moreover… her acting was truly too good, terrifying to ponder, even sending shivers down his spine. Gu Jiachen even suspected that she might have been playing dumb all along, with an even larger scheme within a scheme waiting for him.

If that were truly the case, then this woman’s cunning was simply terrifying.

Gu Jiachen’s hand on the steering wheel trembled slightly. He took a deep breath. A moment later, he suddenly heard Zhou Ruoyu, whose brain had been in overload for quite some time, finally stammer out a weak explanation…

“What if I said I was… having my first period? Would you believe me?”

“…Isn’t that a bit too late?”

Gu Jiachen’s lips twitched. All the dark thoughts that had surfaced in his mind suddenly dissipated by more than half at this moment… This ridiculous excuse, spoken aloud, was clearly a lie… She might as well not have said anything at all…

‘Could she truly be a naive and clueless girl with no common sense?’

“Uh… well, it’s just… everyone’s constitution is different, you know, ahem…”

The long-haired girl babbled such nonsense, blinking her adorable eyes. After speaking, she immediately regretted why she even bothered to make an excuse; the other party had already stopped asking when she was playing dead. Wuwu…

Gu Jiachen couldn’t help but chuckle. After a long moment, he suddenly stopped the car and then unfastened his seatbelt. “Alright, Miss Zhou, please get out. We’ve arrived.”
