Chapter 119: The Merfolk Queen’s Lament

Roar!

The Deep Sea Demonic Flood Dragon had not anticipated its attack being so easily nullified. It let out a furious roar, its massive tail whipping violently, stirring up towering waves that crashed down once more.

This renewed assault finally jolted the three women from their strange stupor.

‘How utterly reckless,’ a flicker of offended anger crossed Ling Shuangjue’s eyes. She retracted her sword into its sheath, her right hand at last gripping the hilt.

“Abyssal Slaughter Sword,” she murmured softly. “Ascend.”

Clang—!

A sword cry, as if echoing from the deepest reaches of the Nine Netherworld, reverberated through the heavens and earth. The world-ending demonic weapon had finally been unsheathed. A pure, blood-red sword light, impossible to describe with mere words, shot into the sky.

It was a strike of ultimate speed, so swift that even divine sense could not track it.

The crimson light flashed and vanished.

All movements of the previously arrogant Deep Sea Demonic Flood Dragon instantly froze.

The next second, a thin crimson line subtly appeared, starting from its colossal single horn, then rapidly spread across its entire body.

Pfft—

Its enormous body, along with its Divine Soul, was silently and evenly split into two halves before their very eyes, sinking into the pitch-black depths of the sea.

One sword strike.

Yuange watched Ling Shuangjue’s proud, upright figure, sword still in hand. Her throat moved as if to speak, yet she found herself utterly speechless.

Gu Chang’an, meanwhile, gave Ling Shuangjue a profound look, then glanced at Yuange, her gaze incredibly complex.

“What are you staring at?” Ling Shuangjue sheathed her sword and turned around, resuming her languid demeanor. She cast a dismissive glance at Yuange, stating flatly, “Don’t misunderstand. I simply didn’t want the ship to sink. It would be clean if you, a mere little sparrow, died, but your demonic blood would stain my clothes.”

“You…!” Yuange was so incensed she nearly spat blood. Just as she was about to retort, she forcibly swallowed her words.

‘Forget it.’

‘I can’t win an argument with her.’

‘Besides… no matter what, she did save me.’

Yuange turned her head, letting out an extremely awkward, single-syllable grunt from her nose as a response.

The Wave-Breaking Skiff continued forward.

The sea fog ahead also seemed to have thinned slightly.

The Deep Sea Demonic Flood Dragon’s mountain-like corpse, cleanly bisected, silently sank into the ink-black abyss.

Yuange stood frozen, her amber pupils still trembling slightly. She could feel Gu Chang’an’s cool gaze, tinged with a third of inquiry and seven-tenths complexity, attempting to dissect her demonic soul and see through her.

Beside her, the lingering cool scent of winter plum and blood from Ling Shuangjue still subtly wafted at her nostrils, grating against her taut nerves.

Saved by a love rival, and then by another love rival—this tangled web of relationships was as messy as a ball of yarn played with by a cat for three days; utterly impossible to untangle.

“Hmph.”

Ling Shuangjue lifted her chin, striking a haughty pose that screamed, ‘This princess doesn’t care.’ “Hey, crazy woman, thanks for earlier. But don’t overthink it; I just don’t want to owe you a favor!”

Ling Shuangjue, leaning lazily against the railing, didn’t even bother to lift an eyelid at the remark. The words that parted her red lips were, as always, enough to choke someone to death.

“Oh? You were so noisy just now, this Venerable One thought you wanted to offer yourself to me. What a pity, this Venerable One isn’t interested.”

“You—!” Yuange nearly choked, the sliver of awkward gratitude she had just accumulated instantly dissolving into thin air. Enraged, she wished she could pounce and bite this foul-mouthed woman to death.

“Enough.”

Gu Chang’an’s cool voice broke through. She sheathed her Frostbright Sword, her gaze sweeping back and forth between Ling Shuangjue and Yuange.

Ultimately, she said nothing, merely injecting a more refined and potent stream of True Essence into her defensive array, causing the azure light barrier to solidify further.

Her actions spoke volumes.

This ship could not sink; Shen Zhaoqing had not yet been rescued.

‘Wait, something is wrong.’

Yuange’s demonic eyes flickered with vigilant golden light. She could sense an ancient, sorrowful, and endlessly resentful consciousness awakening beneath the water’s surface.

Immediately after, a song echoed without warning deep within everyone’s Divine Souls. It was not a sound heard through the ears.

It was ethereal, seemingly from eons past, yet simultaneously singing within their very hearts.

The song was poignant and beautiful, as if narrating a tragedy forgotten for a thousand years: a lover’s betrayal, the blood of kin, the ruin of a homeland, and a curse of eternal unrest.

The emotions contained within that song were too vast, too heavy, capable of instantly dragging any cultivator with a flawed Dao heart into an abyss of eternal damnation.

At the edge of the Eye of Gui Xu, deep within the Eastern Sea abyss, a figure slowly opened her eyes from a throne constructed of sacred crystals and sunken dragon bones.

She possessed deep blue hair, like seaweed, drifting dreamily in the dim seawater. Her pearlescent skin was covered in fine, pale blue scales, and translucent fins behind her ears gently fanned, stirring the still currents around her.

She was Lan Xi, the Merfolk Queen.

She had felt it.

Three powerful yet pure forces, filled with the nauseating aura of human cultivators, had intruded upon her forbidden domain. Especially one of them, that pristine True Essence sword energy…

It was exactly like the hypocritical Penglai cultivators who, a thousand years ago, had trampled upon the corpses of her kin, shouting, ‘Acting on behalf of heaven.’

“Penglai…” Lan Xi’s lips uttered two icy words. In her deep, melancholic blue vertical pupils, a hatred capable of freezing the entire ocean ignited.

“It’s you again…

Is it you again, coming to plunder my home and disturb the slumber of my people?

Do you think that by killing that foolish flood dragon, you can run rampant in this Queen’s territory? How naive.”

Lan Xi slowly rose from her throne, her slender, powerful black fishtail gently swaying in the water. She parted her lips, revealing a mouthful of fine, sharp teeth.

Ancient and sorrowful syllables surged from her throat, transforming into an invisible curse that pierced through the obstruction of ten thousand fathoms of deep sea.

“Sea Continent Soul Suppressing Song.”

‘Since you have come, then let your Divine Souls serve as burial offerings for my deceased kin…’

On the Wave-Breaking Skiff.

The first to show an anomaly was Gu Chang’an.

The scene before her began to distort. The cold ship railing vanished, replaced by the towering Altar of Heaven, high in the clouds, of the Penglai Immortal Palace.

She saw it; she saw the person she had sworn to protect with her life.

Shen Zhaoqing was bound by countless chains inscribed with runes, suspended above the massive, ancient Longevity Cauldron. Her face was ashen, her eyes tightly shut, her breath so faint it seemed it could extinguish at any moment.

Holy Master Yaoguang, a compassionate smile gracing her benevolent face, was manipulating hand seals, urging the roaring flames beneath the cauldron.

“No—!”

Gu Chang’an tried to rush forward, but found herself utterly imprisoned by an invisible wall. She could only watch, helpless, as Shen Zhaoqing’s body was slowly consumed by the fire, transforming into the purest essence of life Dao principles, merging into the Dan Cauldron.

“Junior Sister, don’t… Zhaoqing… Shen Zhaoqing!”

She roared frantically, the sword energy within her body surging with unprecedented violence. Her Supreme Forgetfulness Sword Heart shattered piece by piece at that very moment.

“Pfft—!”

A mouthful of fresh blood spurted from Gu Chang’an’s lips. The True Essence barrier enveloping the Wave-Breaking Skiff flickered wildly with the collapse of her Dao heart, becoming erratic and seeming as if it would shatter at any moment!
