Chapter 120: Side Story 16 – When “Don’t Contact Me Again” Hurts Most

Lu Zijin spent the entire afternoon feeling unsettled because of Wei Lan’s livestream.

The documents on her desk hadn’t even been turned a page.

She had spent the afternoon fighting with the fans in the livestream comments.

By the end, even the other fans in the livestream had figured it out — this wealthy sister was a hardcore solo fan of Wei Lan’s, and she would go ballistic at anyone who called Wei Lan “wife.”

At six in the evening, Wei Lan’s livestream finally ended.

Lu Zijin rubbed her temples, looked at the documents on her desk, and sighed.

She hadn’t gotten a single productive thing done in the afternoon, so she had to stay and work overtime.

But whenever she looked at the documents, she kept thinking about Wei Lan.

In the end, she had to focus as hard as she could to get through all the paperwork.

By the time she returned to the villa, it was already past nine at night.

After getting home and taking a shower, Lu Zijin lay on the bed and took out her phone.

She wanted to call Wei Lan, but she was afraid of being rejected again.

Still, thinking about how Wei Lan and Xiao Nanyan had been chatting and laughing together that afternoon, and how the people in the comments kept calling Wei Lan “wife” — Lu Zijin felt as if needles were pricking her chest, the pain so intense it left her almost numb.

Finally, she still dialed Wei Lan’s number.

But from the receiver came:

“The number you have dialed is not answering.

Please try again later…”

Lu Zijin called again, but still no answer.

She realized with a shock that she might have been blocked by Wei Lan.

Lu Zijin stared at her phone in disbelief, her eyes reddening slightly.

Did her little dog hate her this much?

She wouldn’t even answer her calls.

She took a deep breath and called Wei Lan using her spare phone number.

This time, there was no “unanswered” message, but Lu Zijin’s heart only felt colder.

She really had been blocked by her little dog.

A few seconds later, Lu Zijin heard the other side pick up.

There was some background noise wherever Wei Lan was.

“Hello?”

Wei Lan’s voice reached Lu Zijin’s ears.

Lu Zijin felt her throat go dry.

She opened her mouth, but nothing came out.

“Hello?

Anyone there?”

Wei Lan’s voice came again.

Wei Lan and Xiao Nanyan had finished their livestream a little after six, but they hadn’t rested after coming off air.

They had the team sort through inventory and so on — anyway, by the time they finished, it was past eight.

That afternoon, Wei Lan and Xiao Nanyan had sold eighty million yuan worth of goods.

And that was on a weekday afternoon — on a weekend, sales would definitely break a hundred million.

After work, Xiao Nanyan suggested they go eat crayfish together.

Wei Lan had nothing else to do anyway, so she went along with Xiao Nanyan.

Right now, everyone on their team was sitting together eating spicy crayfish and drinking beer.

Wei Lan said “hello” a few times, but when no one answered, she assumed it was a spam call.

Xiao Nanyan was sitting next to her and asked, “Who is it?”

Wei Lan shook her head.

“I don’t know.

Probably a spam call.”

With that, Wei Lan was about to hang up, when she heard the words “wait a moment” come from the receiver — and the voice seemed to carry a hint of tears.

Lu Zijin was gripping her phone tightly with her right hand, tears falling from her eyes without her even realizing it.

“Wei Lan, who was that woman just now?

Was it Xiao Nanyan?”

Wei Lan immediately recognized Lu Zijin’s voice.

Her smile faded.

She said, “That has nothing to do with you.

I’ve already saved up enough to pay you back.

Once the company transfers the money to me, I’ll send it directly to the previous account.

Don’t contact me again.”

Then she hung up.

She took a few deep breaths, picked up her cup, and chugged several gulps of beer.

Xiao Nanyan, wearing an amused, gossipy expression, asked with a smile, “What’s wrong?

An ex-girlfriend calling?”

Wei Lan smiled bitterly and shook her head.

What ex-girlfriend?

In Lu Zijin’s heart, she was probably only ever a plaything.

“No.

Forget her.

Let’s talk about something else.”

Wei Lan didn’t want to talk about Lu Zijin.

For the past few weeks, she had been busy enough — so busy that aside from classes and meals, she spent all her remaining time working.

She thought that was good — at least this way, she didn’t have time to miss Lu Zijin.

“Alright, forget her.

You should make a few million from this round.

I’ll have our company’s finance department do a proper accounting later.

Of course, with such a large volume, there will still be a fair number of returns.”

Xiao Nanyan said.

“Yeah, no rush.”

Wei Lan took another sip of cold beer, then went back to peeling crayfish.

The numbing, spicy crayfish stimulated her taste buds and helped her temporarily forget about Lu Zijin.

Xiao Nanyan also ate a piece of crayfish, then continued, “I need a favor.

Once it’s done, I’ll treat you to a meal.”

“What favor?”

Wei Lan asked with a smile.

Xiao Nanyan was straightforward as a person — Wei Lan didn’t really think of her as her boss, but rather as a friend.

“There’s a charity gala in Panyang City in a couple of days.

I need a female companion to help fend off unwanted attention.”

Xiao Nanyan sighed.

The alphas she normally knew were all idle rich kids with no ambition — she couldn’t stand any of them.

So every time she went to these events, she brought her assistant instead.

But her assistant was an omega, so there were still plenty of alphas who would come up to her and try to get friendly.

She was genuinely tired of these alphas with no sense of boundaries.

Bringing Wei Lan this time would hopefully make all those people back off a bit.

“Sure.

I want hotpot, though.”

Xiao Nanyan had plenty of money — Wei Lan felt no burden at all about making her pay.

“No problem.

If you’re free tomorrow evening, I’ll pick you up for hotpot.”

Hearing that Wei Lan had agreed, Xiao Nanyan’s mood improved even more.

In the end, the group didn’t break up until after ten at night.

Wei Lan, for once, no longer had to worry about money.

She took a taxi back to her place.

She had drunk two beers, and after showering, she was tired enough to want to rest.

Right before going to sleep, Wei Lan picked up her phone and opened her contacts.

She blocked the new number Lu Zijin had just used as well.

After doing that, she lay down.

On Lu Zijin’s side, she still hadn’t slept.

Her heart was in turmoil.

Her little dog had told her not to come looking again, insisted on paying her back, and — most importantly — her little dog had other girls around her.

She didn’t know who that girl was, or whether she might be interested in her little dog.

Just thinking about it made Lu Zijin’s eyes redden with bitterness.

She remembered how Wei Lan looked when they kissed — always soft and delicate, her eyes reddening if kissed too hard.

The thought that Wei Lan might look like that with someone else — being sweet and soft, pinned down and kissed by someone else — made her feel as if her heart were being sliced apart.

Her little dog belonged to her alone — how could she be with someone else?

Thinking this, Lu Zijin curled up in bed and cried quietly.

She couldn’t bear the thought of Wei Lan liking someone else, being soft and sweet while someone else held her down and kissed her.

Just thinking about it made her chest twist with pain.

She knew she was wrong.

If her little dog would just come back, she could be her girlfriend.

She would give her all the security she needed.

So why wouldn’t she talk to her now?

Lu Zijin thought about it and called Wei Lan again using her spare number.

But the receiver only said, “The number you have dialed is not answering…”

She clutched the blanket tightly.

The mere thought that her little dog had other girls around her made her heart ache unbearably.

Lu Zijin cried for a while, but still couldn’t fall asleep.

Her head was very dizzy, and her stomach was uncomfortable too.

She hadn’t been eating well for weeks.

She got up and went to the bar on the second floor.

Without even looking at what kind of wine it was, she grabbed a bottle, poured a full large glass, and downed it.

The astringent, bitter taste of the red wine nearly made her gag, but she endured the discomfort and swallowed.

After drinking that large glass, she was already feeling a little buzzed.

She poured herself another large glass, didn’t eat anything with it, and downed that one too.

Her head was spinning, and her stomach was churning.

She didn’t know whether it was her head that hurt, or her heart, or her stomach.

Overwhelmed with pain, she lay on the bar counter and sobbed.

“Wei Lan… you, you can’t date anyone else.

You’re mine.

You’re clearly mine.”

She murmured as her tears fell in drops.

Feeling that she wasn’t drunk enough, she picked up the glass again and poured herself a large glass.

She ignored her stomach pain and drank it down.

The numbing effect of the alcohol would let her forget her troubles for a short while.

But within a few minutes, large beads of sweat rolled down Lu Zijin’s forehead.

Her stomach was in terrible cramping pain.

She hadn’t eaten dinner, and had only taken a few bites of lunch.

To be precise, she hadn’t eaten properly for two weeks — she simply had no appetite.

Her head was spinning, and her stomach burned with pain, but she was too drunk to get up from the bar counter.

If Zhang Ma hadn’t come out to get some water and noticed that the light on the second-floor bar was still on, and gone up to turn it off, no one would have found Lu Zijin in time.

When Zhang Ma saw the open wine bottle and Lu Zijin lying on the bar counter in apparent agony, she hurried over.

“CEO Lu?

What’s wrong?”

“Hurts.

Stomach hurts.

Head hurts.”

Lu Zijin murmured.

Zhang Ma was terrified and immediately called the private physician.

Dr. Lin arrived in about ten minutes.

Seeing Lu Zijin in this state, she frowned immediately.

She first fed Lu Zijin some hangover remedy, then prepared medicine for stomach issues and put Lu Zijin on an IV.

They worked until late into the night before Lu Zijin’s condition improved somewhat.

She also sobered up.

She opened her eyes and looked weakly at the two people in the room.

“Why are you here?”

As soon as she spoke, she still felt some discomfort in her stomach.

Dr. Lin said, “If I hadn’t come, you might have died tonight.

Drinking that much on an empty stomach — do you have a death wish?

If you keep this up, your body won’t be able to take it.”

Lu Zijin pressed her lips together and didn’t speak.

She felt that having her body hurt was actually a little easier to bear.

The real pain was when she thought about Wei Lan.

Sure enough, within moments, her eyes reddened.

Dr. Lin found it remarkable.

Lu Zijin was usually quite protective of her health — how had she ended up like this?

She had never seen Lu Zijin so devastated before.

In her impression, Lu Zijin was always calm and restrained — almost unrecognizable compared to the person she was now.

She sighed and continued, “I don’t know what happened to you, but nothing is more important than your health.

If you lose that, you won’t be able to do anything.”

The expression on Lu Zijin’s face softened slightly.

That was right.

Now that her little dog had someone else around her, she couldn’t afford to give up — she had to get healthy even faster, so she could go find Wei Lan and get her forgiveness sooner.

If she kept up this miserable state, her little dog might really end up with someone else.

No — she would never allow her little dog to go with someone else.

“I understand.

Are there any restrictions I need to follow these next few days?”

Lu Zijin asked quickly.

Seeing that she was listening, Dr. Lin said, “Eat light.

Rest for a couple of days and your stomach should be mostly fine.

Remember to eat on time.

Don’t torture yourself anymore.”

“Okay.”

Lu Zijin nodded.

She closed her eyes and wanted to rest for a while, but she thought of Wei Lan again.

She remembered lying on the bed with Wei Lan — herself resting in Wei Lan’s arms.

Back then, she hadn’t thought much of it.

Having Wei Lan hold her had just felt ordinary, because Wei Lan liked her and naturally indulged her.

But now, Wei Lan had taken back that indulgence — she had even blocked her contact information.

Lu Zijin closed her eyes and thought that this was exactly what she deserved.

Who told her to say such hurtful things?

Of course Wei Lan was angry.

In the next few days, she had to think carefully about how to make Wei Lan less repulsed by her.

Otherwise, if this continued, her little dog would truly drift further and further away from her.
