Chapter 123: Side Story 19 – Don’t Leave Me Tonight

Hearing Wei Lan say she wouldn’t leave, Lu Zijin felt a little relieved.

She slowly released her hand that had been holding Wei Lan’s, but her gaze remained on Wei Lan.

Wei Lan bent down to get the first-aid kit from the table, opened it, and took out iodine and cotton swabs.

She crouched down beside Lu Zijin, dipped the cotton swab in iodine, and carefully disinfected the wound on Lu Zijin’s right knee.

Wei Lan used very gentle pressure, blowing softly on the wound as she cleaned it, afraid of hurting Lu Zijin.

Lu Zijin sniffled.

Her eyelashes still held teardrops, but all her attention was on Wei Lan.

She knew Wei Lan still cared about her — she was helping her with her wound.

Thinking this, Lu Zijin’s lips curved upward slightly.

But unfortunately, her stomach was still cramping in waves.

Lu Zijin unconsciously pressed her hand to her stomach.

Beads of sweat dripped from her forehead, and her face was deathly pale.

After applying medicine to the scraped area with a cotton swab, Wei Lan looked up and saw Lu Zijin’s pale complexion.

She quickly asked, “What’s wrong?

Why do you look so terrible?”

Lu Zijin clutched her stomach and looked at Wei Lan with tearful eyes.

“My stomach hurts so much.”

“Alright, don’t worry.

I’ll take you to the hospital right away.”

Wei Lan said as she hurriedly helped Lu Zijin up.

Lu Zijin leaned against her, gently tugging at Wei Lan’s wrist.

“It’s not convenient to go to the hospital dressed like this.

Could you take me back to the villa instead?

I’ll have Dr. Lin come over.”

Wei Lan pressed her lips together.

She didn’t really want to go.

She had said she wanted to cut ties with Lu Zijin — what was this now?

But seeing Lu Zijin’s pale face, she couldn’t be cruel.

She nodded.

“Alright.

Is Zhou Xiao here?”

“Waiting at the hotel entrance.”

Lu Zijin replied through gritted teeth, her stomach hurting so much she could barely speak.

Wei Lan quickly helped Lu Zijin toward the hotel exit, half-carrying her.

Lu Zijin’s body was very hot.

Wei Lan anxiously supported her as they walked out the main door.

About ten minutes later, she finally got Lu Zijin into the car.

After getting in, Lu Zijin’s face was still deathly pale.

Wei Lan let her lean against her shoulder and asked, “Where’s your phone?

Let me call Dr. Lin.”

Lu Zijin rested her head on Wei Lan’s shoulder, leaned closer to Wei Lan’s neck, and sniffed — not her pheromones, but she still smelled good.

Lu Zijin unlocked her phone and handed it over.

Wei Lan wrapped one arm around Lu Zijin’s waist to keep her from slumping over, and with the other hand, she took the phone.

She opened the contacts with one hand, found Dr. Lin’s number, and pressed call.

“Dr. Lin, her stomach is bothering her.

We’re heading back to the villa now.”

“How did her stomach start hurting again?

She just recovered from gastroenteritis a few days ago.

I gave her warnings for nothing.

Fine, I’ll come over now.”

Dr. Lin grumbled a few times, then hung up and prepared to go to Lu Zijin’s villa.

Wei Lan put Lu Zijin’s phone down and took out her own.

Still keeping one arm around Lu Zijin, she texted Xiao Nanyan on WeChat.

[Wei Lan: I have to leave early.

I ran into a friend with a stomach issue.

I’m taking her home.

I’ll bring the dress back to the company tomorrow.]

[Xiao Nanyan: A friend?

What friend?

Don’t tell me it’s Lu Zijin!]

[Wei Lan: Never mind.

You enjoy the auction.]

After sending a few messages, Wei Lan looked up and saw Lu Zijin leaning against her, gazing at her with tearful eyes.

She quickly asked, “What’s wrong?

Does it still hurt a lot?”

Lu Zijin sniffled.

“Yeah.

It comes in waves — cramping pain.”

Seeing her like this, Wei Lan’s heart ached a little.

She remembered what Dr. Lin had just said and asked, “Dr. Lin said your stomach is hurting again.

Did you have stomach problems before?”

“Mm.

That day I wanted to go to Panyang University to see you, but I saw you with Xiao Nanyan.

After I got back, I drank a lot of wine.

If Zhang Ma hadn’t found me feeling unwell, I might have been in real danger.

Then I had a recurring high fever for several days.

I only just got better recently.”

Lu Zijin said pitifully, still breaking out in a cold sweat.

Wei Lan’s brow furrowed.

“Your gastroenteritis had just healed.

Why did you drink so much?”

“Seeing you standing next to her made my heart ache.

You’ve never even attended a gala with me.”

Lu Zijin nuzzled against Wei Lan’s shoulder as she spoke.

“I missed you so much.”

Wei Lan pressed her lips together.

After a long moment, she finally said, “Don’t drink so much anymore.

It’s bad for your health.”

“Then will you come back and live with me?

I’ll listen to everything you say.

If you’re worried, we can go get our marriage certificate tomorrow morning, okay?”

Lu Zijin was terrified her little one would run away again.

If getting a certificate would put her little one at ease, then she’d do it.

“Don’t talk nonsense.”

Wei Lan’s ears turned slightly red.

Who got married that hastily?

“I’m serious.

I know I hurt you with what I said before.

I’m sorry.

I really know I was wrong.

Can we please make up?”

Lu Zijin’s voice was weak.

She gently shook Wei Lan’s wrist, her eyes full of pleading.

Wei Lan changed the subject.

“Let’s not talk about that now.

Close your eyes and rest for a while.”

She saw how pale Lu Zijin was and didn’t want her to talk too much.

Lu Zijin looked at Wei Lan, sniffled pitifully, and finally obediently closed her eyes.

Wei Lan’s eyes curved.

She reached for a few tissues and gently wiped the tears from Lu Zijin’s face.

Twenty minutes later, Zhou Xiao parked the car at the villa entrance.

Wei Lan gently patted Lu Zijin’s side.

“We’re here.

Let’s go inside first, then you can sleep.”

Lu Zijin opened her eyes and nuzzled against Wei Lan’s chest.

“Mm.

You’ll come in with me, right?”

She was terrified that Wei Lan would leave.

Lu Zijin even thought that if it meant keeping Wei Lan here, she could endure the stomach pain a little longer.

“Alright.

Lean on me.

Walk slowly.”

Wei Lan wrapped an arm around Lu Zijin and walked toward the villa.

Zhang Ma was surprised to see Wei Lan.

“Miss Wei?

You’re here?”

Then she looked at Lu Zijin’s pale face.

“CEO Lu, what happened to you?”

“It’s probably gastroenteritis again.

I’ll help her to her room first.

Dr. Lin should be here soon.”

Wei Lan said.

“Oh, alright.

Alright.”

Wei Lan helped Lu Zijin up to the second-floor bedroom.

The main problem was that she was wearing high heels — otherwise, she could have just carried Lu Zijin upstairs.

Once they were in the bedroom, Lu Zijin found the gown uncomfortable and wanted to change.

“You should change clothes too, and your shoes.

Wearing those isn’t comfortable.”

Lu Zijin said, clutching her stomach.

“Alright.

Let me get the clothes.

Sit down and rest first.”

Wei Lan opened the wardrobe and took out a nightgown.

She looked inside the wardrobe — on the right side hung the clothes she had sent back via same-day courier.

She thought for a moment, then took them out.

After all, this gown and shoes were very expensive — the gown even had diamonds on it — and she needed to return them to Xiao Nanyan.

Wei Lan brought the nightgown over to Lu Zijin and asked, “Do you have shoes I can wear?

Consider this outfit and shoes as sold to me.

I’ll pay you back in a few days along with the rest of the money.”

Lu Zijin looked at Wei Lan with red eyes.

“Do you have to draw such a clear line with me?”

Wei Lan didn’t answer her.

“If not, that’s fine.

I’ll just change when I get home later.”

“Fine.

But don’t leave.

My stomach really hurts.

Can you stay with me a little longer?”

Lu Zijin looked like she was about to cry, tears spinning in her eyes — as if the moment Wei Lan refused, she would burst into tears.

“Alright.

I won’t leave.

Let me go change first.”

Wei Lan went into the bathroom and changed into different clothes, also changing into a pair of white shoes.

She neatly folded the gown and put it in a bag.

She did the same with the heels, finding a bag for them.

When Wei Lan came out after cleaning up, she saw Lu Zijin still sitting on the edge of the bed, still not changed.

“Why haven’t you put on the nightgown?”

Wei Lan walked over and asked.

Lu Zijin wrapped her arms around Wei Lan’s waist, her red-rimmed eyes fixed on Wei Lan.

“I don’t have the strength.

My stomach hurts so much.”

“Should I help you?”

Wei Lan asked quietly, though she wasn’t sure if it was appropriate.

“Mm.”

Lu Zijin immediately hugged her tighter, burying her face against Wei Lan’s chest.

Even though her stomach was killing her, she still curled her lips in a small, happy smile.

Wei Lan had no choice but to first help Lu Zijin unzip the back of the gown, then put her arm around Lu Zijin to help her stand.

“I’m going to lift the dress up.

Raise your arms a little.”

Wei Lan pressed her lips together and said.

“Okay.”

Lu Zijin obediently straightened her arms, though her stomach was still hurting badly.

Wei Lan was already sweating by now.

She decided to get it over with in one go.

She reached down, grabbed the hem of the dress, and pulled it up.

Lu Zijin cooperated with her.

After several tugs, Wei Lan finally managed to pull the gown off.

But once the gown was off, Wei Lan’s face flushed bright red.

All Lu Zijin had on were breast pads — nothing else.

She quickly looked away, grabbed the nightgown from the bed, and hastily pulled it over Lu Zijin’s head.

“Put your arms through.

Let me help you get dressed.”

Wei Lan urged, her ears and cheeks burning red.

Lu Zijin reluctantly extended her arms.

She had wanted her little one to look at her a little longer — she was quite confident in her figure.

If her stomach weren’t hurting so much, she would have already thrown herself into Wei Lan’s arms.

Wei Lan, face red, quickly pulled the nightgown down, then helped Lu Zijin lie on the bed and covered her with a blanket to rest.

Just then, Dr. Lin arrived.

She walked over with practiced ease, examined Lu Zijin, and then started preparing the IV supplies.

“I told you not to drink.

Do you want to die or not?”

Lu Zijin looked pitifully at Wei Lan, her eyes red, wanting Wei Lan to hold her hand.

Wei Lan sighed, stepped forward, and advised, “Don’t drink any alcohol for a while.

You need to take care of your body.”

“Okay.

If you tell me not to, then I won’t.”

Lu Zijin managed a smile at her despite the pain.

Dr. Lin made a soft sound.

So her own advice was useless, but a girlfriend’s advice worked immediately.

She had never realized before that their CEO Lu had such a lovesick streak.

Lu Zijin held tightly onto Wei Lan’s hand, not letting go.

She didn’t want Wei Lan to leave.

“It’s so late already.

Otherwise, could you stay here with me tonight?”

Wei Lan shook her head.

“No, I have things to do tomorrow morning.”

Seeing that Lu Zijin’s eyes were wet again, as if she were about to cry, she quickly added, “I’ll wait until your IV is done before I leave.

No rush.”

Even though Lu Zijin didn’t want her to go, having Wei Lan stay with her for a while already made her very happy.

If she pushed her luck any further, her little one might just ignore her altogether.

“Alright then.”

Lu Zijin said, still staring intently at Wei Lan.
