Join the ServerUpon waking, Alice found herself in a pitch-black place… To be honest, she was terrified.
“Hey? Awake? A bit dark, huh? Sorry, I just prefer this kind of environment… Let me brighten it up for you.”
A familiar voice came from beside her. Then warm sunlight streamed in through the window. Alice squinted, her eyes adjusting, and she finally understood her situation.
“I… I’m in…”
“Sorry about that. When I saw you earlier, you were just too scared. To avoid any trouble, I just brought you here directly. This way it’s simpler, don’t you think?”
How to put it… That sounded like something an idiot would say…
“Y-Yagesi, why exactly did you bring me here…” Alice asked timidly.
But the answer she got shocked her. The youth across from her, Yagesi, instantly brightened up. His expression was filled with the glee of a child who had just spotted a new toy.
“Well, to be honest, my main target is Liya…”
Then Yagesi poured everything out to Alice: his infatuation with Liya from the moment he saw her, the preparations he had made to make Liya fall for him, and his thoughts and plans. Finally, to project the image of a calm and intellectual gentleman, he pressed his palms together and said earnestly:
“So, I hope you can help me! Miss Alice!”
“…”
As for Alice, she had been frozen in stunned silence halfway through Yagesi’s speech. Her face was a mess of confusion and disbelief. She remained that way for a full three minutes, only snapping out of it when Yagesi waved a finger in front of her.
“Huh?!”
But once she came to, Alice was hit with even greater alarm.
“This is your plan?!”
“Of course. Though there are many misunderstandings about me, I am actually a calm and intellectual person. Now that you’ve seen my meticulous plan, you should understand, right?”
“Oh… I see…”
Somewhere along the way, Alice’s tension had completely dissipated. Actually, it was only natural—when you hear an idiot proudly displaying his idiotic theories, no matter how powerful that idiot is, the tension just melts away.
How to put it—a sense of intellectual superiority bubbled up… Ah?!
Alice shook her head violently, forcing all the chaotic thoughts out of her mind. Then she steadied herself and looked at Yagesi again.
“Um… Mr. Yagesi, since you brought me here, did you inform Liya?”
“…Ah?”
The reply was unexpected, yet in a way, exactly what she had anticipated.
“I mean, since you wanted to bring me and Liya together… well, yes, if you wanted Liya to come rushing over because you took me, then did you tell her? If you don’t inform her that I’m gone, how would she know where I am?”
“…Ah.”
Yagesi’s face instantly paled. This time, his tone was filled with epiphany.
“Also, speaking of which, Yagesi, don’t you think your series of actions is essentially no different from what is commonly called ‘kidnapping’?”
“Is that so?”
This time, his reply was without hesitation. But in a way, that made it worse.
“Exactly! You brought me here. Liya will definitely be worried when she can’t find me. She’ll search everywhere and think I’ve been kidnapped. I don’t know exactly where this is, but we haven’t left the academy, right?”
“Of course. Any farther would be too troublesome.”
“So Liya will eventually come knocking. And if she mistakes you for a kidnapper…”
“What then? Fight me?”
Yagesi tilted his head in confusion, but soon comprehension dawned in his eyes. Alice was taken aback and felt a wave of panic.
“No! That’s not it. Sh-she might think you’re a kidnapper, but I believe Liya…”
“Knowing her personality, she’ll definitely fight me! Right?!”
“…” Alice couldn’t deny it.
“Exactly! That’s it! So in the end, Liya will come, we’ll fight, and I’ll win. That way, I can show off my masculine strength and make her feel safe! Perfect! I thought I had failed, but it turns out it’s still a good outcome!”
Yagesi grabbed Alice’s hand excitedly and said:
“Thanks to you! As expected of my wingman! I’m so moved, Alice!”
“Ah…”
Alice involuntarily stepped back, feeling a premonition that things were heading in a terrible direction. She decided to try to salvage the situation.
“W-well! Has Yagesi never considered the possibility of losing? You’ve seen her—Liya is really strong!”
“…Ah? Lose?”
In an instant, the atmosphere around Yagesi shifted. Even though sunlight bathed them both, Alice felt as if she were standing in a cold wind, a profound fear sprouting in her heart.
“How could that be? Don’t joke around, Alice.”
Staring into those deep green pupils, Alice gained a new understanding of Yagesi’s terror. And right after that…
“Hm?”
Suddenly, Yagesi looked up at the ceiling, as if he had noticed something unusual—like he could see something.
“W-what’s wrong…”
“Nothing, just something that caught my attention. I don’t know what it is, but I’ll try roaring at it.”
As soon as he said that, Yagesi opened his mouth. The next second, a high-pitched roar burst forth, accompanied by a shockwave that shot straight toward the ceiling, stirring up dust along the way.
“Well, that should do it. I had a feeling I was being watched. Don’t let my appearance fool you—my instincts are rarely wrong.”
Lowering his head, Yagesi once again showed a smile—a smug, idiotic grin, as if the terrifying aura from before had never existed…
“Hehe.”
“Mm…”
After that, Yagesi and Alice fell into a period of silence. Yagesi, in no hurry at all, found an old crate and sat on it, eyes closed and a smile on his lips, lost in thought. Alice looked around, sneaking glances at Yagesi.
Honestly, just as Yagesi described himself, a normal person’s first impression of him would definitely be that of a gentleman—handsome face, calm demeanor, nothing to dislike. She had been so scared and flustered earlier because she had heard the rumors about him.
The real Yagesi, as she had just witnessed, was a rather naive idiot…
But that wasn’t all there was to Yagesi.
After what she had just seen, Alice was certain in her heart.
Yagesi’s inner self might indeed share some similarities with his epithet, ‘The Beast.’ Those eyes she had just seen—those deep green glowing eyes… She had seen them before.
They weren’t the eyes of a demon, nor of a human or an elf.
They were far more wild, more cruel, more ruthless—
—the eyes of a wolf.
Boom!!!!!!
The earth-shaking roar shattered Alice’s thoughts. Before she could react, a girl’s voice came from the warehouse entrance. Though it was a cute, childlike voice, it carried an incredible fury, reminiscent of an angry deity.
“Alice!!!!”
It was Liya, in a rage. The moment she burst into the warehouse, the first words she shouted were filled with anger, urgency, and tension.
Alice felt her eyes sting. Maybe some dust had gotten in.
