Chapter 26: A Strategy for Love

After dinner, back in his dormitory, Yagesi buried himself in the sofa, lost in thought.

Unlike most students, as one of the Twelve Knights, he had a single room. Given his fearsome reputation, no one dared to share a dorm with him anyway.

He pulled the precious book he’d borrowed from the library from his pocket and began his research:

“So, to date a girl, you first have to court her, make her think you’re romantic, and then cultivate feelings with her. Slow and steady wins the race. In the end, true love will prevail. I’ll start from the very beginning. As for romance… send flowers? Sing love songs? Write love letters? Or just go straight for it… Ah, the last one probably won’t work. The book says you have to be romantic. You can’t make the woman averse.”

After ten minutes of intense study, Yagesi reached a conclusion.

“I see. Now I understand.”

What is romance, after all, but making the woman fall into the same state of heat as himself? If both parties were in heat, everything else would fall into place like clockwork. It seemed he wasn’t far from the realm of the ultimate Casanova described in the book.

Then the problem became simple: how to make Liya fall into heat like him?

Yagesi continued flipping through the book. As the saying goes, in books you find treasures of gold and jade. At times like this, consulting the book was definitely the right move. With this thought, Yagesi spent the next four hours completely absorbed in the pilfered library book, “The Casanova’s Guide to Seduction.”

“Mmm, to make a woman fall into heat like a man, that is, to make her fall for a man, the necessary factors are—no factors at all?!”

Yagesi leaped from the sofa, staring wide-eyed at his precious tome. According to it:

“Every woman has her own romantic triggers and sweet spots. Only under the right environment, conditions, and person can her heart be stirred. So the answers are infinite. Some like tall men, others are into dwarves… Of course, there are commonalities…?!”

Finally, something important. Yagesi continued reading:

“The so-called commonality is the romance in every woman’s heart. Every girl has dreamed of a hero saving a beauty. In their subconscious, they are the most beautiful women, and beautiful women are destined for calamity. So their dream lover must possess powerful strength, capable of rescuing them from crisis… Simply put, a woman’s ideal lover must give her a sense of security.”

Snap! He closed the book, a gleam of knowledge shining on his face.

“I understand. So that’s it.”

Give a sense of security, possess powerful strength. I see, I see. That makes it easy. Based on my meticulous reasoning, to date Liya, I must first make Liya like me. To do that, I need to show myself as a man who can provide security, and security requires strength. In other words, I need to let Liya see my strength—that means…

“As long as I prove I can fight better, there’s no problem!”

If I prove I’m stronger than Liya, she’ll feel secure and fall obediently at my feet. Yeah, that’s it!

“What’s the big deal? Since it’s something I’ve never done before, I thought it might be a bit hard. But it’s just the same as what I’ve always done. Too easy.”

Yagesi licked his lips, his blood stirring with restlessness.

He wanted to go find Liya immediately and have a beautiful fight to victory. Then he could follow his heat and engage in all sorts of indescribable activities. But out of respect for the author who had enlightened him, Yagesi hesitated for a moment and sat back on the sofa, deciding to finish the book before going after Liya.

The book truly was the ultimate guide to love. It introduced many methods to pursue girls, but in Yagesi’s view, none were as good as his own reasoning. Why make things so complicated when a single fight could solve everything? However, his opinion soon changed:

“This is… in rare cases, the girl you fancy might have absolutely no interest in you. No matter how persistent you are, it’s useless… At such times, you need to take the ‘best friend route.’ Find her close friend and gain their assistance. With a wingman from the inner circle, the success rate of your conquest will absolutely skyrocket. This is the author’s heartfelt advice…?!”

Yagesi understood again.

“That makes sense…”

Although Yagesi had always considered himself one of the more intellectual and rational demonfolk of the [Beast] clan, and maintained a gentlemanly image outwardly, for some reason, people always said he was like a wild animal… A total slander! But when pursuing Liya, he had to consider this possibility. Liya might be just like everyone else, holding no favorable opinion of him.

“Alright! That’s settled!”

If he directly challenged Liya and defeated her, she might become furious and embarrassed, ending up in a ‘tsundere’ situation as described in the book. So he needed a reliable wingman—Liya’s best friend’s help… But how could he get her best friend to be his wingman?

Yagesi took three seconds to find the answer.

“I’ll just kidnap her. Figure out the rest later.”

Good, the wingman problem was solved. Next was the duel with Liya.

“First, prepare a wingman, then find the heroine… Preferably talk to the heroine when both the wingman and the heroine are present. With the wingman’s cooperation, there’s a higher chance of success… Got it!”

Synthesizing the knowledge from the book, Yagesi finally planned his next moves.

“First, take away Liya’s friend, then make her come to me. Finally, duel her in front of her friend, win, and show off my strength. Then Liya will surely understand my power and fall for me. Looks like I’ve pretty much reached the pinnacle of being a Casanova.”

Yagesi nodded with satisfaction and tossed the book he’d finished onto the sofa.

Since the plan was made, all that remained was action. He decided to rest well today and start tomorrow.

With a contented smile, Yagesi leaned against the sofa and drifted into dreams.

Almost at the same time, Liya, who was training in her own dormitory, suddenly felt a chill down her spine.

“Shh! What’s this?!”

Her mana radiated outward on its own, but the chill never faded. It was like being cursed, a strange, nauseating feeling… What’s happening? How odd…

As she thought, Liya couldn’t help but recall the demon youth she had met today.

“Twelve Knights… huh?”

She had already planned to challenge the top twenty (The Best) students soon. Who knew a target would come to her so quickly? The eleventh seat. Indeed, a formidable opponent. She could sense pure fighting spirit from him. Even if he wasn’t a martial artist, he must be a battle-hardened warrior.

“Something to look forward to.”

He said they would meet again soon. She hoped he would come quickly. Her injuries were mostly healed. To continue improving, fighting the strong was the best.

“Maybe I’ll seek him out tomorrow.”

A martial artist’s desire for a duel was one thing. On this matter, Liya also had a selfish consideration.

(If possible, I’d like to forge a friendship between warriors.)
