Chapter 126: The Unfolding Chaos

Salome narrowed her eyes, carefully observing the central plaza stage. Due to the significant distance and the obstructing crowd, she could only make out a few details with difficulty.

Towards the stage, a group of people seemed to have appeared from an unknown direction. Being too far away, Salome couldn’t discern their exact intentions, only that they were engaged in some physical altercation with the staff assembling the stage.

The chaotic scene immediately drew the attention of some onlookers in the plaza.

Initially, both sides appeared to be in a standoff. However, Salome, observing from a ‘third-party’ vantage point, keenly noticed another group emerging from an alley, joining the commotion in the plaza.

Salome quickly observed a distinct difference in this newly arrived group. Simply put, it was their combat prowess.

Despite the considerable distance, Salome could discern that this latter group wasn’t just haphazardly clashing with the staff. They had come prepared, showing no regard for fair play.

The increased numbers, coupled with their superior skills, swiftly shattered the fragile balance. The stage crew was overwhelmed by the instigators, and immediately, someone in the crowd seized the opportunity to climb onto the stage.

They rushed directly towards the magical amplification device carved into the stage.

“We are not here today to disrupt the festivities. We merely wish to seize this opportunity to express our anger.”

The magically carved amplifier on the stage was designed to project sound across the entire plaza, much like a microphone. The slightly agitated voice now emanating from it instantly captured the attention of almost everyone within the plaza’s vicinity.

“I hope everyone will listen carefully to our demands.”

“I am from the East District. Some time ago, that person from The Erudite Club brought disaster to the East District…”

Although Salome’s dessert shop was outside the plaza, the stage equipment for the Autumn Festival was exceptionally loud. Even from such a distance, Salome could hear the speaker’s voice clearly.

The person on stage spoke quickly and with great emotion. For a moment, no one attempted to stop them.

This was because the stage crew had already been subdued by the speaker’s accomplices. Naturally, ordinary passersby wouldn’t invite trouble by climbing onto the stage to intervene.

“Something doesn’t feel right.”

Eve frowned.

She had also noticed that the commotion in the plaza was gradually escalating into considerable chaos, with more and more people gathering.

“Salome, I want to go take a look. Will you…”

Eve looked at Salome, a hint of hesitation in her eyes.

Salome immediately understood and waved her hand.

“It’s fine, Sister Eve. I know how to protect myself. I’ll just sit here obediently and wait for you.”

“However, the City Guard should be arriving soon to handle this. Is it really necessary for Sister Eve to go personally?”

Eve shook her head, her brow still furrowed, her gaze unwavering from the direction of the plaza.

“Just in case. There are so many people in the central plaza today; it would be terrible if something unexpected happened.”

Salome, of course, offered only a perfunctory warning. She knew it would be futile to persuade Eve.

Although Eve was tormented by the plot in the original story, becoming a rather dark character, a strong sense of justice still resided within her.

At this point in the original plot, Eve’s injuries had not fully healed. Yet, upon noticing the growing commotion in the alleys outside the carriage, she had unhesitatingly chosen to dismount and help.

Even if Salome hadn’t mentioned it, Eve would surely find a place to settle her, then immediately rush to the plaza to assist.

“Then Xiluo’er, wait for me here. Don’t run off, alright?”

“Mhm, don’t worry, Sister Eve.”

Eve gave Xiluo’er one last, slightly worried instruction. Only after seeing Xiluo’er nod emphatically did Eve hurry away.

It wasn’t until Eve’s retreating figure vanished into the crowd that Xiluo’er exhaled, then also rose to her feet.

Though somewhat inexplicable, Xiluo’er suddenly felt like a child whose parents had just left for work, having sternly told them to stay home and do their homework. The child, having eagerly agreed, couldn’t wait for them to leave so they could immediately turn on the computer and *start* playing.

Without a moment’s hesitation, Xiluo’er also left her seat. However, she hadn’t taken two steps before suddenly turning back, devouring the cake on her plate. Only then, with hamster-like cheeks bulging, did she scamper out of the dessert shop.

After all, she’d be busy with a task soon, and likely wouldn’t have the chance to return to the dessert shop to slowly finish these treats…

One couldn’t possibly waste food, right?

On the rooftop of a tall building, Irene sat on the ledge, her legs dangling, observing the situation in the plaza. She heard footsteps behind her.

Without turning, Irene greeted casually, “You’re so slow, Little Cat Tail. I’ve been waiting for you for ages.”

After all, sneaking out certainly required some effort, didn’t it?

In the corner of Irene’s vision, a smaller figure, cloaked in black, sat down beside her.

“But the view from here is really great, isn’t it? Little Cat Tail, how did you find this place?”

After a moment of silence, Salome slowly uttered a few words from behind her mask.

“Assassin’s basic training.”

The new rendezvous point had been chosen by Salome. Of course, this location actually had nothing to do with assassin training.

As a high-level gamer, Salome, when playing *Brave Adventure Story*, naturally upheld the excellent tradition of high-level players who must climb around on rooftops, treetops, in rivers, and even inside other people’s rooms.

What high-level player takes the normal path when playing a game, right?

This place was, in Salome’s memory, the highest rooftop near the central plaza with the best view.

This proved true. From here, she and Irene had a bird’s-eye view, taking in everything happening in the plaza below.

“Well, the air up here feels really nice, though. There’s a sense of spaciousness, isn’t there?”

Salome rolled her eyes under her mask, unconcerned.

“Why don’t you say the air in Lund City has a sweet beauty to it, instead of ‘spaciousness’…?”

However, Irene truly seemed to be in a good mood because of the open environment. She casually took off her mask and stretched with a big yawn, showing no concern about falling.

“Little Cat Tail, with such fresh air, aren’t you going to take a good breath?”

Salome turned, immediately meeting Irene’s smiling expression.

Oh, now the true intentions were laid bare.

“I’ll do it myself, I’ll do it myself.”

Salome mumbled, reaching up to take off her own mask.
