X
Xiluo’er’s mood was exceptionally bright at this moment.
It was like putting on new underwear for the New Year—in short, it was simply exhilarating!
Eve, as expected of a Hero, was incredibly reliable with her actions. Shadow was undoubtedly utterly dead.
Wouldn’t the subsequent matters be much simpler then?
Eve had already rushed to the basement, and with the protagonist present, Rona should not encounter any problems. Seizing this opportunity, Xiluo’er could swiftly retrieve the antidote from Shadow’s corpse.
Freed from the shackles of the poison, she could openly escape from the Chaos Cult, that unscrupulous organization. She would also put as much distance as possible between herself and Eve, lest she be cut down as per the plot’s progression.
Xiluo’er felt as though she could already see a wonderful life beckoning to her!
The days of constant anxiety since her transmigration were finally drawing to a close.
And so, Xiluo’er skipped and hopped through the dilapidated Lord’s Manor garden, humming a little tune. She resembled a young girl gathering mushrooms.
“Today is a good day, a goo~d da~y~”
“All my~ heart’s desires, will come~ true~”
After hopping for a short while, Xiluo’er successfully located Shadow’s corpse—if, indeed, it could still be called a corpse.
It had to be said, Eve was quite a woman of her word. She had told Shadow, “I’ll make sure you die a quick death,” and from the current state of affairs, Shadow had indeed died quite swiftly.
That charred, almost pulverized substance on the ground was, perhaps, or maybe, what remained of Shadow’s body.
After all, when Shadow faced Eve’s attack head-on, he was in the process of using shadow displacement to flee. He knew perfectly well that relying solely on defense would have cooked him well-done.
The result was that the attack’s range was too vast. He couldn’t escape in time, enduring the full, devastating blow, and was utterly unable to rise again.
Xiluo’er could barely discern a few fragments that were originally black matter, confirming that the large, scorched mass before her was Shadow, or rather, what used to be Shadow.
Hah, good riddance! Time to pop champagne!
Xiluo’er held no affection for this contact person who had secretly been plotting dangerous schemes. With Shadow dead, the dark cloud that had always hung over her head could finally dissipate.
Ah, what a good death, a truly good death…
Smiling, Xiluo’er crouched down, reaching out to retrieve the antidote from Shadow’s corpse.
‘Let me think, he usually kept the antidote tucked away in his robe…’
At this thought, Xiluo’er’s outstretched hand suddenly froze.
She glanced at the charred mass before her, then back at her own hand. Xiluo’er’s smile gradually vanished.
She had suddenly realized a problem.
Shadow’s entire body had been blasted to smithereens, so the bottle of antidote he carried was probably, maybe, most likely…
Also gone, wasn’t it?
Her mood plummeted from the clouds straight into the abyss. Xiluo’er blinked several times at the black mass before her.
Then, a suppressed wail echoed through the Lord’s Manor garden in the dead of night.
“Oh, what’s all this racket, you startled me! Don’t you know this great lord is trying to sleep? In the middle of the night…”
Perhaps her reaction was indeed too strong, for Freya’s displeased voice resonated in her mind.
‘But Xiluo’er couldn’t care less about that now,’ she thought. With a soft *thump*, Xiluo’er sank to the ground in a seiza-like position.
‘It’s completely over now.’
‘The antidote was caught in Eve’s attack and utterly destroyed. The poison in my body will act up in just two or three days.’
‘Which means… I’m done for!’
Xiluo’er had never imagined that before she even had a chance to embrace her new life, her existence would come to such an abrupt end.
‘Dying in another world because I accidentally blew up the antidote along with the enemy—wouldn’t that be a melodramatic plot criticized in transmigration novels?’
Regardless, Freya’s boisterous chatter continued in her mind, seemingly annoyed that Xiluo’er dared to ignore her, a divine being.
Therefore, Xiluo’er quickly adjusted her emotions and began to explain the situation to Freya.
“Sorry, Freya, it seems we’re both about to be finished.”
Freya in her mind fell silent for a moment, then cleared her throat, deliberately adopting a gentle, intellectual big-sister-like voice.
Though such a tone sounded incredibly out of place coming from her.
“Well, Xiluo’er, life is still beautiful, isn’t it? We must learn to look forward.”
“No matter what setbacks we encounter, we must believe we can overcome them… For example, look at this great lord. I was haphazardly brought to the mortal realm by that scoundrel, but am I not still bravely and resiliently facing life?”
After saying this, Freya seemed to realize that the ‘scoundrel’ she spoke of was currently conversing with her. This awkwardness felt rather inappropriate, so she quickly cleared her throat twice to change the topic.
“*Cough cough*, in any case, don’t think about ending your life so easily. At least fall in love once before you die, wouldn’t you agree?”
Xiluo’er opened her mouth, suddenly finding herself at a loss for how to explain things to Freya.
‘How could a god who is so unreliable and whose mind is equally unreliable offer any good advice?’
The deity seemed to have misunderstood something.
“No, actually, it’s like this…”
After briefly explaining the current situation to Freya, Xiluo’er immediately heard a drawn-out, displeased “Hmph” sound in her mind.
“What is it? This great lord thought something serious had happened, but it’s just this?”
“But, if I leave it unchecked, I’ll be six feet under in two days, and I remember if I die, you’ll also…”
“Hmph hmph.”
Freya interrupted Xiluo’er, speaking triumphantly.
“So, you’re poisoned, and if it’s not dealt with, you’ll die when the poison acts up in two days, right?”
“You should have told me about this earlier! Dealing with a poison is utterly simple for this great lord, wouldn’t you say?”
Listening to Freya’s boastful tone, Xiluo’er was momentarily stunned.
“You can deal with the poison in my body?”
“But, didn’t you say that each deity’s divine authority is fixed? And aren’t you the deity who presides over [Reproduction]…”
Despite her doubts, a sliver of hope rekindled in Xiluo’er’s heart upon hearing Freya’s confident voice.
‘What is this called? This is called ‘when mountains and rivers block the way, and you suspect no path remains, a village appears amidst the willows and bright flowers!’
If Freya could truly deal with the poison in her body, Xiluo’er felt that Freya could at least be upgraded from the “useless” category to “somewhat useful.”
“My divine authority is indeed [Reproduction], that’s correct. But a deity’s authority isn’t so rigidly constrained, you know. There are still points of intersection between similar authorities.”
“For example, I am indeed a subordinate deity who presides over the authority of [Reproduction], but do you know which main god I am subordinate to?”
