Chapter 47: The Wound

Li Xiao froze, not dodging.

As the collar was pulled aside, a wound was fully exposed.

It was about five or six centimeters long, rather deep, with dried blood around it—probably from a shard of flying glass yesterday.

Jiang Yu’s pupils suddenly constricted.

The wound was on the side of the neck, near the collarbone. A little further and it could have hit an artery.

Li Xiao finally reacted. He grabbed Jiang Yu’s hand, still at his collar, and curled his lips into a teasing smile:

“What are you doing? Getting so close all of a sudden… Trying to ambush me?”

Jiang Yu shook off his hand, his brow deeply furrowed:

“Back off. You’re cut.”

“Cut?”

Only then did Li Xiao belatedly touch his neck. When he reached the wound, he hissed:

“That actually stings a bit.”

“Must be from the broken glass yesterday.”

Jiang Yu stared at the wound, his expression darkening:

“We need to disinfect it, or it might get infected.”

“No need for all that trouble.”

Li Xiao waved his hand dismissively:

“The blood has already clotted. It’ll heal on its own in a couple of days.”

“Still needs to be treated.”

Jiang Yu stood up and walked toward the drawer under the TV cabinet:

“I’ll get the first-aid kit.”

Li Xiao watched his busy back, the smile in his eyes deepening.

Jiang Yu quickly returned with an old, small first-aid kit and set it on the coffee table.

With his left hand, he clumsily opened the lid and fumbled out iodine, cotton swabs, gauze, and medical tape.

He handed the iodine bottle to Li Xiao:

“Unscrew this for me.”

Li Xiao raised an eyebrow, obediently took it and unscrewed the cap, then held the bottle up with one hand.

“Pull your collar open a bit and hold it in place.”

Jiang Yu said again, his left hand already tearing open a pack of cotton swabs.

Li Xiao grabbed the collar of his sweater with his other hand, pulled it to the side, revealing the five-to-six-centimeter-long wound.

The edges of the wound were red and swollen, with dried, dark bloodstains around it.

Jiang Yu pinched a cotton swab with his left hand, dipped it into the iodine Li Xiao was holding.

He leaned in, body slightly forward, his left hand hovering over Li Xiao’s neck, hesitating for a moment.

So close that Jiang Yu could see the fine down on the skin of Li Xiao’s neck, could see the faint pulse beneath the wound.

Jiang Yu’s eyelashes trembled. His left hand moved forward, the cotton swab gently touching the edge of the wound.

Li Xiao instinctively shrank back.

“Does it hurt?”

Jiang Yu stopped, looking up at him.

Li Xiao met his gaze. His eyes, now slightly narrowed from the pain, actually… seemed a bit pitiful.

“It hurts.”

Li Xiao’s voice dropped, a bit hoarse:

“Maybe if you blow on it, it won’t hurt.”

Jiang Yu looked at him without speaking, his eyes as calm as if he were watching a child throwing a tantrum.

Li Xiao thought Jiang Yu wouldn’t indulge such a childish request and was about to laugh it off.

But Jiang Yu suddenly lowered his head, leaned close to his neck, pursed his lips slightly, and blew a very, very gentle breath onto the wound.

The warm breath brushed against his skin, and Li Xiao went completely rigid.

His fingers tightened abruptly around the iodine bottle, his pupils shrunk, and his heart pounded wildly.

Li Xiao looked down at the top of Jiang Yu’s head so close, at the pale skin peeking out from the collar of his loungewear, at Jiang Yu’s slightly pursed lips in concentration. His Adam’s apple bobbed violently.

After blowing, Jiang Yu straightened up again, replaced the cotton swab with a clean one, dipped it in iodine, and continued disinfecting.

This time, his movements were even gentler.

“Does it still hurt?”

Jiang Yu asked softly while carefully wiping.

“…It doesn’t.”

Li Xiao’s voice was hoarse. He forced himself to look away, fixing his gaze on the old first-aid kit on the coffee table, his fingers unconsciously rubbing the surface of the iodine bottle.

Jiang Yu didn’t notice the change in his voice. He focused on cleaning the wound, then used a clean cotton swab dipped in water to wipe away any remaining iodine and bloodstains from the surrounding skin.

“Let me cover it with gauze, or the collar will keep rubbing against it and bringing bacteria.”

Jiang Yu picked up a small square of gauze and medical tape, handing them to Li Xiao:

“Stick the gauze and tape together for me. I’ll just put it on you directly—I can’t do it one-handed.”

“Okay.”

Li Xiao nodded, set down the iodine, took the gauze and tape, stuck them together, and handed them back.

Jiang Yu pinched the edge of the gauze with his left hand and leaned close to Li Xiao’s neck.

His fingertips inevitably touched the skin of Li Xiao’s neck.

Li Xiao obediently kept his head tilted, letting Jiang Yu carefully and clumsily—with his left hand—press the gauze over his wound.

Jiang Yu was very serious as he applied it.

His left hand wasn’t as nimble as his right, and his fingertips brushed against Li Xiao’s collarbone and neck several times while positioning the gauze.

Each touch felt like a tiny electric current.

Li Xiao closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and when he opened them again, his gaze was slightly clearer.

“All done.”

Jiang Yu pulled back a little and checked:

“Don’t get it wet for a couple of days.”

“Mm.”

Li Xiao let go of the hand holding his collar, and the fabric snapped back, covering the edge of the gauze.

He turned to look at Jiang Yu.

Jiang Yu was packing up the first-aid kit, tossing used cotton swabs into the trash with his left hand, screwing the lid back on the iodine bottle. The movements were slow but steady.

Winter afternoon sunlight slanted through the window, falling on Jiang Yu’s bowed profile.

His eyelashes were long, casting delicate shadows under his eyes. His nose was straight, his lips slightly pursed from concentration, tinted a faint pink.

His right arm was immobilized in a sling against his chest. As his left hand moved, the loose sleeve of his loungewear slid down, revealing a slender, pale wrist.

Li Xiao watched, and the heat he had just suppressed surged up again.

He suddenly wanted very much to pull this person into his arms, to kiss him, to confirm he was real, to…

“Knock, knock, knock.”

A knock on the door suddenly broke the delicate silence in the living room.

Jiang Yu paused, looking up at the door.

“Should be lunch,” Li Xiao said.

He stood up, walked to the door, peered through the peephole, and opened it.

The delivery person, in the uniform of an upscale private kitchen, handed over two large insulated bags respectfully:

“Mr. Li, your order.”

“Thank you.”

Li Xiao took them, closed the door, brought the bags to the small folding table, and opened them one by one.

Cordyceps flower chicken soup, steamed sea bass with ginger and scallions, blanched choy sum, and a bowl of yam and pork rib congee.

The aroma instantly filled the small living room.

Jiang Yu put the first-aid kit back in the drawer, washed his hands in the bathroom, and sat down on a stool by the table.

“Have some soup first.”

Li Xiao ladled out a small bowl of chicken soup and handed it to Jiang Yu.

Jiang Yu took it, holding the spoon in his left hand, and took small sips.

“I already picked out the fish bones.”

Li Xiao placed the tenderest piece of sea bass into Jiang Yu’s bowl:

“Eat slowly.”

Jiang Yu picked up chopsticks with his left hand, his movements clumsy but steady.

“By the way,” Li Xiao suddenly spoke, his tone casual,

“Why don’t you come stay at my place?”
