Chapter 11: The Only Creditor

Jiang Yu began learning to act like an emotionless puppet in front of Li Xiao.

From nine to midnight, he showed up at that exclusive booth, mixing drinks, pouring wine, answering Li Xiao’s occasional questions in a tone so calm it lacked any ripple.

When Li Xiao told him to sit closer, he shifted half a foot.

When Li Xiao asked if he was tired from delivering food during the day, he said, “It’s fine.”

When Li Xiao’s fingers accidentally brushed the back of his hand, he didn’t even flutter an eyelash.

He was like an exquisite, breathing doll.

At first, Li Xiao was quite satisfied with this obedience.

But soon, he sensed something wrong.

Jiang Yu’s eyes held a dead gray.

It was as if his soul had already been drawn out, leaving only a beautiful shell following orders.

That restless feeling in Li Xiao’s chest returned, growing stronger by the day.

He would rather Jiang Yu glare at him like before, curse him, call him “disgusting”—at least that was alive, that carried warmth.

Not like this, sitting quietly beside him yet separated by an invisible pane of glass.

Friday night, Li Xiao arrived earlier than usual.

Jiang Yu was mixing a Godfather, his movements precise as a machine.

“The preliminary review for your sister’s student aid has passed,” Li Xiao suddenly said.

Jiang Yu’s hand paused for a moment, then returned to normal.

“Thank you.”

His tone was flat, hardly grateful.

Li Xiao stared at his profile. “That’s all the reaction I get?”

“What reaction did Mr. Li expect?” Jiang Yu pushed the finished drink toward him, looked up, his eyes calm and lifeless. “Kneel in thanks? Or offer myself up?”

Li Xiao choked on the words.

He frowned, about to say something, when the phone in Jiang Yu’s vest pocket vibrated.

Jiang Yu took it out and glanced at the caller ID: “Brother Wang.”

Finally, his expression changed—a flicker of instinctive tension and disgust, quickly suppressed.

“I need to take this.”

He stood and walked to a corner near the booth.

Li Xiao watched his back as he answered the call, tapping his fingers lightly on the sofa.

“Brother Wang.” Jiang Yu’s voice was very low, but fragments still drifted over.

Li Xiao picked up his glass, sipped slowly, his ears trained on the conversation.

“…next month’s interest… what?” Jiang Yu’s voice suddenly halted.

His back stiffened for a moment.

After a few seconds, he spoke again, disbelief coloring his voice. “What did you say? Transferred to whom?”

The other side said something else.

Jiang Yu’s fingers gripping the phone tightened abruptly.

“…Li Xiao?” He repeated the name, softly, as if squeezed between his teeth. “When? …Yesterday? Why wasn’t I told in advance? …Fine, I understand.”

He hung up.

Standing there, back to Li Xiao, he didn’t move.

Li Xiao could see the slight rise and fall of his shoulders, as if he were suppressing something.

A full minute passed before Jiang Yu turned and walked back to the booth.

He didn’t sit down. Standing there, he looked down at Li Xiao.

The overhead light cast shadows on his face, making his expression unreadable.

But Li Xiao could feel it—in those dead eyes, a fire had ignited. Not anger. Something heavier, colder.

“You bought up all my debt to the loan sharks?” Jiang Yu’s voice was calm, eerily calm.

“Mm.” Li Xiao set down his glass, admitting openly. “To save you from their monthly harassment. Now I’m your only creditor.”

He expected Jiang Yu to be relieved, or at least breathe a sigh.

After all, compared to those ruthless loan sharks, he, as a “creditor,” was obviously “gentler.”

But he was wrong.

After hearing this, Jiang Yu suddenly smiled.

It was a faint, cold smile, dripping with sarcasm.

“Only creditor…” He repeated the term as if hearing an absurd joke. “So now, including principal and interest, how much do I owe you in total?”

“Principal plus interest, two hundred fifty thousand.” Li Xiao quoted the number.

Jiang Yu nodded. “Good. I’ll pay you back. You set the terms—monthly amount, payment method. I’ll transfer to your account on time.”

His tone was businesslike, as if negotiating an ordinary loan.

Li Xiao frowned. “I don’t need that money.”

“But you bought the debt, so you’re the creditor.” Jiang Yu looked at him, eyes sharp. “A debt must be repaid; that’s only right. Mr. Li, please give me your account, and I’ll pay monthly. As for the rest—” He paused, his voice colder. “I’ll sit here with you for three hours every night… consider it part of the interest. Is that enough? If not, I can increase the time.”

Li Xiao’s face darkened.

He understood Jiang Yu’s meaning—Jiang Yu wanted to settle the account clearly, to put a price tag on “debt” and “company,” drawing a clear line.

“Jiang Yu.” Li Xiao stood up. He was half a head taller, and when he approached, the sense of oppression was strong. “Must you be like this?”

“Then how should I be?” Jiang Yu looked up at him, not backing down. “Overwhelmed with gratitude? Think you’ve saved me from the loan sharks? Then willingly become your possession?”

He curled his lips. “Mr. Li, you’ve just changed from one creditor to another. The only difference is you’re richer than Brother Wang, more skilled, and better at making it so I… can’t resist.”

Li Xiao stared at him for a long time.

Suddenly, he reached out, grabbed the back of Jiang Yu’s neck, and pulled him close.

Their faces were almost touching.

Breath mingled.

“What if I said I never meant to be your creditor?” Li Xiao’s voice was low, carrying suppressed emotion. “What if I said I just didn’t want to see those scumbags threatening and bothering you anymore?”

Jiang Yu’s eyelashes trembled, but his eyes remained icy. “Does it make a difference? The outcome is the same—my IOU is in your hands, my sister’s future is in your hands. I still have to sit here every night, drink with you, and do your bidding.”

He paused, then added, “And you’re greedier than them. They wanted money; you want a person.”

Li Xiao’s grip tightened.

He could feel the warmth of Jiang Yu’s skin, smell the faint alcohol and soap on him.

At this distance, every eyelash of Jiang Yu’s was visible, and those beautiful eyes reflected his shadow—yet were cold as ice.
