Chapter 62: The Bandage and the Kiss

“…Where’s the first aid kit?”

Jiang Yu finally gave in, his voice low.

“Under the TV cabinet in the living room. I’ll get it.”

Li Xiao’s eyes lit up. He rose at once and strode out, returning quickly with the kit.

He set the box on the bed, opened it, and took out fresh gauze, medical tape, and iodine swabs.

Then he crouched in front of Jiang Yu again, tilting his head slightly to fully expose the injured side of his neck.

Jiang Yu picked up an iodine swab with his left hand and tore open the wrapper.

He leaned in, moving closer.

Li Xiao watched his lowered, slightly trembling lashes, his straight nose bridge, and his lips—pursed in concentration, naturally tinted. His Adam’s apple bobbed involuntarily.

Jiang Yu didn’t notice the subtle movement. Carefully holding the swab in his left hand, he began to gently wipe around the wound, moistening the edge of the loose old gauze to peel it off.

His fingertips occasionally brushed against Li Xiao’s neck.

The skin there was scorching hot, firm to the touch.

Jiang Yu’s breathing slowed unconsciously as he fought to keep his left hand steady.

The old gauze came off gently, revealing the wound beneath.

Jiang Yu disinfected it again with a fresh iodine swab, moving in circles from the center outward, his motions tender.

Li Xiao felt the cool touch and Jiang Yu’s warm breath. The hands resting on his knees clenched quietly into fists.

Disinfection done, Jiang Yu picked up a new square gauze pad.

“I’ll help you hold the gauze in place.”

Li Xiao’s voice was hoarser than before. He raised a hand and pressed two fingers lightly on one corner of the gauze, steadying it.

Jiang Yu tore off a piece of tape, measured it, then bit one end with his teeth while holding the other with his left hand. He leaned down, ready to apply it.

The position brought him almost entirely over Li Xiao.

Their faces were inches apart.

Jiang Yu could feel Li Xiao’s steady, hot breath washing over his chin and neck, and his own heartbeat quickened.

He forced himself to focus. He pressed one end of the tape onto the edge of the gauze, then slowly moved his left hand, smoothing the tape across the gauze and onto Li Xiao’s skin.

His fingertips inevitably brushed that warm flesh.

Li Xiao’s body gave a faint tremor.

After the first strip, Jiang Yu pulled back a little, caught his breath, and repeated the process for the second and third strips.

Each application brought them closer.

The air was thick with the astringent smell of iodine, mingling with their increasingly apparent body heat and scents.

The last strip was in place.

Jiang Yu finally finished. Relieved, he instinctively leaned back, trying to create distance.

In that instant, Li Xiao reached out and pulled Jiang Yu into an embrace.

The movement was careful, avoiding Jiang Yu’s injured right arm, just gently encircling his shoulders and waist, drawing him wholly into his arms.

Caught off guard, Jiang Yu’s cheek pressed against Li Xiao’s solid, warm chest. His nose was filled with Li Xiao’s scent and a faint cologne.

A rapid, powerful heartbeat thudded against his ear—thump, thump, thump.

“Li Xiao…”

Jiang Yu’s voice was muffled against his chest, tinged with surprise and a hint of panic.

“Let me hold you for a bit.”

Li Xiao’s voice came from above, low and husky: “Just a bit.”

His arms tightened, and his chin brushed lightly against Jiang Yu’s soft hair.

Jiang Yu’s body stiffened for a few seconds.

He could feel the strength in Li Xiao’s embrace, and the equally out-of-control pounding of his own heart.

In the end, he didn’t push away.

Slowly, his body relaxed. His left hand hung uncertainly at his side, then hesitantly grasped the fabric of Li Xiao’s sweater at his waist.

Li Xiao’s arms were warm, solid.

The faint cologne mixed with his body heat formed a unique, reassuring scent.

Jiang Yu closed his eyes, allowing himself to sink briefly into the tight embrace.

Time seemed to stand still.

Only their intertwined heartbeats and breaths were audible in the quiet room.

Just then—

“Buzz. Buzz.”

The phone on the bed vibrated twice.

The tender atmosphere shattered.

Jiang Yu snapped back to reality. His body tensed again as he squirmed slightly: “…My phone’s ringing.”

Li Xiao sighed almost inaudibly. His arms loosened but didn’t let go completely.

Jiang Yu struggled free with some difficulty using his left hand, his cheeks still flushed. He reached for the phone on the bed.

It was a WeChat message from Jiang Qing.

“Bro, I’m home! The door’s locked, don’t worry! Get some rest early, and remember to take your medicine! 【Cute】”

Jiang Yu looked at the message, a small smile tugging at his lips. He quickly typed a reply with his left hand:

“Okay, got it. You sleep early too. Make sure the windows are locked.”

No sooner had the message sent than a shadow fell beside him.

Li Xiao had leaned in without warning. He planted a quick kiss on Jiang Yu’s still-flushed cheek—a smack of the lips—then immediately pulled back, swift as the wind.

Jiang Yu froze, phone in hand, eyes wide. The spot where he’d been kissed felt like it was on fire.

“You…”

“Thanks for the bandage, Dr. Jiang.”

Li Xiao was already standing, a bright, smug, utterly insufferable grin on his face, his eyes blazing. “Nice work. That’s your reward.”

Without waiting for Jiang Yu’s reaction, he turned and strode out of the master bedroom, closing the door behind him with a “thoughtful” click.

Jiang Yu sat on the edge of the bed, touching his hot cheek, staring at the closed door. After a long moment, he gritted his teeth and muttered:

“…Bastard.”

But the corner of his mouth betrayed him, curling up into a tiny, uncontrollable smile.

His heart was still racing.

He lay down, pulled the covers over himself, and turned off the bedside lamp.

The room fell into darkness, lit only by the faint glow of his phone screen.

Soon, a WeChat notification sounded again.

It was Li Xiao.

Jiang Yu opened it.

Li Xiao: “Lock the door.”

Another message followed:

“Though I’d like to be a gentleman, my self-control isn’t great around you.”

Jiang Yu stared at the message, his cheeks burning in the dark.

He looked at the screen for a few seconds, scrolled through his sticker pack, and finally sent a panda head rolling its eyes with a disdainful expression.

In the guest bedroom.

Li Xiao lay on the bed, looking at the disgusted sticker on his screen, and let out a low laugh.

He could picture Jiang Yu right now—face red, mouth pursed, glaring at his phone with pretended ferocity.

Adorable as hell.

Li Xiao set down his phone, feeling utterly delighted. He got up, humming a tuneless song, and headed for the guest bathroom.

Time for a cold shower.

Otherwise, he really wouldn’t be able to sleep tonight.
