Chapter 27: A Noontime Promise

Tang Yaqi and the others returned to the classroom before Liu Ya. They gathered and chatted for a while, only dispersing when they noticed Liu Ya had come back.

Before leaving, Mengmeng crept up to her ear and whispered.

“Yaqi! Want to hang out next time?”

“Mm, sure!”

Yaqi smiled and nodded. At that moment Liu Ya also arrived. Seeing her, Mengmeng winked at Yaqi and ran off.

“Going out? What’s that about? With who?”

Unlike Yaqi’s beaming smile, Liu Ya was twisted with jealousy. She interrogated coldly. Yaqi twirled her hair and smiled.

Liu Ya gently squeezed, feeling the soft pressure between her fingers. She fantasized about the wonderful life that would come when she could hold that hand someday.

The lunch break bell rang. Everyone packed up and left in pairs. Yaqi yawned, sitting at her desk with a blank look, completely confused.

Seeing that most people had left, Liu Ya leaned closer and whispered.

“Sister Yaqi… you…”

“Yaqi!”

Before she could finish, Mengmeng came jogging over. She spotted Liu Ya and twisted her body awkwardly.

“Yeah, I was about to.”

“Hey Yaqi, want to come back to my dorm for a nap?”

Yaqi’s eyes widened. She couldn’t believe you could sleep in the dorm during break. Liu Ya was equally stunned; her plan had been snatched up before she could even start.

Mengmeng’s cheerful face became tense. Her voice quieted, and her cheeks reddened.

“Um… Liu Ya, did I do something wrong?” she asked weakly.

“Ah, nothing. I just think your lip gloss color is pretty.”

Liu Ya tilted her head and gave a slight smile, her smooth hair swaying elegantly.

“Huh?”

“Huh!”

Mengmeng’s already red face turned even redder. She shyly twirled her hair with her fingers. Yaqi looked at Liu Ya in surprise, her eyes asking: How did you know she was wearing lip gloss?

“Wow, Liu Ya, you could tell? No one else noticed.”

“Not really. It suits you!” Liu Ya replied with a smile.

“Ah… um! I just tried it today for the first time. I know the school doesn’t allow makeup. I… I’ll only do it this once! I won’t again! So… Liu Ya, please don’t tell the teacher?”

As she spoke, Mengmeng pressed her palms together and shook them with a wry smile.

“Heh, fine. But don’t let it happen again.”

“I’ll take Yaqi to my dorm for a nap. Mengmeng, you should go back to yours too.”

Before she could finish, Liu Ya cut in, her plan striking Mengmeng squarely in the face.

“Then let’s go.”

Yaqi flopped onto the desk, turning her head to look at Liu Ya. She squinted and smiled, letting out a contented purr like a cat being petted.

Because of what happened last night with Liu Ya, Yaqi hadn’t slept well. Now, her last bit of consciousness was completely spent. She simply shut down and started snoring softly.

Liu Ya watched her quietly, a doting smile on her face. She gently poked Yaqi’s soft cheek, tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear, and then laid down herself, admiring the adorable sleeping face. Yaqi’s moist, rosy lips kept parting slightly.

(Not as comfortable as a bed… but this is pretty nice too! Even though I missed the chance to have our first meal at school with Sister Qiqi, this first time… seems even better! Hehe!)

Liu Ya wriggled into a comfortable position. Sleepiness washed over her, and her eyelids began to droop.
