Liu Ya pulled open the student council room door. A girl in her underwear stood in the middle of the room, getting dressed without any attempt to hide.
The morning sunlight generously bathed her snow-white skin. Backlit, her figure traced a graceful curve, without a trace of extra flesh.
The girl flinched when she saw Liu Ya and the other, but calmed down instantly. She sighed and went back to dressing herself. Yaqi let out a scared scream, immediately covered her eyes, and turned around.
“Seriously! I told you to knock before coming in!”
The girl’s voice was irritated, yet soft and melodious like a lark.
“Sorry, sorry! I didn’t know you were changing.”
Liu Ya walked in, leaving Yaqi frozen at the door in bewilderment.
“Hey! How long are you two going to stand at the door? Get in here!”
“Huh? G-get in? That’s not… Whoa! Liu Ya, don’t drag me!”
Yaqi kept her eyes covered, her body instinctively backing away. Liu Ya didn’t stand on ceremony and pulled her straight in.
She closed the door, walked directly to the table in the center of the room, hopped up to sit on it, and crossed her legs. Yaqi stood dumbstruck at the door.
The girl finished dressing, picked up a hairband from Liu Ya’s desk, and tied her hair back. She turned to look Yaqi up and down, then walked to the seat on Liu Ya’s right.
Leaning against the desk with her hands on the edge, she rested her hip on it.
“Is this her, Liu Ya?”
“Yeah. And why are you changing clothes so early in the morning anyway?”
“Oh! I went for a morning run to school and got all sweaty and sticky. Since I had a spare set of clothes in the student council room, I changed.”
“You’re really…”
The girl turned to look at Yaqi by the door.
“Hey… what’s her deal? We’re all girls here, come on.”
She glanced again. Liu Ya followed her gaze and looked resigned.
“Sister Yaqi, what are you doing? What are you so shy about?”
Hearing her name, Yaqi snapped out of it. She opened her eyes, confirmed both girls were dressed, let out a quiet breath, lowered her head slightly, stood properly, and mumbled softly:
“It’s not that… I just saw her changing… And besides, Liu Ya, shouldn’t we have waited outside? Why did we come in?”
The girl waved her hand and laughed.
“Oh! This school is all girls. It’s fine if you see something!”
“You, cut it out! You’re making me embarrassed. People would think I’m doing something shady in here…”
Hearing that, Liu Ya gave her a look of exasperation.
“Does a normal person change clothes out in the open in the student council room?”
“Ahem… never mind that! I’ll skip the small talk. Liu Ya, I agree to what you said. But don’t forget your promise!”
“Ha, fine.”
“Uh… huh?”
They high-fived in perfect sync. Yaqi was completely lost and spoke up timidly:
“Liu… Liu Ya…”
“What’s wrong?”
“This… what’s going on?”
“Oh, right. Let me introduce…”
Liu Ya switched legs, rested her elbow on her knee, tilted her head, and propped her chin on her hand, looking every bit like a queen. She began:
“This is the former student council presi…”
“Hi, I’m Ye Nuo. Vice president of the student council! Come to me if you need anything.”
Before Liu Ya could finish, Ye Nuo cut in.
“Uh… hello. I’m Tang Yaqi.”
“Nice to meet you!”
Ye Nuo stepped forward and shook hands with Yaqi. Liu Ya paused for a moment, then continued:
“Anyway… starting now, Sister Yaqi, you’re a member of the student council. You’ll take over Lin Xinyu’s position.”
“Your work involves handling miscellaneous tasks and reviewing budgets and such. We’ll go into detail at next Monday’s meeting. That’s it for now. Any questions?”
“Huh?”
Ye Nuo looked at Liu Ya in confusion. Yaqi, meanwhile, was speechless, staring blankly at Liu Ya. Judging by her expression, her brain had already shut down.
‘Huh? ‘Any questions?’ All of this is a problem! What is Liu Ya doing? How did I end up in the student council? And doing Lin Xinyu’s work? What is this…’
“Looks like that’s settled. Then…”
“Hey! Wait, wait! I have a question!” Yaqi quickly raised her hand.
“Oh… go ahead.”
“No, but… isn’t this a bit arbitrary? Why me? I just transferred here, I don’t know anything. And why am I doing Xin…”
Yaqi stopped mid-syllable when she noticed Ye Nuo’s expression shift. She quickly changed tack.
“A-and! I didn’t apply or anything. Picking me out of nowhere doesn’t seem right…”
Ye Nuo breathed a sigh of relief. Before Liu Ya could speak, she explained to Yaqi:
“Student council members have always been directly appointed by the president. No applications or tests needed.”
“Of course, if you do a bad job, as vice president, I have the right to kick you out unilaterally. Got it?”
“Yeah, that’s right. Any other questions?” Liu Ya chimed in.
“Uh…”
Seeing Yaqi still hesitating, Liu Ya said sternly:
“Also! From now on, you have to wear the school uniform. I’ll let it slide since you just transferred, but remember from now on, okay?”
“Ah… got it, got it.”
“Good.”
Liu Ya glanced at Yaqi’s clothes again. Her face reddened slightly. She propped her hands on the desk and whispered, feigning nonchalance:
“But… those clothes… they look nice. Better than yesterday’s. You can keep wearing them for now.”
“Oh… okay.”
“Pfft…”
Ye Nuo couldn’t hold back a laugh at Liu Ya’s reaction. But she quickly composed herself and extended a hand to Yaqi.
“Well then, I hope that as a member of the student council, you’ll serve the students diligently and maintain this big family!”
“Also, our student council is very peaceful. If there’s a problem, speak up directly. Don’t scheme behind our backs, got it?”
“Ah… okay…”
Yaqi took her hand and gave it a weak shake. Liu Ya cleared her throat from across the room.
“Ahem. Starting today, come work during morning break. Over there is your spot.”
Liu Ya pointed to the desk on Yaqi’s right.
“Oh… okay… Hey? No, no! I never said I’d come…”
“Didn’t you just agree?”
“No, I didn’t!”
Yaqi let go of Ye Nuo’s hand and stepped back. Liu Ya’s face showed displeasure. With both hands on the table, she jumped down and walked up to Yaqi, arms crossed, staring at her.
“What? Are you picking and choosing? Do you know how many people would kill to get in?”
“But… I never wanted to…”
Yaqi averted her eyes and backed away again. But Liu Ya pressed forward, forcing her all the way to the door.
“It’s not about what you want. You don’t have a choice.”
“Why is that?”
“Weren’t you the one who said you’d make it up to me? The student council has an opening. There’s a lot of work at the start of the semester, and finding someone else now would waste too much time.”
“Since I know you and you’re at least dependable, I decided this…”
Liu Ya’s voice grew softer. Ye Nuo, watching from the side, had already caught on but chose to enjoy the show. Yaqi, however, listened seriously.
“Is that so?”
“What? Are you unhappy? Or were you just talking big back then?”
“No, no! Hehe…”
Hearing Liu Ya’s words, Yaqi’s flustered expression relaxed.
‘So that’s it. Liu Ya trusts me, right? Hehe…’
‘Okay then! I’m glad I can help her.’
“What are you smiling about?”
“Oh, nothing, nothing.”
“So no issues?”
“None!”
“Good. Report to the student council during morning break. I’ll give you your tasks.”
As Liu Ya spoke, Ye Nuo chimed in with a smile:
“By the way, there are two other student council members. I’ll introduce you then. If you don’t understand anything, feel free to ask us. Everyone is very approachable.”
“Mm! But… ‘approachable,’ huh…”
“Huh? What’s wrong?”
Ye Nuo tilted her head curiously. Yaqi looked up hesitantly at the two, recalling what had just happened.
‘In broad daylight, clear as day! Even if the school is all girls, as a girl herself, she just stood in the sunlight changing clothes without a care…’
‘And Liu Ya just sat on the table, legs crossed, ordering me around… This is basically…’
“Basically like delinquents…”
“Huh? What did you say!”
“Pfft!”
Yaqi had blurted out her thoughts. Liu Ya’s face instantly darkened. Ye Nuo couldn’t stop laughing.
“Say that again!”
“Ah! No! I didn’t…”
Yaqi frantically waved her hands, reaching for the door handle behind her…
“Umm… I understand! Th-thanks! I’ll be going now! Bye, you two!”
Yaqi turned, yanked open the door, and darted out.
“Hey! Seriously…”
“Hahaha! Your sister is pretty interesting.”
Ye Nuo teased as Liu Ya tried to chase after her. But Ye Nuo sidestepped and blocked the door.
“Hey, wait. Liu Ya, what are you doing?”
“Huh? Wh-what do you mean?”
“We have morning patrol duty today. Did you forget?”
“Ah! No… Ye Nuo, sorry! I’ll have to skip it this time. You handle it.”
Liu Ya tried to slip under her arm, but Ye Nuo grabbed her, spun her around, and pinned her against the wall with a grin.
“Oh! What are you doing?”
“I can go, but what’s the rush?”
“I…”
“And didn’t you say she was just your ordinary sister? But just now, you acted like a scheming villain from a novel or manga.”
“Uh…”
“Wow! I can’t believe it. The usually gentle and kind Liu Ya can be so cold? No wonder she called us delinquents. You were like a queen just now.”
“Wh-what queen! Don’t slander me!”
Liu Ya reached out to push her, but Ye Nuo caught her wrist and pressed it against the wall.
“Hey! Don’t play innocent. Weren’t you the one always asking me for those punishment and discipline novels and manga? And now you’re telling me this?”
“Spill! What’s going on between you two?”
“Oh dear…”
Ye Nuo looked like she’d found something interesting, a mischievous grin on her face. Liu Ya tried to struggle, but she was no match in strength or height. She wriggled like a worm.
“Oh… let me go…”
“Hmph! Are you going to talk or not? If not, don’t come asking me for manga anymore!”
“This…”
‘Damn it, Ye Nuo is pushing it! No, Sister Qiqi is going back. If she’s alone with Yu Gong again, who knows what might happen…’
Liu Ya hesitated for a moment, then gritted her teeth.
“Oh! She… she’s my enemy!”
“Huh?”
Ye Nuo froze. Liu Ya seized the chance to slip out sideways, quickly reaching the door.
“She… she’s my enemy! Don’t misunderstand!”
“I’m just giving her a chance to make up for her mistake! If you don’t believe me, you can order her around as much as you want.”
“Uh…”
Liu Ya pulled open the door, but Ye Nuo called her back.
“Hey, wait!”
“Ah… what else?”
Ye Nuo was silent for a moment, then spoke slowly.
“I heard her almost mention Lin Xinyu. Did someone tell her something? Was it Yu Gong?”
“…Yes.”
“Then, Liu Ya…”
Ye Nuo’s words came out haltingly, as if choked. Liu Ya lowered her head, silent for a moment. Then she looked up abruptly and let out a breath.
“It’s fine. Sister Yaqi said she believes me.”
With that, Liu Ya turned to Ye Nuo and forced a slightly bitter smile.
“…Alright.”
“Mm.”
Liu Ya opened the door and hurried away. Ye Nuo turned, picked up the armband on the desk, and put it on. She gazed at the sunlit, empty hallway and let out a long sigh.
“Sigh. You’re too much of a softie.”
