And that was something that could only be obtained from Han Dokyeom. Everything stemmed from him. This moment was no different.
“…Think about what I’ve done every time I’ve met you, Han Dokyeom. Then you’ll find the answer.”
Taeseongyeon looked away from the distance and spoke. Dokyeom saw him like a man waking from a daydream. He probably was.
“…….”
There was no time to think. His body moved faster than his mind.
Creak.
The moment Dokyeom’s hand touched the table, the chair slid back without warning. A faint, unidentifiable sound came from somewhere. Dokyeom left the uselessly pushed chair and closed the distance to Taeseongyeon. It was barely two steps.
“I can’t do it like you, Taeseongyeon.”
With his relatively uninjured arm, Dokyeom wiped his mouth roughly. The smell of medicine was strong, and his arm wasn’t fully functional, so that was all he could think of to say.
The moment he stood in front of him, Dokyeom grabbed Taeseongyeon’s shoulder. The pain in his arm made him squint, and between his narrowed eyes, the streetlight seeped in.
He raised his other hand to find Taeseongyeon’s lips. When his fingertips pressed against the closed lips, an arm wrapped around his back. Their breaths grew close.
Feeling the breath brush his lips, Dokyeom met Taeseongyeon’s eyes one last time. Now he thought he understood what the man wanted to do with him.
“Still, whatever it is… let’s keep our promise.”
The moment their breaths tangled, their bodies pressed together as if crushed. Before Dokyeom could even steady himself, he was devoured by the fierce kiss that came while he held Taeseongyeon’s shoulders.
“Ha…”
His arms trembled. All he could feel was the thick tongue pushing past his lower lip and scraping his palate. He struggled to keep his posture from collapsing, but eventually broke the kiss, lowered his head, and gasped. A moist breath touched his ear.
“You have to do it properly, Dokyeom.”
“No, ha… wait… Taeseongyeon, you’re hitting on a patient…”
As Dokyeom tried to push Taeseongyeon away, his wrist was caught, and his body flipped as their positions reversed. The moment his back hit the chair, the damp breath touched his lips again.
Trapped in the chair, he had to receive that hot sigh. When his forced-up neck grew too stiff to endure, Dokyeom reached out and scraped down Taeseongyeon’s nape.
“Haah, enough, cough…”
“I am being moderate. What’s the problem?”
With a muffled voice, his earlobe was slowly rubbed. A maddening sensation brushed his spine, making his throat itch. When Dokyeom flinched, Taeseongyeon buried his lips in that narrow shoulder and inhaled. The smell of medicine was strong.
Frail and weak.
The hand that would normally have grabbed him by the collar now rested on his shoulder, trembling precariously. How could it look so weak?
The poisoned black forearm repeatedly lost strength and slipped. Taeseongyeon saw the gritted jaw beneath the bowed face and lowered his head to find the lips that were exhaling softly.
Then he dug into those lips with his thick tongue and rubbed his seal against the soft tip of the tongue.
“Scrape me. Slowly.”
“I know… so stop nagging…”
With red-rimmed eyes squinting, Dokyeom fiercely scraped the inside of Taeseongyeon’s tongue. A low moan of satisfaction rang out, and a calloused hand rubbed roughly over Dokyeom’s lips.
“……!”
Perhaps because of the heat of their bodies, feverishness set in. Taeseongyeon showed no mercy. If he lowered his head, he was grabbed and kissed. If he gasped for breath, he was suffocated by the tongue jostling and smearing.
When his lips were licked and rubbed, light burst before his eyes. Every time his head drooped weakly, a persistent kiss landed on his lips.
Maybe that was why he thought he heard screaming like tinnitus from somewhere. But with his breath so thick, he dismissed it as impossible.
The sound grew louder. Along with a vibration that made the building shake.
Thud.
“Haah… wait, Taeseongyeon. Where is that screaming coming from…”
“Indeed. Maybe someone came looking for a mother bird.”
It sounded like a joke. The strength in Dokyeom’s arm, which had been pushing Taeseongyeon away, gave out and slipped again. He collapsed, burying his head on Taeseongyeon’s shoulder.
As he gasped for breath, the screaming came again. Outside, car horns blared, and urgent footsteps echoed from the hallway. Occasional shouts of panic filtered in.
“Move. What are you doing in this situation, you lucky bastard…”
Just as Dokyeom frowned and pushed Taeseongyeon away to rise from the chair, before he could even push him off, an astonishingly large shadow fell over the window. And then,
Thud!
Something crashed into the window with a heavy roar. A massive form that filled the room with darkness just from its shadow.
“…What…”
Dokyeom froze, all movement stopping. And for good reason,
*Pii?*
Because that massive form was so familiar. His mouth, open in surprise, moved hesitantly. His eyes, taking in the form, blinked awkwardly.
Innocent eyes and a sharp beak scanning the room. Claws raised to cling to the narrow window frame, and black wings flapping for balance.
As soon as Dokyeom recognized the form, he turned pale and covered his mouth. No, wait. So…!
*Pii, *
The raptor’s eyes, recognizing Dokyeom, seemed to curve for a moment. Then angry claws scraped the wall, and a snake tail whipped around. The form of a person holding its nape came into view.
“You, you… no, wait… you guys…!”
*Pieeeeeek, !*
The raptor’s scream echoed across the pitch-black night. Startled by the ear-piercing sound, Dokyeom shoved Taeseongyeon away and rushed to the window.
It was Dali. A chimera-form Dali holding clothes in its beak! And not just that. Agon was there too, holding Dali’s nape with one hand and tapping the window with the other, as if checking its strength.
“Agon, you…! No, don’t break it! Hey, stay still! You’ll get in trouble!”
Dokyeom struggled to open the window, realized it was non-opening, and hurriedly prepared to go out.
“Bro, I’m going down! Down! Go down there! On the ground floor! First floor!”
Pale-faced, he burst out of the hospital room. As the door flew open, Baek Jiun, who had been eavesdropping, stepped back in surprise, then chased after Dokyeom, shouting, “No, bro! Where are you going this late at night?!”
“Huff, huff…”
*Pii, piek, *
In the distance, Dali’s sullen cry rang out. His heart sank. How much had Dali missed him to come the moment he knew Dokyeom was awake? He should have called first. Or at least video-called.
Without even fixing the slippers that kept slipping off, Dokyeom ran down from the eighth floor to the first floor in one breath. As soon as he reached the first floor, he crossed the chaotic lobby and rushed out of the hospital.
The outside was already in pandemonium from Dali’s appearance. Security guards shone lights on the building’s exterior and shouted warnings through megaphones.
*Whirrr, *
“Bro, over there! There’s Dali!”
At Baek Jiun’s words, Dokyeom looked around, then pushed through the crowd toward the security guard with the megaphone. On the eighth-floor exterior wall illuminated by the lights, Dali and Agon were blinking as they looked down.
Dali looked like a scolded puppy with its ears flattened, as if it thought it had done something wrong by drawing the crowd. When its eyes sparkled as if spotting something among the people, Dokyeom caught two pairs of eyes staring straight at him.
“Come here!”
Dokyeom stretched out his arms and shouted. His breath was ragged from running. He barely managed to stand, putting strength in his legs. The chimera, with eyes wide upon finding its owner, spread its massive wings and leaped into the air. Screams erupted from all sides simultaneously.
“Evacuate quickly! Agh, it’s coming this way!”
“Isn’t that a chimera?!”
“Move back!”
The gathered crowd scattered like the tide, and the wind from the wingbeats raised dust. Baek Jiun, who had stepped back to avoid the dust, was no different from the panicked people.
Only Dokyeom remained in place. A single feather drifted and touched his outstretched fingertips. Then a huge beak nuzzled into his arms like a spoiled child. Someone’s sinewy hand grabbed the back of his neck and pulled him.
*Pii, *
Soon, silence fell around them, and only scattered feathers floated in the air. Dokyeom looked up at the black feathers and embraced the warmth that had burrowed into his arms.
“What… worried you so much that you came this late at night?”
*Pie, *
Dali buried its beak in Dokyeom’s chest, which reeked of medicine, and burst into tears. It must have known from the smell that Dokyeom was sick.
Agon, who had grabbed the back of Dokyeom’s neck and pulled him close, clenched his jaw and trembled.
For some reason, a hollow laugh escaped Dokyeom.
