“There’s one more personal favor I’d like to ask. Even if other parts inevitably get adjusted, I really want this request included in the contract.”
“I’ll listen and consider it. Go ahead.”
The eyes that had been scanning the tablet landed on Beom Yeonhu. Yet Beom Yeonhu didn’t open his mouth easily. He seemed to sneak a glance at Dokyeom’s reaction.
Ah.
Catching on to the hint, Dokyeom pushed off his knees and stood up with a grunt.
“Ah, my throat is so dry—I suddenly crave a drink from the executive floor. I’ll go grab one and come back, so you two talk. Gosh, I’m parched.”
He didn’t know exactly what that condition was, but Beom Yeonhu was a hunter and a person fully capable of taking care of himself. He wouldn’t sign a contract that worked against his own interests.
Passing the secretary’s office, as soon as he exited the president’s office, Dokyeom took the elevator that was waiting right in front and headed straight to the seventh floor executive wing. He thought about briefly checking on Agon and Dali on the sixth floor, but figuring he’d get caught up, he just shook his head and let the thought go.
*Thunk—*
He pulled out as many drinks as he could from the vending machine, stuffed them into his pockets, then popped open one last can and chugged it down, quenching his thirst in a rush. Dokyeom leaned back on the elongated bench and used this time to organize the thoughts he’d been putting off.
Come to think of it, it had been ages since he’d been alone.
“What should I… start with?”
When he first wrote the novel. Back then, Dokyeom prided himself on being faster than others. To survive among the series, he figured he had to at least be swift, so when others posted one episode, he’d post two; when they posted two, he’d grit his teeth and put up three.
Of course, his writing skills were a mess; he only barely managed to keep up the mass-produced image.
Looking back now, that became the foundation. Because he had sketched out the main plotlines broadly and written them down, he was able to prepare to some extent for what was to come—that was the current situation.
“Past events… let’s just leave them at that.”
The problem was the future.
The ‘Authority’ Geon Ita obtained in the snowy mountains was the Dullahan—that is, the ‘Authority of Wrath,’ belonging to the Witch’s retainer. But Geon Ita wanted to acquire two more Authorities besides that.
One was the ‘Authority of Greed,’ and the other was the ‘Authority of Sloth.’
Even if the names sounded dubious, each of these two Authorities contained special latent properties with supplementary natures.
The ‘Authority of Greed’ had the ability to identify high-grade items, and the ‘Authority of Sloth’ exerted tremendous power in recovery and regeneration.
Geon Ita thought that he alone was enough to fight on the front lines anyway. The perfect picture in his mind was support troops that would back him up. He didn’t trust others because their temperaments didn’t match.
Geon Ita was the epitome of a self-righteous bastard who didn’t trust people.
But that son of a b*tch joined hands with Ju Uiryeong? That was as good as shouting that there was something going on.
Probably, there was some kind of deal between Geon Ita and Ju Uiryeong. Or a contract.
“Out of all the bastards, why Ju Uiryeong of all people?”
Even though he seemed apathetic about everything, Geon Ita also had his own plans. And those plans had a direction quite similar to Geon Ita’s ‘Starsign.’ To a ‘certain extent.’
Thus, Geon Ita’s ‘Starsign’ would also lend him power and aid him for now.
Then, excluding Agon, Dali, and Geon Ita’s ‘Authority of Wrath,’ what remained were four Authorities in total. Of course, this was limited to the ‘Demon’s Authorities.’
Unlike the ‘Demon’s Authorities,’ the ‘Angel’s Authorities’ scattered by angels were not individually very strong. However, when combined into one, the ‘Angel’s Authorities’ displayed tremendous power.
If asked which was stronger, he could answer definitively. When all were gathered, the stronger side was definitely the ‘Angel’s Authorities.’
Whether by chance or necessity, when the fourteen Authorities gathered in one place, that was when the ‘Final Play’ would descend upon this land.
[The ultimate purpose of this game was to gather all ‘Authorities’ in one place.]
Even the sentence that adorned the beginning of the novel was like this.
But—
“…The question is whether it follows the novel itself or derails.”
At this point where many things had already started to go awry, no one knew whether future events would follow the direction of the novel Dokyeom knew.
And now, it was unclear whether this place was a world built on the ‘very settings’ Dokyeom had designed, or a world that only applied ‘up to the published part.’
Depending on whether it was the former or the latter, the ending of this world would change. The problem was—
“I’ve already changed too much….”
No more Demon’s Authorities would descend in Korea. The remaining ones were Lust, Greed, Sloth, and Pride—four in total.
Two of them appeared in China, and one each in the United States and Japan. All were powerful countries with more S-rank hunters than Korea.
On the other hand, all but one of the ‘Angel’s Authorities’ descended in Northern Europe. One of them was already in Taeseongyeon’s hands—the ‘Authority of Mercy’ obtained from taking down the Second Witch.
It didn’t matter. After all, there was someone else who gathered the Angel’s Authorities. A foreigner from Northern Europe who held a high-ranking angel as his Starsign.
He would meet that person soon. As long as the ‘Authority of Mercy’ was in Taeseongyeon’s hands.
Dokyeom just had to wait for that person.
*Creak—*
The chain of thoughts was abruptly cut off as if severed by the sound from the emergency exit. Dokyeom, thinking it might be Beom Yeonhu, immediately looked toward the emergency exit.
The person pushing the door half-open was a man who blinked in surprise.
“What, it’s really you?”
Bright yellow hair from dyeing, and ears full of piercings. His face was youthful, with a decently sturdy build and broad shoulders.
It was Baek Jiun.
“What are you doing here?”
“Hyung, isn’t that too harsh? I told you I’m now a hunter for Sahyeon Guild. I heard you were coming today, so I waited, but when you didn’t show, I asked around and found you. I asked people where you were, and everyone said either the 6th or 7th floor. How come it’s all the same answer?”
“What do you want me to do about it, you bastard?”
Baek Jiun, with his glib tongue, swaggered over and plopped down next to Dokyeom. He glanced at the bulging pocket for a moment, then, apparently thirsty himself, grabbed a drink from the vending machine, popped it open, and chugged it.
“But hyung, why are you here? Where’s Yeonhu hyung?”
“Yeonhu hyung is in a contract right now.”
“What? No way. So Yeonhu hyung is joining here too? I knew it! With hyung here, where else would Yeonhu hyung go?”
Why is this guy shouting in my ear?
“Ah, shut up and tell me why you came.”
“Well, I was sorting through view counts yesterday and watched some ranking videos, and guess what—there’s a video that blew up in a short time…!”
“This bastard, the point. Huh? The point.”
“Fine, fine!”
As soon as Dokyeom raised his arm, Baek Jiun flinched and raised his own to block it. Then, seeing Dokyeom leisurely sipping his drink, he pouted and continued in a sulky tone.
“…Ah, that viral video’s owner was Ju Uiryeong, apparently.”
Surprisingly, Dokyeom said nothing. It was Baek Jiun who was making a fuss. Baek Jiun pulled out his phone, opened NewTube, searched for a video, then pressed close to Dokyeom and started playing it.
“Look, Ju Uiryeong acts all pitiful here, it’s insane, right? He’s even doing broadcasts, doing great.”
On the screen, Ju Uiryeong appeared, wearing a thin shirt. With his neat appearance and small nose and mouth, he looked good on camera.
When he turned up the volume, a prattling voice finally became audible.
*Do I really qualify as A-rank? Lately I haven’t been able to help people… I feel bad. I started being a hunter to help many people, but now I keep wondering if I’m even qualified for it. In the snowy mountains, it ended up like that because of my mistake….*
Ju Uiryeong, who had been lowering his eyes with a weak expression, bit his lip as if heartbroken. But soon he raised his eyes and prattled on pitifully.
*But I really can’t believe I did such a thing. I… don’t really remember. Since I touched the witch’s eyeball, it felt like fog, and when I entered the place where the third witch was, it felt like I was trapped underwater and then came out. I think I was bewitched by something.*
“His shield is no joke, right? Amazing, amazing.”
*I saw the video before it was deleted. After seeing that, I really… I don’t know how to apologize. I tried contacting Han Dokyeom several times… but he doesn’t answer. What should I do? I… also want to become a strong person like Han Dokyeom. How is he so strong even with such a low rank?*
“Wait, hold on… this is kind of dangerous. Hyung, did Ju Uiryeong really contact you?!”
“Would he have?”
Baek Jiun’s expression turned incredulous. Unable to continue, he muttered things like, ‘No, then… wow, this…’ and abruptly clicked into the comment section.
“This is going to make hyung get flamed. I worked so hard to boost hyung’s image… damn it!”
