“If you toss in one person, maybe we can get something done… As you can see, that bastard’s specialty is melting things. If you throw someone in, he’ll eat them without leaving even bones. So let’s do this the easy way, Hunter Han Dokyeom. Just merge. Leave only the result, and I’ll let everything go.”
“No, hyung! You can’t trust them! It’s obvious all those missing hunters are their doing! They must have been waiting inside from the start, for the gate to break and the hunters to come in!”
“…There’s one noisy guy here. As if my nerves weren’t thin enough already.”
It was their fault.
The entire situation where the strike team was stranded and Han Yuseong ended up in that state. From the beginning, the Chinese hunters must have been hiding silently inside the gate, setting traps and waiting for the gate break.
But Dokyeom didn’t know how many there were, what rank, or how they were lying in ambush.
He only vaguely guessed that there were backup troops who followed Han Yuseong into the gate. But those backup troops were S-rank.
What should he do?
He had expected danger from the start. Normally, he would have waited and observed the situation more. He should have. If it weren’t for Han Yuseong’s story.
“He’s just like that bastard. A perfect copy of the one who ran wild during this strike. Is that friend by the boss room now? If I see him, that kind of wild bastard can’t keep his own life in check, so someone has to watch him to shut him up. Let me think, who was it… The team leader got seriously injured protecting that bastard.”
“If it’s the team leader, he’s the hunter who had the weapon item. Ah… it was a difficult name.”
Weapon item. Dokyeom clenched his jaw tight.
“Ah, Han Yuseong. That was the name.”
“Oh, that bastard.”
A hunter who had been throwing knives beside Baek Jiwoon let out a short exclamation as if recalling a memory. Pretending to examine the cocoon, he added.
“I still remember him dealing with the Lamia alone until the end. Sure, it took a lot of effort to subdue it. That bastard cursed because you burned one of its eyes. But… anyway, now only a shell remains, right?”
The latter part was too quiet to reach Dokyeom.
“If the Sahyeon Guild’s friendship is so strong, then we should test it ourselves.”
Someone lowered their gaze and sat down in front of Dokyeom. It was the man who seemed to have the highest rank among them.
As he took off his mask, a smooth face was revealed. Just as his red eyes curved in a friendly manner, the man opened his mouth. Extremely gently.
“Bring that noisy friend over here.”
Dokyeom’s fist was tightly clenched. The man next to him, who had been scratching his head, let out an annoyed groan, then moved to drag Baek Jiwoon over.
“Let go, you bastards! You lawless pieces of trash following that kind of order are idiots too! Do you even get to eat with blood money?”
“This one’s just a loudmouth.”
Where Baek Jiwoon was thrown was near a grotesque monster that swelled like a cancer cell and writhed. Baek Jiwoon, sprawled on the ground, still didn’t lose his spirit. The Chinese hunter watched him calmly and signaled to his subordinate.
“What are you going to do?”
“I think he needs to see one get eaten to change his mind. Throw him in appropriately.”
“But that bastard said to hand over all of them alive if possible.”
“One is fine. As long as we hand over Taeseongyeon alive, we can kill everyone here and still make up for it.”
Taeseongyeon.
Hearing that, Dokyeom let out a hollow laugh. They were aiming for Taeseongyeon as well. Blood was already seeping from his tightly clenched fist.
Thump-
A kick landed on Baek Jiwoon’s belly. His curled body rolled across the floor and was pushed near the monster. Yet Baek Jiwoon worried about Dokyeom first, not himself. Telling him not to do anything.
“Cough…! Hyung… just stay… People… will be here soon, so just hold on until then. Hyung Agon is sharp; he’ll definitely come soon…”
So just stay still, hyung…!
It must have been a shout. From afar, Dali’s screech echoed through the spawning room. Dokyeom blinked his eyes slowly with a dark expression. Then he put strength into his empty hand.
But what can I do, Jiwoon?
In his blood-soaked grip, something heavy began to form. Dokyeom’s head was still bowed as if buried in the ground, and his drooping shoulders showed no sign of straightening. Yet, the bulging veins on the back of his tightly clenched fist told a different story.
Dokyeom looked at the inventory window trembling as if with static noise and whispered softly.
Hyung seems to have lost his mind right now.
“Cough! S-shit, kick me gently! You’re kicking a man going to his death with no sincerity!”
Before coming here, it was a good thing he had prepared a few more guns. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been able to prepare for this situation.
Just as the monster’s mouth, wide open to swallow Baek Jiwoon, was about to close, its size rivaling that of a person. From that pitch-black mouth, stinking bodily fluids dripped.
When those drops fell onto Baek Jiwoon’s bound hands and eventually melted even the tightly tied ropes,
Baek Jiwoon’s scream acted like a trigger. Dokyeom raised his arm, which had been hanging limply, and the gunshot rang out without warning.
‘[Confusion]’
Bang-!
Blood splattered after the gunshot, and Baek Jiwoon’s body was swiftly snatched and thrown far away. After tumbling across the ground, Baek Jiwoon quickly steadied himself and looked at Dokyeom, who had thrown him. Dokyeom, with his hands tied, lay face down, breathing heavily, yet stubbornly aiming his gun somewhere.
Following the gun’s aim, a hunter bleeding from a wound came into view. Baek Jiwoon’s eyes widened uncontrollably.
“Hah, hah… What is this… hah…”
As a result, the bullet grazed the Chinese hunter’s eye area. It was just a scratch, hardly a wound. Yet, Baek Jiwoon witnessed the swelling pain in the hunter’s trembling pupils.
“This… ugh, why is it so… disgusting…”
Within the dilated pupils of the hunter, murderous intent and confusion tangled. Those emotions exploded when Dokyeom pulled the trigger a second time. Bang, the fired bullet was swatted away in mid-air.
What followed immediately was a violent kick, powerful enough to rupture organs.
“Cough…!”
“Hyung…!!”
Piiii-!
Baek Jiwoon and Dali’s screams intertwined sharply. The sole of a foot slammed into Dokyeom’s stomach several times, each time sending his body flying as if breaking. Blood gushed from his burst lips.
Thump-! Thud!
“You made me feel sick… hah, what is this muck… What did you do to me… what did you do…!”
“You bastard, what are you doing! Are you trying to kill him?!”
Despite his superior’s restraint, the man kicked Dokyeom’s side with a military boot, then grabbed his bloodshot head and staggered. Gasping for breath, he scratched at his temple recklessly with wide eyes.
“My head, hah… it’s so weird I’m going crazy… Kill this bastard… please… kill him…”
Piiii-!! Piiik!!
“Shut up… hah, I said shut up…!”
The bloodshot eyes of the hunter, who had been sitting and scratching his cheeks, turned somewhere. A distance away, toward the child hanging by a leash on the wall and screeching.
Those murderous eyes swept over the child terrifyingly. The bird-like screams erupting from his gaping mouth stirred his brain.
“Anyway… hah, that’s a monster bastard too…”
Yeah, it’s a monster bastard. Even if I kill it… it’s a breed that doesn’t matter.
As soon as the decision was made, the hunter moved quickly. With spine-chilling murderous intent and a ferocious grimace like a beast, he staggered forward. Each step grew faster.
When his speed became invisible, the red-eyed hunter, who had been watching his junior with an incomprehensible gaze, heard a clicking noise. The sound of loading a gun.
“…!”
As soon as he turned his crimson eyes toward Dokyeom, he saw a faint smile on Dokyeom’s haggard face, which was coughing repeatedly.
By then, the gun was aimed at the back of the hunter running toward the child. Seeing that, the red-eyed man quickly lunged. But unfortunately, the gunshot was a step faster.
Bang-!
The bullet, shot like light, split the air and flew. Cutting through the sunlight, it exactly grazed the hunter’s neck. Blood splattered, and a long scratch flowed down the man’s neck.
That was enough. What Dokyeom wanted was not injury but a “seizure.”
As intended, the hunter collapsed as if falling, then gasped as if dying and began clawing at his neck like crazy.
“Hah, hah… what is this… what is this…!”
Scraping his neck as if to peel off his skin, the hunter’s eyes filled with terrifying rage. When those bloodshot eyes turned back, Dokyeom spat out the words.
“Don’t you dare… touch my… kid?”
“You bastard…!”
“Take his gun first!”
Yeah, you bastards.
I don’t know whose hand reached out first. By the time Dokyeom twisted his body up and pulled the trigger, a shadow had already fallen over his head-
Crunch-
Before he could even pull the trigger, his wrist was stomped on by a military boot, shattering.
