Chapter 36: Spirit Soil and Phoenix Grass

Spirit soil? Rare spirit herbs?

“Yaoyao, where did the spirit soil in your courtyard come from? Legend has it that a kind of soil rich in spiritual energy can make plants mature quickly and yield top-quality products.”

Lin Qingshan had once seen a record about spirit soil in an ancient book.

‘Could spirit soil really exist in the world?’

Lin Yaoyao hadn’t expected Lin Qingshan to be so knowledgeable as to know about spirit soil.

Before she could speak, Lin Feiyuan cut in: “Eldest Brother, the spirit soil must have been given to Yaoyao by that reclusive senior.”

Well, someone had answered for her and even made up a reason for her. Lin Yaoyao nodded in tacit agreement.

Even a useless teammate came in handy sometimes!

Lin Qingshan and the others were very curious about the spirit soil, so Lin Yaoyao invited them all to her courtyard to take a look.

Lin Xiaotian was frail, and the others wanted to persuade him to go back to his own courtyard first. But he insisted on seeing the spirit soil, so they couldn’t very well stop him.

In Lin Yaoyao’s opinion, Brother Xi had spent all day in bed; it would be better for him to move around a bit.

“Brother Xi rarely comes to my courtyard. I’m more than happy to have him!”

Strangely enough, as soon as Lin Xiaotian entered Lin Yaoyao’s courtyard, his whole body felt relaxed and much more comfortable. His complexion improved too.

The ordinary flowers and plants in the courtyard had all been replaced by spirit herbs and spiritual medicines.

The yard had turned into a field of medicinal herbs, bursting with life.

“Wow! So many spirit herbs!”

Lin Feiyuan was stunned by the glittering sight. Every plant in the courtyard was giving off spiritual energy.

Cloud-mist grass radiated pure spiritual energy. Now Lin Feiyuan knew his sister hadn’t lied to him. Her courtyard was full of cloud-mist grass everywhere.

Lin Yaoyao hadn’t expected this scene either. These past days she had been in closed-door cultivation, leaving the spirit soil in Chunyu’s care.

In the daytime, the spirit soil looked like ordinary soil. But at night under the moonlight, its spiritual energy became visible.

No wonder Lin Xiaotian felt much better. It must be the spiritual energy from the spirit soil at work.

“That’s phoenix grass!”

Lin Qingshan pointed to a plant glowing with red light not far away and exclaimed in amazement.

Phoenix grass had disappeared for hundreds of years. It was rumored to have the power to mend broken bones.

Lin Yaoyao wasn’t sure if that was really phoenix grass. She could only twirl her bracelet and ask the system to identify it.

“System, is this phoenix grass? Can it heal Eldest Brother’s leg?”

The system still had that sweet, coquettish voice: [Host, I have good news and bad news. Which one do you want to hear first?]

Lin Yaoyao was speechless. Was this a proper system? Could she exchange it for a better one?

“Stupid system, just answer my question. Why are you being so mysterious?”

The system didn’t get annoyed and replied in the same sweet voice.

[Host, the good news is that it’s phoenix grass. The bad news is that it can’t heal your eldest brother’s leg.]

Lin Yaoyao refused to give up and pressed: “Since it’s phoenix grass, why can’t it heal my eldest brother’s leg?”

The system replied: [Your eldest brother’s leg was injured by baleful energy. No medicine can heal it, except a Restoration Pill. A Restoration Pill costs three hundred thousand points in the shop. Host, please keep working hard!]

Lin Yaoyao sighed. She knew Eldest Brother must have thought phoenix grass could heal his leg.

“Yaoyao, what are you spacing out about? Eldest Brother is talking to you.”

Lin Feiyuan gave her a gentle push, and Lin Yaoyao ended her conversation with the system, returning to her senses.

“This… is phoenix grass!”

Lin Qingshan immediately had someone push him to the other side so he could get closer to the phoenix grass.

“That’s right! This really is phoenix grass!”

Seeing how happy Lin Qingshan looked, Lin Yaoyao couldn’t bear to shatter his hopes. She bent down, plucked a spirit-link grass, and handed it to Lin Xiaotian.

“Brother Xi, this spirit-link grass can strengthen the body. Have someone boil it and drink it.”

Lin Xiaotian felt so comfortable in body and mind that he didn’t even need help walking.

He had been weak since childhood. The doctor said he couldn’t withstand the wind, so he wasn’t allowed outside.

Over time, he stayed in his room every day, lying in bed, and his health got worse rather than better.

With nothing else to do during his illness, his father Lin Xuanzhong had found him books to pass the time, so Lin Xiaotian kept company with books day and night.

Lin Xiaotian had seen all the spirit herbs in Lin Yaoyao’s courtyard in medical books.

“Thousand-leaf fruit!”

“Candle spirit flower!”

“Cloud-mist grass!”

Lin Xiaotian rattled off names. Lin Yaoyao hadn’t expected Brother Xi, who never set foot outside the house, to recognize such rare herbs.

Lin Feiyuan followed behind Lin Xiaotian, testing him by pointing at plants now and then.

Lin Xiaotian answered fluently, knowing everything from names to effects. Lin Feiyuan was stunned and full of admiration.

“I didn’t think a bookworm like you would know so much!”

Lin Xiaotian’s ears turned red at the praise, and his face grew even ruddier. He smiled and said, “You little crybaby, you should cry less and read more.”

In Lin Yaoyao’s memory, Brother Xi had always been a sickly weakling. His frail body had made him gloomy and withdrawn.

She never imagined he could be so lively and cheerful, even daring to mock Lin Feiyuan, that powder keg and crybaby, to his face.

Brother Xi was awesome!

The spiritual energy from the spirit soil was good for Brother Xi’s health. Lin Yaoyao suddenly thought she could exchange some spirit soil from the system shop and put it in Lin Xiaotian’s courtyard.

Two handsome young men and a pretty young girl, chatting and laughing. Lin Qingshan saw the scene and smiled unconsciously.

Lin Yaoyao felt a little guilty under Lin Qingshan’s gentle gaze and didn’t dare meet his eyes.

“Yaoyao!”

What was coming had come after all.

Eldest Brother Lin Qingshan stopped her and asked if he could pick a phoenix grass.

Lin Yaoyao nodded. Of course he could. Whatever spirit herbs he wanted from the courtyard, he could pick them anytime.

Lin Qingshan picked a phoenix grass nearby and tucked it carefully into his lapel, afraid of damaging it.

Spirit herbs and medicines could be sold for money! The great families especially loved collecting rare ones.

A single cloud-mist grass was worth fifty thousand spirit stones. Thousand-leaf fruit, candle spirit flower, Tongxuan grass, and phoenix grass were all worth a fortune. At an auction, they’d certainly fetch a good price.

With the spirit herbs from Lin Yaoyao’s courtyard, it seemed there was hope to make up for the treasury deficit.

“With this spirit soil, we won’t be driven out of the Lin family.”

Lin Feiyuan put his arm around Lin Yaoyao’s shoulder, looking relaxed, completely forgetting the whippings he’d taken.

Lin Yaoyao knew that this was far from enough for ten billion spirit stones.

Spirit herbs grown in spirit soil needed at least ten days to mature, and the rarer the herb, the longer the growth cycle.

Selling herbs alone made it difficult to collect ten billion spirit stones within three months. She had to find another way.

Lin Yaoyao knitted her brows, deep in thought.

“Yaoyao, take this.”

Lin Xiaotian handed her a beautiful storage ring. It was the spirit stones he had saved up.

No matter what, Lin Yaoyao refused to accept it. So tonight, both Eldest Brother and Brother Xi had come to give her spirit stones.
