Chapter 42: A Faint Worth Two Million Spirit Stones

“Ouch!”

Zeng Old Madam clutched her forehead, closed her eyes, and slowly toppled into the arms of a plump old mammy beside her.

Lin Yaoyao stepped up for a look, then shook her head in disdain.

‘Who was she trying to fool? If she really fainted, she would have hit the floor. What a scheming old lotus, faking a faint at her age!’

“Old Madam, Old Madam! You were already ill. If you forced yourself out here and something went wrong, how would I answer to the Family Head?”

The mammy shouted at the top of her voice, afraid no one would notice her mistress had collapsed.

The moment Zeng Old Madam fell, the onlookers’ sympathy tipped as well.

“Did the Zeng Old Madam get hounded to death by them?”

“They came collecting a debt and killed someone! This is huge!”

People pointed at Lin Yaoyao and the others, saying all sorts of things. Everyone blamed the old lady’s collapse on them.

Lin Feiyuan shouted, “What does the old lady fainting have to do with us? She’s just frail!”

Before he finished speaking, he drew even more criticism.

“They already returned your things! Why are you still here!”

Public opinion now stood entirely with the Zeng estate. The more Lin Feiyuan explained, the more the crowd turned against him.

The old mammy’s mouth curled slightly, and a sly glint flashed in her eyes. She turned to help Zeng Old Madam back inside.

“Mammy, hold on!”

Lin Yaoyao stepped forward, blocking the mammy’s way.

The old mammy froze, backed up half a step, and asked warily, “What do you want?”

Lin Yaoyao’s almond eyes curved into half-moons, and two small dimples appeared on her fair cheeks. She looked sweet and charming.

“Mammy, Zeng Old Madam is advanced in years. She’s been struck by a rush of anger. She must not be moved right now, or she might die on the spot.”

The mammy gave her a cold sneer, nostrils raised, and answered stiffly.

“I’ve served the Old Madam by her side for years. Her care is for the estate physician to handle. An outsider like you needn’t trouble yourself.”

‘Trying to leave? Not that easy!’

Lin Yaoyao planted herself in front of her, refusing to budge.

“Mammy, you’re mistaken. Since the Old Madam fainted over our affairs, we juniors will take responsibility for her. I happened to learn a secret technique from a hidden master, and I can wake her in an instant.”

This piqued the crowd’s curiosity. What kind of technique was so miraculous?

The old mammy refused at all costs, clutching Zeng Old Madam tightly to keep Lin Yaoyao away.

The more she resisted, the more certain Lin Yaoyao was that Zeng Old Madam was only pretending.

“Everyone, be the judge! I have a technique that can wake her, yet this wily servant is blocking me, letting the Old Madam die before her very eyes!”

The crowd started cursing the mammy again. She ignored them all, keeping her mouth shut as she helped Zeng Old Madam back toward the estate.

“Third Brother, Senior Brother Gu!”

Lin Yaoyao waved her hand and called out. Lin Feiyuan and Gu Mingchun exchanged a glance and understood at once.

Lin Feiyuan shoved the old mammy aside. Gu Mingchun grabbed Zeng Old Madam. The two of them hoisted the old lady between them.

Zeng Old Madam kept her eyes shut and her expression pained, not daring to move as the two strapping young men carried her aloft.

“What are you doing?”

The old mammy rushed to take her back, but she was no match for two tall young men. She couldn’t get close and could only stamp her feet on the sideline.

“Good folks, please bear witness. The Old Madam has fainted, and her life may be in danger if she isn’t treated at once. Her condition comes from blocked heart energy. As the saying goes, the ten fingers are connected to the heart, so I’ll pierce her ten fingers with a steel needle to drain the blood.”

Lin Yaoyao snuck a glance at Zeng Old Madam, held fast between Lin Feiyuan and Gu Mingchun. Sweat was beading on the old lady’s cheeks, and her lips had gone pale.

“System, exchange for the thickest steel needle!”

In an instant, a gleaming steel needle appeared in her hand.

“Ah! That thick!”

The crowd gasped. They had never seen a needle like the one in the girl’s hand.

“What is that? So sharp!”

Lin Feiyuan had long since stopped being surprised. It was surely a gift from that hidden senior.

“Third Brother, Senior Brother Gu, hold the Old Madam steady. This needle will punch a bloody hole with every stab, but don’t worry. Once the stagnant blood is drained, she’ll wake up naturally.”

Lin Yaoyao waved the needle before Zeng Old Madam’s eyes, then reached for the old lady’s hand.

‘Ice cold!’

The instant she touched it, Lin Yaoyao bit her lip to keep from laughing.

The old lady’s hand was trembling, twitching in little jerks. How was that not funny?

Lin Yaoyao raised the needle and swung it fiercely toward Zeng Old Madam’s hand.

Whoosh. The needle hadn’t even landed.

Zeng Old Madam’s eyes flew open. Her body recoiled, and she snatched her hand back.

The crowd exploded. “Amazing! Truly amazing! She’s awake! A miracle doctor!”

The old mammy hurried over and supported her. A servant passed over a cane for the Old Madam to lean on.

Zeng Old Madam frowned deeply, still shaken by how close her fingers had come to being pierced.

‘To suffer such torment at her age. Truly, a family misfortune!’

“Old Madam, are you all right now? If you’re still unwell, this junior is glad to help. A free jab on the house!”

Lin Yaoyao stroked the needle in her hand, her almond eyes curved into a smile as she leaned in.

That was not a smile. It was a knife hidden behind a smile, and it radiated cold. Zeng Old Madam turned her face away, grumbling under her breath.

“Our Old Madam needs to rest. We wouldn’t trouble you further.”

The mammy took Zeng Old Madam’s arm, ready to return to the estate.

“Since the Old Madam is well, this junior will speak plainly. The note specifies three percent monthly interest, which over three years comes to at least three million spirit stones. Out of respect for the Old Madam, the Zeng estate may pay two million, and the note will be returned on the spot.”

Two million spirit stones?

Lin Feiyuan swallowed. Yaoyao certainly had a big appetite. The question was whether the Zeng estate could actually produce that much.

Zeng Old Madam fell back on her old trick. She pressed her forehead and knit her brows.

“This old body is unwell. The Family Head isn’t here today. Discuss the interest with him once he returns.”

Lin Yaoyao smiled. “Fine! But I’ll say this up front. Pay two million today, and it’s settled. Delay until another day, and we’ll take this to the government office and collect every coin the note requires, not one less.”

Whether to pay today or later, that was for the Old Madam to decide.

Zeng Old Madam stood frozen on the spot. Having lived so long, she was now backed into a corner by a girl of fifteen or sixteen.

“This…”

Ding-dong. A familiar sound rang by Lin Yaoyao’s ear. It was the system’s voice.

[Host, a piece of Xuanling Wood has been discovered!]
