Join the ServerLin Mo walked through the forest for a while, a faint blush still lingering on her face. Pouting crossly, she plucked at the wild flowers in her hands.
That stinky Mo Jin sure knew how to bully her! The betrothal gift had clearly been given, yet Mo Jin just had to insist it was a dowry. It wasn’t a dowry at all; what she gave was a betrothal gift!
She was almost driven crazy by her own foolishness. She should have retorted right then and there! It was so embarrassing that she had actually turned and run away like that.
However, even though she had fled, her heart couldn’t help but beat faster whenever she recalled Mo Jin kissing her.
Mo Jin must like her too, right? If Mo Jin didn’t like her, she wouldn’t have kissed her.
Since that was the case, whether it was a betrothal gift or a dowry didn’t seem to matter all that much anymore.
Hmph, whatever! Either way, I’m definitely going to be the one on top!
Lin Mo’s mood brightened considerably. She stretched her body comfortably, turning around to head back.
“Teacher, please wait for us!”
It was She Bai’s voice.
Lin Mo halted her steps and turned around to look. A large group of lynxes was running toward her house, carrying bright red wild fruits.
In the blink of an eye, She Bai sprinted up to her first.
Wiping the beads of sweat from his forehead, She Bai panted heavily, “Teacher, these are the fruits we picked.”
He had gathered the lynx clan members early in the morning to pick wild fruits in the place the little lynxes often mentioned. After busying themselves for the entire morning, they had finally gathered most of them. He was still feeling anxious internally, unsure whether these fruits could be exchanged for enough wild rabbits.
The clan chief was still a bit worried, so he led a few clan members out to hunt while sending She Bai to check on the situation first.
Having just emerged from the wild woods, She Bai was covered in dirt from head to toe, and parts of his fur were drenched in dew and fruit juice, making him look quite disheveled.
Lin Mo’s gaze swept over the pile, her jaw dropping in astonishment. With so many wild fruits, did they move the entire mountain over here?
The little lynx cub wagged its long tail, adopting a flattering expression. “Teacher, can we continue using these wild fruits to exchange for wild rabbits?”
So they wanted wild rabbits! Was her chance to make a fortune coming again?
Lin Mo was overjoyed on the inside, though she kept a calm expression on the outside. “I need to check them first. All of you, put these fruits in my courtyard for now. Be gentle with your movements and don’t damage the fruits.”
The group of lynxes rushed over in a swarm, placing the fruits in the courtyard before lining up in a straight row, looking somewhat like troops waiting for an inspection.
Lin Mo felt a bit embarrassed, but she quickly composed herself. She assigned a small task to the little lynx cub, asking it to sort out the fully intact and ripe fruits. Then, with the help of the other lynxes, they categorized the good fruits by size—large, medium, and small—into three separate piles.
The lynxes worked with soaring enthusiasm in the yard. Midway through supervising, Lin Mo felt a bit thirsty, so she stepped into the house to rest for a moment.
The moment she pushed the wooden door open, the scene inside was laid bare.
Mo Jin sat on a chair drinking water, her back straight and her posture serene.
A chubby, large turtle was propped up on a chair, idly waving its four tiny paws.
Two cups rested on the table, with steam rising from the second one, making it seem as though someone had just been sitting there drinking tea a moment ago.
Yet, the only one sitting in that spot was a large turtle!
Lin Mo furrowed her brow. What’s going on here?
Shouldn’t Mo Jin be interrogating the thieving turtle? Why did it look like she was hosting a tea party for it instead?
She peeked at the wooden basin, only to find it completely empty. Was this large turtle so formidable that even Mo Jin was no match for it?
Turning sideways, she walked over to Mo Jin’s side, lowered her head, and whispered in a hushed tone, “Is this big turtle really tough to fight? If you can’t beat him, just blink.”
Mo Jin didn’t blink. Instead, her lips curled into a gentle smile, and she poured a cup of tea for Lin Mo.
Lin Mo grew anxious. “What are you laughing at?”
She was worrying about Mo Jin so much, yet she was getting laughed at instead. She wasn’t happy at all.
“Hahaha, this is killing me!” The large turtle on the opposite chair suddenly transformed into a tiny old man, slumping back against the chair as he laughed so hard his beard trembled.
Lin Mo took a startled step backward. Composing herself, she looked closely and realized that this was Angonoka—the large turtle that used to be the red panda’s neighbor back at the zoo!
Seeing Lin Mo startled, Mo Jin’s tone turned chilly: “Didn’t I tell you not to transform into a human in front of her?”
The little old man stroked his beard, smiling warmly. “This little bamboo shoot is far too amusing! I just couldn’t control myself. In all my long years of living as a turtle, this is the first time I’ve met such a hilarious kid. Truly delightful!”
“Kid, my name is Angonoka. I was the red panda’s neighbor back at the zoo. Did the red panda ever introduce me to you?”
The old man hopped down from the chair, deliberately strolling a circle right in front of Lin Mo.
Lin Mo kept her face expressionless, rolling her eyes. “She never introduced you, but I know what you are now.”
Curiosity piqued, the old man craned his neck and leaned in to ask, “What do you know?”
“An old, thieving turtle.”
The old man felt as though an arrow had pierced right through his heart.
Where was he old? Why did the red panda say he was old, and now the little bamboo shoot was calling him old too? He was clearly still a handsome, dashing turtle!
The little old man’s face flushed red. Turning his head away, he muttered, “Nonsense! This turtle isn’t old at all. Among turtles, I’m still considered young!”
“Then what about…” Lin Mo sat down on the chair next to Mo Jin, picking up her teacup as she spoke in a light tone.
“This turtle will not admit to that! I came out to look for my lost grandsons. How can that be considered stealing? Either way, I didn’t steal anything!”
“Alright then. But since I cared for them, shouldn’t you thank me?”
Lin Mo gently blew on the steam rising from her cup, taking a slow sip as her gaze drifted toward the little old man from the corner of her eye.
The little old man hesitated, casting a distress signal toward Mo Jin.
The corners of Mo Jin’s lips curled up slightly, and she shook her head gently at the old man.
The red panda really forgets her friends once she gets a little wife!
The little old man pouted, muttering grumpily, “The two of you sure know how to team up and bully a poor turtle.”
Lin Mo rested her chin on her hand, her eyes curving into sweet crescents. “Looking after your little turtles for an entire night counts as bullying you? Who would dare to do good deeds in the future then?”
The old man was left completely speechless.
Lin Mo wagged a finger in front of the old man. “However, I happen to be a good person who likes doing good deeds. If you don’t want to express your thanks, forget it. Just consider it my good deed for the day.”
The old man had been on guard, but hearing this made him think he had genuinely offended someone. He hurriedly held Lin Mo back, saying, “A thank-you is still necessary!”
A flash of cunning glinted in Lin Mo’s eyes as she slowly drank the remaining tea in her cup. “Very well. I haven’t thought of what I want from you yet, so you can just owe me for now.”
The old man let out a breath of relief; he hadn’t brought anything with him when he left home anyway.
Lin Mo asked curiously, “Aren’t you supposed to be at the zoo? How did you end up on this small, deserted island?”
“The zoo’s benefits aren’t as good as before. My food quality dropped, and they kept trying to fool me with overnight grass. I thought it over and ran out on my own. It’s so wonderful out here now—endless fresh, juicy green grass to eat, sweet spring water everywhere. Life is utterly delightful!”
“So that’s how you lost all those little turtles?”
The old man was instantly rendered speechless with embarrassment. Sitting back down on the chair, he gulped down a large mouthful of cold water.
A knocking sound echoed from the wooden door, and She Bai’s voice came from outside.
“Teacher, everything has been sorted!”
“I’ll be out in a moment.”
Lin Mo crossed her hands on the table, turning around to say, “I’m going out to help the lynxes sell some fruits. I’ll be back shortly.”
Mo Jin gave a subtle nod.
Lin Mo stood up and turned to leave, but her wrist was gently caught by Mo Jin.
Lin Mo’s heart skipped a beat. Turning her head, she asked softly, “What is it?”
Mo Jin looked at Lin Mo without saying a word, her grip on Lin Mo’s hand remaining firm.
Lin Mo’s heart melted. Clingy so soon, are we?
Lin Mo bent down, stroked Mo Jin’s head, and leaned close to her ear, saying gently, “Be good, okay? I’ll be back in just a little bit.”
Mo Jin still refused to let go.
Lin Mo turned her palm to hold Mo Jin’s hand instead, asking softly, “Then… how about I bring you along?”
Mo Jin nodded.
“Ahem, a big, living turtle is still sitting right across from you two, you know.” The old man sat opposite them, his tiny green eyes darting back and forth as he feigned a cough.
Mo Jin tilted her head, casting a cool glance at the old man.
The old man pulled his neck back, hurriedly looking left and right. He felt like one of those bright, glowing lightbulbs humans often talked about.
Lin Mo tightened her grip on Mo Jin’s hand, a faint blush blooming across her face as she pulled Mo Jin out the wooden door.
She Bai had been waiting at the entrance. Seeing the two of them come out, he immediately followed them and pointed out the sorted fruits to Lin Mo.
“Teacher, look! All the fruits are over there.”
The little lynx cub ran over, wagging its long tail. Spotting their intertwined hands, its eyes lit up instantly. “Did you two become partners?”
Being stared at unblinkingly by the little lynx cub made Lin Mo feel rather shy. She tried to gently release Mo Jin’s hand, but Mo Jin held on tight, refusing to let go.
Lin Mo looked a bit dazed, turning her head to look at Mo Jin’s side profile, which was as serene and cool as the moonlight.
Mo Jin cast a faint glance back at Lin Mo, a subtle smile hidden in the depths of her eyes, resembling the warm spring sun melting away the winter ice and snow.
Lin Mo lowered her head bashfully, the tips of her ears burning hot.
She Bai failed to notice, rubbing the little lynx cub’s head instead. “What nonsense are you talking about?”
“I saw both teachers holding hands! Didn’t the High Priest say that if you see young people in the clan walking hand in hand, it means they’ve become partners?” The little lynx cub blinked, tugging at She Bai’s hide shirt. “Brother She Bai, we should be offering our congratulations!”
As soon as those words landed, the eyes of She Bai and the rest of the lynxes turned in unison toward their joined hands.
“Congratulations!” the lynxes said in chorus.
She Bai’s eyes sparkled. “Teachers, since you’re preparing to become partners, are you planning to hold a bonding ceremony to receive the blessing of the Heavenly God? If you need help, our clan’s High Priest would be more than willing to assist. We’d also love to attend your bonding ceremony!”
Lin Mo’s face turned bright red. “I’ll ask the High Priest about that myself later. Right now, let’s focus on helping you sell the wild fruits first.”
“Alright!”
Lin Mo took down the bee robot, bought packaging boxes from the official site, and had everyone pack the fruits according to their three quality tiers. Once packaged, they listed them directly for sale in the store.
In less than an hour, all the wild fruits were completely sold out.
She took a moment to check the customer comments. Most expressed that the goods were cheap and high-quality, but the supply was far too small, urging the streamer to stock up more. Another portion complained bitterly about the streamer not going live for a long time.
Lin Mo felt a bit guilty, even though she had just streamed yesterday. Since she had other things to attend to later, she sold a small portion of the vegetables grown in her yard along with the fruits.
Lin Mo purchased several cartloads of rabbit meat from the official site and distributed them among the lynxes.
Afterward, she and Mo Jin headed together toward the battlefield where the demon beast races used to fight frequently.
