Chapter 37: A Restorative Night and an Unexpected Overload

The old Lynx Patriarch paused as the words reached the tip of his tongue, taking a roundabout approach instead: “I’ll take the initiative to gift this elk head to you first. I’ll head back right now to inform the High Priest. She Yuan, take a few lynxes to help them with some work. The rest of you, follow me back to carry this elk first. As for selling all the elk heads to you, I can’t make that decision on my own; I still need to discuss it properly with the High Priest.”

Lin Mo thanked the old Lynx Patriarch. Watching him depart through narrowed eyes, she sighed inwardly at how clever this old lynx was—it seemed he truly wouldn’t release his hawk until he saw the hare.

Lin Mo called a few lynxes over to help turn the soil over, mixing the organic fertilizer with the wheat straw and spreading it evenly across the thousand-square-meter area she had planned out in advance. Every hundred square meters was planted with a single type of vegetation. Lin Mo first noted the location of each plant, then watered them in unison. Testing it with her spiritual energy, she was surprised to find that every single plant managed to sprout successfully.

Setting aside the immature tree saplings, Lin Mo harvested the mature wheatgrass, alfalfa, and timothy grass, piling them into three haystacks. Since it was inconvenient to transport them back home, she asked She Yuan to help guard them overnight, paying She Yuan a reward of one wild rabbit per day.

After a long, exhausting day of labor, Lin Mo’s back ached and her waist was sore, her walking speed noticeably slowing down.

Dinner was prepared by Mo Jin. Lin Mo quickly finished her meal, took a bath, pushed open the wooden door, and slumped straight onto the bed.

Her bones felt completely scattered anyway, her hands as soft as noodles, leaving her with zero desire to move.

Mo Jin shut the door, sat down by the edge of the bed, pulled the blanket over Lin Mo, and stroked her head softly. “Did you wear yourself out today?”

Lin Mo barely managed to lift an arm, answering listlessly, “Of course I did. Planting such a huge plot of land in a single day—even an old farmer doesn’t work as hard as me! If I were an ordinary human, I wouldn’t even have the energy to speak by now. Still, after tilling so much land today, I feel like I’ve gotten much more proficient at wielding spiritual energy.”

In this world, Lin Mo was probably the only person who practiced controlling spiritual energy by farming.

Mo Jin gently kneaded Lin Mo’s shoulders, injecting a bit of spiritual energy into her body, and spoke in a tender voice: “These things aren’t accomplished in a single day, so there’s no need to rush. The academy internship has no set time limit; just take it slow.”

“Mm, I know. I’ll slow down in the future. Today I just wanted to run a test,” Lin Mo patted Mo Jin’s hand, feeling much better physically. She shifted her head, lying down right beside Mo Jin. “By the way, where did Angonoka go? How come I didn’t see him tonight?”

“He’s probably taken the little turtles out to play.”

Mo Jin pulled Lin Mo into her arms, letting her rest her head on her arm so she could sleep more comfortably.

“Alright then.”

Lin Mo squinted, spotting the bamboo stalk resting on the table. “Why haven’t you eaten the bamboo?”

“I’ve been busy and forgot to eat.”

Hearing this, Lin Mo instantly perked up. She had another chance to feed the panda!

“Then how about I feed it to you?”

Mo Jin cast a faint glance at Lin Mo, instantly seeing right through her little scheme.

Lin Mo curled up meekly in Mo Jin’s arms, blinking her eyes with a aggrieved, pitiable expression.

Mo Jin’s heart softened. “Go fetch it.”

Lin Mo’s eyes lit up, and she happily scrambled out of Mo Jin’s arms. Running over to the bedside to grab the bamboo, she knelt on the bed with a face full of anticipation. “Can you transform into a panda so I can feed you?”

Mo Jin remained silent, staring straight at Lin Mo.

She knew all too well that Lin Mo just wanted to touch her ears and rub her face.

Being stared at like that made Lin Mo’s heart beat nervously. Gathering her courage, she bent down and gently pressed a kiss onto Mo Jin’s forehead.

Mo Jin hadn’t expected Lin Mo to kiss her so suddenly. Her heart rate surged, the tips of her ears turned scalding hot, and she accidentally slipped right into her beast form.

Eek, how did she suddenly turn into a giant panda?

The giant panda’s ears were black, so Lin Mo couldn’t tell that Mo Jin was actually blushing and had transformed out of embarrassment.

She knelt in front of the giant panda, holding the emerald-green bamboo stalk to the panda’s mouth. The giant panda opened her mouth, biting off a chunk of bamboo with a sharp crunch, eating with immense delight.

Lin Mo casually stroked the giant panda’s ears, gazing into those eyes filled with starlight, feeling a profound sense of satisfaction in her heart. How wonderful it would be if she could feed the panda bamboo every single day!

Once the giant panda finished the bamboo, however, she didn’t transform back into human form. Instead, she collapsed onto the bed as if she were utterly intoxicated.

This bamboo stalk contained far too much spiritual energy. Mo Jin hadn’t noticed while eating, but only after finishing did she realize that the spiritual energy packed inside was enough to burst her inner core to the brink of explosion. She could only desperately guide the wild, surge-like tide of spiritual energy running through her, attempting to expand and repair the meridians within her body again and again.

Not knowing what was happening, Lin Mo stroked the giant panda’s head and asked anxiously, “Mo Jin, what’s wrong? Are you okay?”

The giant panda lying on the bed gave no response. Instead, she raised her two bear paws to tightly clutch her head, curling her body into a ball with an expression of extreme pain and intense discomfort.

Lin Mo realized there must be an issue with the bamboo. That was why Mo Jin turned like this right after eating it. Yet whenever Mo Jin ate her bamboo leaves before, everything had gone smoothly without her showing such agony.

What on earth is happening right now?

Lin Mo had no time to think further. She hurriedly tried to use her hands to massage the giant panda’s head, but the panda pushed her away time after time. In the end, Lin Mo pulled the giant panda tightly into her arms. Only then did the panda’s expression lose some of its agony, gradually settling down.

Lin Mo didn’t know whether this state was good or bad. Suddenly, she recalled how she had previously used her spiritual energy to treat the little lynx cub’s brother.

She applied those same methods to Mo Jin. Peering into Mo Jin’s body, she used the spiritual energy in her hands to gently guide the wild surge. To her surprise, the moment the two streams of spiritual energy touched, they merged together. The wild, uncontrollable energy suddenly settled down under Lin Mo’s guidance.

Lin Mo split her spiritual energy into several fine strands, slowly channeling them into the various meridians within Mo Jin’s body. Working through the entire night, she finally managed to untangle and smooth out that massive mass of spiritual energy.

As daybreak approached, Lin Mo collapsed onto the bed from sheer exhaustion and fell fast asleep.

Beside her, the giant panda’s body gradually shrank in size, steadily turning into a small panda.
