Chapter 30: A Continuous Supply Chain

Lin Mo took the little tortoises, placed them safely inside a water basin, and turned around to grab two pieces of candy, handing them to the little Lynx cub. “Have some of this first.”

The Lynx cub had never eaten candy before. It glanced curiously at the candy in its hand, and without even tearing off the wrapper, swallowed it whole like a wolf gulping down a date.

Lin Mo could only press a hand to her forehead in resignation. Alright, she hadn’t expected a young monster to be as clever as a human child and know that the wrapper had to be peeled off before eating the candy.

She demonstrated personally in front of the Lynx cub, peeling off a wrapper and tossing the candy into her mouth. She chewed it with a loud crunch, the sweet, fruity hard candy tasting delightfully sugary.

Tilting its head, the Lynx cub pinched the remaining piece of candy in its hand. It imitated Lin Mo’s movements, clumsily tearing off the wrapper, and stuffed the candy into its mouth.

Its sharp teeth bit through the candy with a loud crunch, shattering it into several pieces. With a sweep of its tongue, it swallowed everything down into its stomach.

After finishing, the Lynx cub blinked its large, amber eyes, staring at Lin Mo without blinking.

Lin Mo smiled slightly and asked, “Do you want more?”

The Lynx cub nodded vigorously; it had never eaten anything so delicious.

A stroke of inspiration hit Lin Mo, and she suddenly thought of an idea. The wild berries she had eaten last time tasted excellent. Once the season passed, the wild berries would naturally fall and rot away. If they could be sold, it would bring in some income, which could then be used to purchase supplies.

Lin Mo shook the candies inside the jar, using an enticing tone to coax it, “Are there still wild berries like the ones you picked last time? If you can bring more over, I can give you all of these candies.”

The Lynx cub’s eyes instantly lit up. Thumping its chest, it said, “There are still plenty! There is a huge patch of wild berries over there.”

“Then go on. Be careful not to damage the fruit when you pick them, otherwise you won’t get any candy at all,” Lin Mo instructed.

The Lynx cub bounded away happily.

“Do you like eating wild berries that much?”

Lin Mo froze, shaking her head to explain, “No, it’s not that I particularly like eating wild berries. I just feel it’s a pity if they rot in the forest. It’s better to sell them and earn some money.”

Mo Jin did not press any further, picking up her knife to continue carving.

Before long, the Lynx cub returned cradling a large heap of wild fruits wrapped in an animal hide. Inside, besides the red wild berries, there were also black wild mulberries. Not only were they large, plump, and thick-fleshed, but they also carried a rich, fragrant fruit aroma and looked beautiful.

Lin Mo picked up a wild mulberry and tasted it. The sweet and sour juice melted in her mouth, tasting incredibly sweet and refreshing.

Lin Mo fetched the little Bee Robot from the kitchen and positioned it to shoot the fruits spread out on the animal hide.

The number of people watching the livestream on the official website had remained quite high. Many people had missed out on the six peaches Lin Mo sold earlier because their hands were too slow, so they stayed camped on the official website, hoping Lin Mo would log back on to sell peaches again.

Lin Mo showed her face on camera to explain, “These fruits were all picked by the Lynx cub. I just wanted to show them to everyone; I haven’t switched favorites! These are all wild fruits and taste very sweet. If you need any, you can buy them directly from the shop.”

Lin Mo packed all the wild fruits picked by the Lynx cub into boxes and listed them in the seller system at a price of 50 Shells per box. She sold twenty boxes in total, earning a grand total of 1000 Shells.

She gave a box of candy to the Lynx cub, and additionally bought two live rabbits from the Mall to give to it as well.

The Lynx cub was bewildered. “Why give me rabbits?”

Having made money, Lin Mo’s eyebrows danced with joy. “This is your payment. If you pick fruits and bring them over tomorrow, I’ll give you more.”

The Lynx cub bounded away happily, cradling the box of candy and the two wild rabbits.

Mo Jin silently shook her head, blew the wood shavings off the piece of wood, and said calmly, “You’re too soft-hearted.”

Lin Mo turned her head in surprise. “I purely just wanted to help out, and besides, it’s very pitiful. We can’t just watch it starve to death, can we?”

“Did you forget that the Lynx cub was contracted by me?”

Lin Mo was temporarily at a loss for words; she seemed to have forgotten about that.

“With me around, it won’t starve to death.”

“But it’s very thin,” Lin Mo complained.

She felt that Mo Jin was definitely the least attentive when it came to raising pets. As long as the pet didn’t starve to death, she wouldn’t play with or amuse it. But then again, Mo Jin was a giant panda herself, so she didn’t really need to keep any little pets.

Mo Jin said calmly, “Come here.”

Lin Mo walked over and saw an exquisitely beautiful wooden hairpin in Mo Jin’s hand.

Eh? Is it a gift for her?

“Turn around.”

Lin Mo obediently turned around. A hand brushed past the back of her neck, gently gathering her hair. Fingers deftly manipulated a few strands of hair, quickly braiding them into a flower shape, and slanted the hairpin through the bun.

Lin Mo turned her neck a bit, instantly feeling much cooler and refreshed. It had been quite inconvenient having her hair loose while cooking earlier.

Lin Mo felt a wave of warmth in her heart. So she had been carving for so long just to give her a hairpin.

When the little Lynx cub returned to the valley where the lynxes lived, She Bai had already returned with the young and prime tribesmen, every single one of them looking covered in dirt and thoroughly disheveled.

They hadn’t even managed to hunt a single elk.

With a long face, She Bai sat on the boulder right in the center, burying his head deeply between his knees.

They hadn’t caught any food for several days. If this continued, the entire Lynx clan would face a severe survival crisis, and the cubs might not even survive the winter.

During the hunt today, the Lion tribesmen they encountered had all been arrogant and overbearing. They had caught two large elk today; with so much fat and meat, they would definitely have a feast upon their return.

In contrast, the lynxes naturally lacked the physical advantage of the Lion tribe and were not skilled at hunting large herbivores. Their ancestors had always hunted wild rabbits, but now wild rabbits were few and far between—forget about a rabbit, they couldn’t even see a single strand of rabbit fur.

Having not eaten their fill for days, their speed and endurance during the hunt had dropped significantly. Even She Bai himself couldn’t help but want to lose his temper. After the hunt failed, two young lynxes had even directly come to blows.

She Bai let out a long sigh and prepared to stand up to rally their spirits again, but looking down, he suddenly noticed the little Lynx cub beside him.

She Bai reached out to pat the cub’s head. “Where did you go to play today? Are you hungry? I still have a bundle of earthworms dug up by the river here, take them to eat.”

This was She Bai’s dinner. He had intended to eat it himself, but seeing the Lynx cub’s scrawny frame, he pulled the bundle of earthworms out.

The Lynx cub shook its head, pulling out colorful candies from its bosom, its eyes shining brightly. “Brother She Bai, I’ll give you candies to eat! I got a lot of candies today. We’ll eat half, and leave the remaining half for my brother and the Tribal Chief Grandpa.”

She Bai was startled. “Where did you get these things?”

The Lynx cub scratched its head, lifting the two rabbits from behind its back and showing them. “The teacher gave them to me. She also gave me two rabbits.”

Rabbits?

Hearing the word “rabbits,” the eyes of the surrounding lynxes all flashed with a green light. They had been working hard all day and were already famished; seeing the rabbits, an instinct stimulated them, making them want to pounce forward and bite the food.

She Bai let out a low growl, suppressing the restlessness of the surrounding lynxes.

Unaware, the Lynx cub said, “We can eat these two rabbits together.”

She Bai assumed the rabbits had been caught by the cub. Such good luck was not easy to come by. The Lynx cub was still small and its bones hadn’t fully grown yet, so it needed to eat more meat. As a large monster, he couldn’t very well grab food away from a child.

She Bai patted the cub’s head with gratification, moving his gaze away from the rabbits. “Take them home for your brother to eat. Brother She Bai has food, don’t worry.”

The Lynx cub almost believed him, but it had heard from its brother that the hunting team hadn’t caught any prey for days and everyone was very hungry. Brother She Bai must be starving too.

It stood on its tiptoes and quietly told She Bai what had happened during the day—how its two rabbits and a box of candy had all been given by the teacher because it had gone to pick a lot of wild fruits.
