Chapter 10: Couldn’t refuse

A groan slipped from my lips, the unbearable headache pounding against my skull.

Too many unfinished thoughts clogged my mind, each one looping without an answer.

The cause of this—of everything—was, of course, Happy.

She filled my head with questions, complicated my thoughts, and just when I was close to finding an answer, she interrupted me.

Again. And again.

She piled up emotions inside me until they became too heavy to bear.

So much so that even this felt like part of her plan.

Happy wasn’t just breaking me—she was redesigning me, reshaping me into something she could call hers.

Not with love, but with obsession—with the glue of control disguised as affection.

It was a monstrous instinct, a twisted need to own me.

And yet—

It was working.

Like someone infected with Stockholm Syndrome.

Like stepping onto a highway to hell, slamming the gas pedal myself.

I hated Happy.

And at the same time, I liked her.

The contradiction made me sick.

I could feel myself changing—becoming what she wanted

And it was both disgusting and strangely sweet.

The reason was simple.

I was just too tired.

The accumulated pain from her abuse had settled deep into my body.

Physical and mental exhaustion stacked on top of each other, suffocating me.

I should have collapsed long ago.

So when she offered to let me sleep, I nodded without thinking.

“…Thanks…”

And it didn’t stop there.

I even thanked her out loud.

At that moment, I realized—

I had been completely pulled into her gaslighting.

Because Happy loved me.

And I—

No.

Not yet.

Not after just one day.

I couldn’t fall apart this quickly.

I had to reject these thoughts.

Now.

The filth in my mind had to be expelled.

I felt like throwing up.

I hated myself for accepting this situation.

Not because of pride.

Not because of arrogance.

Simply because this was not normal.

What kind of person locks up and tortures the one they love?

But for Happy, this was completely normal.

“Now, give me your hands.

I had no idea what emotion she had picked up from my reaction.

But her face flushed as she slowly stepped toward me.

At this point, I knew

No matter what she did to me,

I wouldn’t resist.

It was a terrible thing to realize.

And yet, I clung to the smallest comfort

That I refused to call it giving up.

“…Alright.”

“Don’t be surprised.”

Click.

Of course.

Even the briefest moment of kindness was an illusion.

The instant I let my guard down, cold metal wrapped around my wrists.

Handcuffs.

Along with them came a fresh wave of humiliation.

“…You’re not even surprised this time. That’s good.

Happy smiled at my lack of reaction and reached out to pat my head.

Then, she pulled out another pair of handcuffs and sat down in front of me.

“These too, right?”

“…Don’t.”

If I had completely surrendered, I would have just nodded.

But the humiliation was still unbearable, so I shook my head instead.

Happy let out a small chuckle.

“Hmm. Still not trained enough, huh?

Her words sent a chill down my spine.

“If you promise not to run, I won’t put them on.”

“I promise. Please.”

“Alright.”

My forced answer satisfied her.

She stood up, grabbing my hand as she did.

For the first time in hours, I felt stable enough to stand.

Even though my ankle had been shattered earlier,

Now I was walking.

I followed her movements without resistance,

And when we stepped through the door—

I realized we were leaving the basement.

This was her house.

As we climbed the stairs, the first floor came into view.

A living room, connected to a kitchen.

A glass balcony, letting in the empty darkness of the night.

The clock on the wall read 1:36 AM.

A fitting time to match the emptiness in my heart.

“You should take a bath before bed.”

The exhaustion I had been drowning in just seconds ago vanished instantly.

I couldn’t do that.

I had to stop this.

Desperation pushed words out of my mouth,

Even though I knew they wouldn’t work.

“Uh…”

“What’s wrong?”

“The bathroom… It has water.”

“It doesn’t matter.

I gritted my teeth.

This was pathetic.

But I had to find somethinganything—to get out of this.

“T-Then…!”

“What now?”

“I… I don’t have anything to change into.

Happy smiled at my pathetic excuse,

Then pointed at the neatly folded clothes sitting on the bathroom shelf.

“I already prepared them—underwear and all.

So, what’s your next excuse?”

“…What?”

None of my desperate words mattered.

She had planned everything.

I had nothing left to say.

Happy tilted her head, her tone teasing.

“Are you refusing because you’re like a cat and hate water?”

“No… That’s not it.”

“Then stop whining and come with me.

I was out of excuses.

She didn’t even wait for my answer.

She simply grabbed my hand and pulled me forward.

And when we stepped into the bathroom,

My breath caught in my throat.

The place that should have been my greatest escape,

A place filled with limitless water,

Was completely contaminated by light.

The bathroom walls, floor, and even the ceiling were covered in Happy’s magic.

Glowing spells were drawn everywhere

Traps, spears, bindings—

And, most importantly, every drainage point was rigged with deadly magic.

The bathtub drain, the sink, the floor drain, even the toilet

The moment I touched any of them, I would be one step away from death.

“Come in carefully.”

A narrow path remained untouched, just wide enough to step through.

One wrong move, and I’d be writhing in pain.

Amidst all this, I barely even realized—

Happy was already undressing me.

“I’ll wash you before we get in.

Sit here.”

“Yeres Sis? Answer me.”

“Ah… Yeah, okay. Sorry.”

Don’t apologize.

If anything, I should be sorry.

This must look terrifying to you, right?”

“No… It’s fine.”

What the hell was I saying?

I followed her instructions, sitting on the bath stool as she poured warm water over me.

I didn’t resist.

I didn’t move.

If I tried either, I would trigger the magic traps around me.

But I didn’t ignore the feeling of water soaking into my skin.

That was the only pleasure left to me.

“All done. Let’s get in.”

As soon as I entered the hot water,

I felt my rigid expression loosen.

The thought of hiding my emotions had already faded from my mind.

“Thank goodness.”

Happy smiled satisfied, dipping one foot into the water.

“I thought you wouldn’t like it.

Maybe you preferred colder water?”

Then, she stepped in fully.

Turning her back to me—

She undid her magical transformation.

Of course, she was different now.

She had already awakened, so losing her transformation didn’t weaken her magic.

“Yeres Sis, can I ask you a random question?”

At the same time, she slid between my legs, settling herself comfortably.

Then, she gestured with her hand.

Hold me.

I hesitated—

But in the end, I wrapped my arms around her from behind.

“…What’s the question?”

“Why did you become the Queen of Darkmoon?”

Honestly, I expected something else.

Maybe, ‘Do you still hate me?’

Or ‘Do you understand how much I love you?’

Her question completely caught me off guard.

How was I even supposed to answer that?

It all started when I found the Quest Jewel.

I wished for the world’s destruction.

The Quest Jewel gave me missions.

I completed them, one by one, until I became who I am today.

I thought for a moment before speaking.

“Because I wanted to.

A simple answer.

Because I didn’t want to tell her about the Quest Jewel.

She had already taken too much from me.

I refused to let her take this too.

“…So you’re the opposite of me.”

Thankfully, Happy simply nodded at my answer.

Her pink-dyed hair—

Now back to its natural black

Was so long that it tickled my nose.

“Unlike you, I…

One day, I was suddenly turned into a magical girl.

That guy just appeared, gave me my powers, and said I had to fight against evil.”

And just like that—

Happy—

No.

Hyun-seo started venting.

“I had to fight every single day,

But I couldn’t tell anyone I was a magical girl.

They never told me why.

Even when I asked, they refused to explain.

Right.

That weird rule was forced onto magical girls.

I had already figured that out after fighting Happy 131 times.

But the way she was speaking…

She was explaining it to me as if I didn’t know.

That meant—

This was new information for her.

This was my confirmation.

Happy doesn’t know about the Quest Jewel.

She doesn’t remember our 131 fights.

She hasn’t lived through those six years of battles.

Only I remember.

“So, in the end… I don’t really know who I am.

Am I Happy?

Or am I Park Hyun-seo?”

For just a moment—

My mind felt clearer.

Of course, nothing had changed.

I was still trapped here.

I was still choking under her obsession.

“But now… I don’t care anymore.

And then, she confessed.

Again.

And again.

And again.

She turned toward me—

Close enough that our faces could touch if she leaned in just a little more.

She was smaller than me,

So she wasn’t heavy,

But the atmosphere felt crushing.

“I know exactly who I am.

In front of you, Sis,

I can be Happy.

I can be Park Hyun-seo.

You’re the only one I can do that with.”

Slowly—

Her face came closer.

I wanted to shut my eyes

But I didn’t dare.

If I did,

The magic covering the bathroom might crush me instantly.

“So, Yeres Sis.

Please…”

Stop.

A voice interrupted.

I flinched and turned—

A cat was sitting on the bathroom sink, staring at us.

“The Queen of Darkmoon, huh, Happy?”

“I know.”

She responded flatly.

So what?

The talking cat didn’t surprise me.

But what did surprise me—

Was the tension between them.

They didn’t seem close at all.

I stayed silent, simply watching.

“You know, and yet you’re acting like this?”

“I want to act like this.

Why?

Is that a problem?

“Of course it is.”

“I’m not your tool.”

I knew exactly who it was.

I’d be stupid not to.

It was a familiar presence.

“I have rights, too.

Lunt.

That cat

Was the one who made Happy a magical girl.

Of course, I knew.

How could I not?
