Chapter 14: An Unexpected Apology

In the end, Lu Shi was dragged back.

Regarding the earlier misunderstanding, Shen Zheming explained to Ding Wei while Lu Shi was out of the group.

When Lu Shi returned, the group was even quieter. Everyone avoided the topic.

Yu Xi also learned from Ding Wei that the Shen Zheming in the group was the legendary heir of Ju Shang Hang.

He hugged his phone like a dream, confirming with Ding Wei several times. For someone like him, who barely had any contact with high society, suddenly having a mutual friend with Shen Zheming was even less likely than winning the lottery.

The next morning, a little after eight, Lu Shi was still buried under his quilt, not yet awake, when Yu Xi threw a link to a gossip forum post into the group.

As Lu Shi had expected, the gossip forum exploded today.

[Beating the Deputy Director’s Only Son, Slapping the Face of the Huo Family’s Young Master—the Chen Family’s Real Son’s Moves Are Too Defying!]

The comment section was full of people eating popcorn.

1F: Offending two people at once, the Chen family is screwed!

2F: The biological son caused such a big trouble. If I were Chen Qiming, I’d regret acknowledging him!

3F: Coming from a small place, he’s really brave. A newborn calf isn’t afraid of tigers. Does he not know what the Huo family does?

27F: Didn’t they say he was easy to bully? Does this look like someone who can be bullied?

68F: But honestly, the deputy director’s son isn’t a good person either. Evil needs evil to grind. Doesn’t anyone think it’s satisfying and funny that he got beaten up?

69F: Anonymous users sure talk boldly.

70F: Waiting to see how he dies.

Lu Shi groggily scrolled through the comments, seeing a bunch of people reveling and waiting for the show. He wanted to laugh.

He had never understood why some people harbored such malice toward him when he hadn’t even offended them.

Later, after encountering more things and meeting more people, he gradually discovered that among the high and mighty, where interests were paramount, most people’s humanity was like this.

Dummy glided in smoothly, carrying a tray with prepared breakfast.

“Yours.”

Lu Shi didn’t take it immediately.

He leaned close to Dummy’s screen and carefully studied its structure.

Was Dummy really not a mini version of Shen Zheming? The tone of voice was very similar.

Dummy’s screen flickered, and suddenly a line of text appeared:

[Face recording in progress. Recording successful. Imitation progress: 20%]

Lu Shi: “?”

Shen Zheming appeared at the door at some point.

He wore a loose light gray knit sweater, leaning against the doorframe with his collar slightly open, revealing a patch of collarbone.

“It continuously learns and imitates humans while interacting with them.”

Dummy’s originally cold expression changed.

Its eyes slowly blinked twice, becoming round, and its line-like mouth curved up with a hint of arc: “Hello.”

Lu Shi stared at the robot in front of him in fascination.

So it wasn’t his imagination. This AI idiot really had been infected by Shen Zheming after spending so long with him.

Dummy had always looked the same since leaving the factory. This was the first time Shen Zheming had seen a livelier expression on its screen.

It was imitating Lu Shi.

After a night together, it had already learned Lu Shi’s way of speaking, and even its voice had changed. It was no longer so cold, and its timbre was even somewhat similar to Lu Shi’s.

That was when Shen Zheming spoke.

“Dummy.”

The robot turned its head and said in a voice very similar to Lu Shi’s, “What?”

Shen Zheming: “Come out.”

Dummy muttered as it slid out, “Fine, fine. It’s your house, you’re the boss.”

Lu Shi: “…”

Lu Shi sat on the bed, watching Dummy leave: “Can I ask a question?”

Shen Zheming knew what Lu Shi was going to say and suppressed a smile somewhere Lu Shi couldn’t see.

“What?”

Lu Shi was puzzled: “Why is it called that?”

The robot’s figure at the door wobbled, sneaking around as if eavesdropping.

Shen Zheming crossed his arms: “Because it cost two hundred and fifty bucks to buy it.”

Like hell I believe you!

This was at most enough to fool a pure, underage little robot who didn’t know what “two hundred and fifty” meant.

Dummy heard the satisfactory answer and glided away, completely happy.

Lu Shi pointed in the direction the robot left, his expression complicated: “Can we not call it that from now on?”

Now that this robot had learned his language system, it felt like calling Dummy was also calling him.

Shen Zheming’s Adam’s apple rolled slightly.

“Can’t change it.”

Lu Shi: “…”

Word of what happened in the bar last night spread from one to ten, and soon the entire upper circle of the capital knew.

By the time Lu Shi got home, the Chen family was all sitting in the living room waiting for him.

A tablet lay smashed in front of Chen Qiming.

The servants around were trembling and silent.

“Look at the good mess you made last night!”

As soon as Lu Shi appeared, Chen Qiming scolded him without restraint.

“Actually hitting someone in a crowded bar! And the son of the deputy director at that!”

Chen Youxuan couldn’t help but curl his lips, wearing an expression of eager anticipation.

Chen Qiming’s chest heaved violently: “Can’t you just stay home with the family like Youxuan? Do you have to go out and cause trouble?”

It really wasn’t Lu Shi looking for trouble.

Heaven and earth be his witness; he was just having a drink with Ding Wei at the bar and was about to head back.

Chen Qiming was about the same height as Lu Shi, but being an Alpha, he was a bit taller. Furious, he looked down at his own son, his gaze as if wanting to bore a hole through Lu Shi’s face.

But this son showed no sign of remorse, and even his voice was lazy, as if he had just woken up.

“He ran into me himself. Getting beaten served him right.”

Chen Qiming: “You’ve been outside for so many years and never even been to the capital. Why would they target you? In any case, you must go and apologize!”

Throughout, Chen Qiming never once asked what exactly happened last night, why Lu Shi fought, or what those people said to him.

He just kept insisting that Lu Shi bow his head and yield to those who insulted him.

“If I apologize, would they dare accept it?” Lu Shi touched his neck. The blocker patch was on properly, and it didn’t hurt much.

But Chen Qiming thought Lu Shi said that because he didn’t want to go.

Chen Qiming: “If you don’t go, don’t ever step foot in this house again!”

At those words.

Steward Liu, standing nearby, couldn’t help but frown.

The servants whispered among themselves.

“I don’t like the eldest young master, but isn’t that a bit too harsh?”

“Anyone would think the youngest young master is the biological one. The youngest young master has made scenes before, but the master never said anything like that.”

Zhu Wanqing abruptly pulled Chen Qiming.

Chen Qiming then realized he had gotten carried away and misspoken.

Zhu Wanqing: “Xiao Shi, your father didn’t mean that…”

Lu Shi put his hand down: “Fine. I wanted to move out anyway. You can use that room with no sunlight to store junk.”

Zhu Wanqing clutched her chest, her heart inexplicably tightening.

More than Lu Shi saying he wanted to move out, what surprised her was that even after Chen Qiming said such harsh words, Lu Shi remained indifferent.

As if he truly didn’t care whether he had them as parents, or this home, or the status of a young master.

Chen Qiming’s angry expression gradually cooled. He opened his mouth, wanting to say something.

A servant rushed in from outside: “Deputy Director Zhang from the Information and Pheromone Management Bureau is here with his son!”

Finally here.

Chen Youxuan raised his chin slightly, his gaze sweeping over in contempt, schadenfreude almost spilling from his brows and eyes.

It wasn’t in vain that he had contacted several media outlets in advance to lurk near the villa. Today was bound to be a big ugly scene.

Deputy Director Zhang was built like a bull, with thick black brows that slanted downward, and he walked like the wind.

He dragged his son by the arm, coming in aggressively.

Chen Qiming was startled and quickly stepped forward to greet them.

The man opened his mouth, his voice deep and penetrating: “Apologize!”

Chen Qiming: “Ah, yes. I was just disciplining him and was about to make him apologize.”

Lu Shi casually leaned against the glass door leading from the living room to the outdoor pool, watching leisurely.

Then he saw the man push his son forward forcefully.

“Apologize to Lu Shi!”
