Chapter 11: The Injection

After nine in the evening, the lights in the expert room of Ping’an Zhikang Private Hospital turned on.

Shen Luo smiled at the person who had been brought in: “See you again.”

Lu Shi sat on the chair, awkwardly tugging at the corner of his mouth.

The group had come together in the Shen family car. The pain in his gland had eased a bit on the way, but his pheromones suddenly started leaking out uncontrollably.

Ding Wei and the one called Curly both put on masks. Only Shen Zheming looked calm, as if completely unaffected.

After examining Lu Shi alone, Shen Luo pulled back the curtain and said, “The bar is a chaotic place. With your mood swings and the alcohol, it triggered your pheromone imbalance.”

Ding Wei asked nervously, “Is it serious?”

Shen Luo: “Not serious. A few shots and it’ll be fine.”

Everyone sighed in relief upon hearing that.

Lu Shi rolled up his sleeve.

Shen Luo glanced at him: “Not there.”

Lu Shi was a bit confused and looked up: “?”

Shen Luo reached out and tugged at her own collar: “This kind of injection is different from regular ones. It needs to be given near the back of the neck.”

Shen Zheming’s brow furrowed slightly.

Curly’s face turned pale when he heard that. He was also an Omega—the back of the neck was a very vulnerable spot for Omegas, with the thinnest and most sensitive skin. A needle that long and thin—how painful would that be?

Lu Shi was stunned too, his expression blank for a rare moment, but he quickly masked it.

The back of the neck was also a very private area. Shen Luo picked up a piece of medical gauze to cover the gland, then said to the others still standing in the room, “What are you gaping at? Planning to watch? Get out.”

Lu Shi sighed at Ding Wei: “It’s just a shot. It’s not like I’m dying. It’ll be over in a few minutes.”

The needle glinted coldly under the light. Ding Wei sucked in a sharp breath, hesitated, then turned around, sweating inwardly.

Ding Wei and Curly left, but one person remained in the room.

“Brother Shen, are you worried about me too?”

Shen Zheming watched as Lu Shi feigned calm, unfolded the gauze, folded it, and wrapped it around his neck.

“I’ll hold you steady.”

“No need. I can just grab onto something.”

As soon as he said that, Shen Luo, who was preparing things nearby, spoke up: “Better let him hold you. He’s strong and can control you, so you won’t move around too much from the pain and cause the needle to bend for nothing.”

That description sounded a bit scary.

Lu Shi was silent for a moment: “Fine.”

In his previous life, he had been too stubborn. Whenever he felt any pain or illness, he endured it alone and hid it from others. Going to work sick was common.

But the consequence of being tough was often turning a minor illness into a major one. By the time he finished being busy with work, he’d end up in the hospital.

Now he had let go of that. In life, you should be kinder to yourself. Face and such didn’t matter.

Lu Shi sat on a stool and reached out to grab Shen Zheming’s arm.

He took a deep breath.

Shen Luo didn’t even blink as she inserted the needle.

The moment the thin, long needle tip pierced the skin, Shen Zheming felt the person gripping him tremble.

The fingers clutching his arm tightened suddenly, nails seemingly ready to dig into the flesh.

“This actually contains other medication. It will not only stabilize your pheromones but also treat your gland.”

This injection couldn’t be pushed too fast. Shen Luo pressed the plunger slowly as she spoke.

“You are an F-grade Omega, but your original grade was at least A-grade. Only an A-grade would have such strong Omega pheromones.”

“I didn’t say that earlier to keep the other two from hearing. As for Shen Zheming, he already knew anyway. I let it slip by accident.”

Lu Shi was sweating cold profusely, his voice trembling: “Thank you.”

Shen Luo’s glasses glinted, and her movements became gentler.

His grip on Shen Zheming’s hand kept tightening.

Lu Shi’s strength was definitely not light, but Shen Zheming stood still as if feeling no pain, not even a twitch of his eyelid.

Lu Shi closed his eyes and bit his pale lower lip until it bled.

The excruciating pain seemed to travel, spreading through his blood and permeating every part of his body.

Lu Shi felt like he couldn’t hold on much longer.

A faint fragrance brushed past the tip of his nose—like a pleasant floral scent, cool and refreshing, like the morning wind in the mountains.

The cool wind caressed his hands, fell on his shoulders, spread, and enveloped him.

Shen Luo’s nose twitched, and her eyes immediately showed rejection and vigilance. She was about to scold someone, but soon realized the pheromones weren’t directed at her.

An S-grade Alpha’s pheromones were very strong and imposing. Shen Zheming was actively releasing his pheromones in public for the first time.

He tried to control the concentration, letting it surround only Lu Shi.

Alpha pheromones had a soothing effect on Omegas, but it depended on compatibility. If the compatibility was low, it could backfire.

Shen Zheming didn’t know their compatibility rate. He was guessing.

At the birthday banquet that day, Lu Shi seemed to like his scent.

The burning sensation at the back of Lu Shi’s neck eased considerably, and the pain was no longer as intense. It no longer made him dizzy.

Lu Shi’s breathing steadied, and his body unconsciously leaned forward, wanting to absorb more.

A hand covered his face, stopping his forward motion. Cold, fair, slender fingers forcibly separated his clenched lower lip, with the palm and thumb resting right at the bridge of his nose.

Shen Luo withdrew the needle: “Done.”

Finally, the torture was over.

Lu Shi relaxed completely.

His forehead was supported, as if to prevent him from toppling over and hitting the table.

When he looked up again, Shen Zheming had already withdrawn his hand. The sleeve of his arm was wrinkled from being grabbed.

“I didn’t expect you to be so tough. The others I’ve given this injection to were all screaming in pain,” Shen Luo praised involuntarily.

Lu Shi wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and forced a smile.

The two outside heard it was over and hurriedly pushed the door open.

Shen Luo handed a bag to Shen Zheming: “Take it. Use it the same way as just now. You’ve seen it. Within two hours, keep paying attention to his gland’s condition. If there’s no other abnormality, you can hold off for now. Use it next time he feels uncomfortable.”

Lu Shi looked at the bag, then at Shen Zheming, pressing the cotton ball on the back of his neck, somewhat confused.

“Why give it to him? Isn’t it me who’s sick?”

Shen Luo laughed: “What, you want to take it back and do it yourself? First of all, you can’t even see the back. Secondly, you’d easily give up.”

Lu Shi: “Then I’ll go to Ding Wei’s place. Ding Wei can help me.”

Ding Wei waved his hands repeatedly: “No, no, no, Brother Lu. I have a needle phobia.”

Lu Shi: “…”

Lu Shi turned to the other person: “Then I’ll go to—what’s your name?”

Curly answered obediently, “My name is Yu Xi.”

“Oh,” Lu Shi said. “Then I’ll go to Yu Xi’s place.”

Yu Xi’s eyes lit up: “Sure, I can hel—”

Before he finished, two gazes seemed to land on his back at the same time. The looks were equally cold and sharp, carrying the authority of high-grade Alphas.

Maybe it was because he had spoken that both Shen Luo and Shen Zheming looked over, but Yu Xi still felt a chill down his spine. For some reason, he suddenly changed his mind.

“I-I can’t help you anymore,” Yu Xi’s voice gradually faded. “My parents don’t allow me to bring people home casually.”

The room fell into dead silence, broken only by the ticking of the clock on the wall.

After a few seconds.

Shen Zheming, who was holding the bag with a detached expression, suddenly spoke in a low voice: “Are you afraid of me?”

“What did you say?” Lu Shi raised an eyebrow and looked at him.

Shen Zheming: “Nothing. Just a feeling. Speaking my mind, that’s all.”

The atmosphere suddenly became tense, carrying a confrontational momentum.

Lu Shi slowly stood up.

He took the cotton ball off, glanced at it, and casually tossed it into the nearby medical waste bin.

“Since Brother Shen doesn’t mind the trouble, then tonight, I’m staying at your place and not leaving.”
