Chapter 14: Plot Correction Force

Lin Cheng was completely stunned, his mind a blank slate.

He was one hundred percent certain that he had never seen this girl before.

Ever since he transmigrated into this female-oriented novel world, he had been reinforcing his memories of every person he encountered, memorizing names and faces in detail.

After all, he only had the first half of the plot from the system—just enough to avoid being caught off-guard by future twists. Useless minor characters in the early stages could become towering figures later.

But he truly had no recollection of the sickly girl standing before him.

She looked just as shocked. Panic filled her eyes, her slender body trembling slightly.

She clearly hadn’t expected Lin Cheng to track her here so accurately—it was completely outside her predictions.

“You know me?”

Lin Cheng’s tone was sharp. “Who are you? Why were you at our school gate? How do you know my name?”

“I… I…”

The girl flinched under Lin Cheng’s gaze, struggling to pull her hand back. But her strength was pitifully weak.

Floating to the side, Su Wanqing was so anxious she was spinning in circles, her transparent form circling the two like a frantic moth.

The girl seemed to realize struggling was useless. She lowered her eyelids, and spoke in a voice barely louder than a mosquito’s hum.

“I… my name is Ye Weixi. I’m… a classmate of Su Wanqing’s.”

“Classmate?”

Lin Cheng frowned. He had never seen this person around Su Wanqing, and Su Wanqing had never mentioned her.

Ye Weixi seemed to see the doubt in his eyes. She gave a bitter smile—so faint and weak it was heartbreaking.

“An elementary school classmate. But we didn’t interact much. I was very inconspicuous back then. She probably doesn’t remember me at all.”

“Then how do you know me?” Lin Cheng pressed.

Ye Weixi trembled more violently. She subconsciously tightened her grip on the black umbrella in her arms, voice dazed.

“I… I’ve been sick. For a long, long time. I’ve been undergoing treatment since elementary school, all the way to high school… but nothing worked. In my second year of high school, the doctor said I probably only had a month left…”

She raised her eyes. Her pale irises were filled with bottomless confusion.

“Then, I had a dream. A very strange dream. In it… there was Su Wanqing. And you.”

Her gaze locked on Lin Cheng, eyes filled with complex emotion.

“I can’t remember the details after I woke up. It’s all blurry now. But I remember one thing clearly. One voice—very clear, as if carved into my mind…”

“What did it say?”

Lin Cheng’s heart sank. A wave of unease swept over him.

“That voice told me… that if Su Wanqing died, I could live. So I found a photo of her, and tried to curse her… by sticking needles in a doll.”

“…What did you say?”

Lin Cheng’s grip on her wrist subconsciously tightened.

“Ah!”

Ye Weixi cried out in pain, her face going even paler.

“Huh? 😦”

Su Wanqing blinked, momentarily stunned. She looked confused. She wanted to be angry, but didn’t know where to start.

The girl had apparently tried to curse her… but it came from a dream, right?

The use of her name could just be a subconscious coincidence, couldn’t it?

Sure, the doll was pricked—but could something like that really work?

If sticking needles into a doll could kill people, countless people would’ve died long ago.

But then again… she really was dead.

A trace of venom flickered in Su Wanqing’s eyes. She glared at Ye Weixi, grinding her teeth.

“No matter what, it’s wrong for you to think like that! Believing in a dream and wanting to kill me—aren’t you just trying to trade a life for a life?! What kind of feudal superstition is this?!”

The air temperature dropped noticeably. Ye Weixi’s entire body began to tremble.

“Ye Weixi, why did you do that? It was just a dream, wasn’t it?”

Lin Cheng frowned, deeply disturbed.

“I didn’t want to either…”

Ye Weixi’s voice was filled with helplessness.

“But I don’t want to die. I really don’t want to die. The doctors said there’s no hope. But that dream… that voice… it felt like a lifeline. What could I do? What could I possibly do?!

Her thin shoulders heaved violently.

“I can barely even walk… I can’t do anything! I could only act like a madwoman—have someone make an ugly scarecrow, stick a childhood photo of Su Wanqing on it, and sneak to your school gate every day to stab it with needles…”

Her voice grew quieter and quieter, heavy with self-loathing and despair.

“I know it’s stupid… ridiculous… like something a lunatic would do. But what if? What if the dream was real? What if it actually worked?”

And Lin Cheng finally understood.

This wasn’t a normal world.

This was a damn novel world.

Anything could happen here.

He had transmigrated in his second year of high school to protect Su Wanqing.

And now, Ye Weixi—an old, unused foreshadowing laid by the author but never resolved—was being forcibly repurposed by the plot correction force.

She had been transformed from a completely irrelevant background character into a pitiful soul driven by survival instincts, trying to kill Su Wanqing through the most primitive and desperate means.

All because Su Wanqing was originally destined to die in the novel.

The worldline was automatically “correcting” itself—adding a seemingly reasonable cause for her death.

This wasn’t some natural corrective force.

This was a lazy author scrambling to revise their own botched plot—patching with brute force, as if that could fix narrative holes. It was even more outrageous than deus ex machina.

This was supposed to be an urban novel?!

Not only was the protagonist a pervert, but the plot settings were also rotten to the core.

Lin Cheng cursed inwardly.

But he knew—Su Wanqing’s death had nothing to do with Ye Weixi.

The real culprit was that bastard Zhou Mingyuan.

Ye Weixi had just been dragged into this by the author’s heavy hand.

As long as he no longer protected Su Wanqing, Ye Weixi’s presence wouldn’t matter.

But if he continued protecting her…

Then this foreshadowing would definitely resurface again—at a time he least expected, in a way he couldn’t predict.
