A man was being dragged out by one of the club’s guards. A woman in a halter-neck dress stood nearby with blood on her face. She had a slender waist and long, thin limbs.
‘What kind of person hits someone there?’
Yi-jae clicked her tongue. Men like that were always meek in front of club security, but the moment they were with a delicate dancer, their fists came out first.
“F*ck.”
The woman wiped at her face. The moment she saw the blood on her hand, her eyes widened with rage. She snatched up the bouquet scattered across the floor and stalked forward in her high heels.
Yi-jae watched quietly, assuming she was going after the man. Instead, the woman stopped right in front of her. There was fire in her eyes.
“You, right?”
“…What?”
She’d answered immediately, but the situation was so unexpected that the words came out sluggishly.
“It was you. You made this bouquet.”
“Oh. Yes.”
If the woman was about to demand a refund or ask her to remake the bouquet after it had already been destroyed, that would be a problem.
Yi-jae had just been paid and had no intention of refunding the money. And once she’d had alcohol, flower arranging took twice as long and returning with a replacement would be a pain. She desperately hoped this wasn’t that kind of customer.
“How are you going to take responsibility for my face?!”
This, however, was an entirely new category.
What did Yi-jae’s bouquet have to do with that woman’s face?
“You can’t see that my face got scratched because of you?”
“What?”
“What are you going to do about my face?!”
She genuinely had no idea what the woman meant.
Was she the one getting stupid from drinking?
Or was the logic itself stupid?
“…Shouldn’t you be saying that to the person who hit you with the flowers just now?”
“If you’d removed the thorns properly, it wouldn’t have come to this! It wouldn’t have happened!”
The woman’s shrill voice rang in Yi-jae’s head. In a fit of rage, she raised what remained of the bouquet, nothing but stems now, and swung it at her.
Yi-jae instinctively curled up, but her drunken reflexes were too slow. She turned her head at the last second to protect her face. The stems struck the exposed back of her neck over and over.
“Aah! You take responsibility! You pay for all the money I’m losing today!”
“…”
“Do you know how much I’m losing? Aaaah! What are you going to do about it?!”
“What exactly are you doing?”
A slow, drawling voice echoed through the hallway between the woman’s shrieks.
“Oppa…”
The woman who had been hitting Yi-jae dropped the ruined bouquet and made a pitiful face. Tears instantly welled up in her reddened eyes. The woman in the halter-neck dress ran to the man and threw herself into his arms.
It was a remarkably passionate reunion.
“I’m so upset. My face, it’s all that woman’s fault!”
Chae Ju-han was dressed exactly as he had been before.
Which meant the woman in the halter dress was rubbing her tear-streaked face against his bare chest.
Could she be the same woman who had stormed out of the office earlier wearing the pink nightgown?
The alcohol haze lifted slightly.
But Yi-jae still had no idea what she’d done wrong. At this point, she’d have preferred the woman had simply demanded a refund or a replacement bouquet.
“Seeing you again.”
Chae Ju-han pushed the woman away and walked toward Yi-jae.
“Did you change your panties?”
His sharp eyes swept over her from head to toe. She unconsciously tensed her lower abdomen, but she pretended nothing was wrong.
Fortunately, the dangerous edge in his expression had softened somewhat.
Still, his body, coiled with a power that looked ready to explode at any moment, strode toward her. She’d always known he was muscular. But seeing those muscles exposed so openly made his physical presence overwhelming.
His large body closed the distance in an instant, as though he’d crossed the space by magic. The bathrobe behind him whipped through the air. And perhaps because of what had happened earlier, Yi-jae’s heart clenched despite having done nothing wrong.
Still standing on the final step of the staircase, Yi-jae unconsciously took a step backward.
She climbed up one stair.
He climbed one stair.
His face was too close.
She stepped up another stair.
He followed.
His gaze was still looking down at her.
“Talk from there.”
“You were running away.”
“You’re saying we should have a conversation with a single stair between us?”
“I don’t like that either.”
She’d meant that he was standing too close and should back away.
Apparently, Chae Ju-han had interpreted it differently.
He stepped onto the same stair as her.
The heat radiating from his large body made Yi-jae retreat another step.
He immediately followed.
Continuing to climb the stairs was accomplishing nothing.
“Stop following me.”
“You ran away.”
The large man placed his hands on both railings beside her.
She could no longer escape upward or downward.
Once her escape routes were blocked, she felt strangely unsettled.
Like an animal being driven into a trap during a hunt.
“What’s going on down there?”
Perhaps because of the commotion below, Madam Yoon appeared and looked down the staircase, pressing a hand to her forehead. Her exhausted face, clearly suffering from a hangover, had never looked more welcome.
After all, Madam Yoon was the one in charge here.
“Madam. This man was having s*x in your office earlier.”
Yi-jae pointed at Chae Ju-han.
Since the situation had already turned against her, she decided to expose his weakness first. Given the state he’d been in when she’d found him earlier, anyone could have guessed what he’d been doing.
“What? Which bastard dares to- wait. Don’t tell me… Boss?”
Madam Yoon grabbed the railing and leaned over.
“When did you get back?”
****
Tattling had failed spectacularly.
The half-naked man was the owner.
And the office Madam Yoon used had originally been the owner’s office.
Of course, Yi-jae had known all of this. Chae Ju-han had owned this club for years.
She just didn’t want him to realize that she knew him.
Chae Ju-han had always been a local celebrity, so knowing who he was wasn’t unusual.
Still, she wanted to pretend she didn’t know him.
It was, in its own petty way, revenge for the fact that he’d forgotten her completely.
The moment Chae Ju-han sat down, he pulled a bottle and a glass from the drawer.
Yi-jae stared blankly at the man drinking hard liquor neat. Then their eyes met.
His black eyes looked as though they could bore straight through her.
The discomfort twisted inside her stomach, and her eyebrows trembled.
Gone was the steady, reassuring gaze he had once reserved for her.
Now he looked at her simply as a woman.
His eyes traced the skin she exposed and lingered over the lines of her body beneath her clothes.
That naked desire in his gaze made heat spread through her body.
Yi-jae had never developed any immunity to Chae Ju-han’s desire.
“So you’re saying your face got ruined because of our Yi-jae’s bouquet?”
“Ruined? Madam Yoon, what kind of thing is that to say? How is this a ruined face? I’m Kim Cherry!”
“You said you can’t dance for the next few days because your face is ruined.”
Madam Yoon and the woman in the halter dress were still arguing.
“Then should I dance looking like this? Do you think customers will enjoy their drinks? And what about Chairman Cheong, who always calls me into his room to drink with him? If he sees me like this, he’ll just get angry and ruin the mood. He definitely won’t order expensive liquor. What, you can’t even calculate how much revenue I’m losing over the next few days?”
“Was it your face that got damaged, or your brain? You should’ve told me earlier.”
“What?! You crazy old hag!”
When Cherry raised her hand to strike, Madam Yoon scoffed and kicked her in the shin.
“Agh!”
Cherry collapsed with a scream, tears spilling down her face.
“Oppa. Oppaaa. I’m so miserable.”
The woman in the halter dress crawled over pitifully and grabbed Chae Ju-han’s robe.
She moved with calculated precision. She knew exactly how to twist her body to reveal hidden skin. Exactly how much of her underwear to show to stir a man’s imagination.
She knew how to seduce.
How would Chae Ju-han react?
Would he simply continue whatever they’d been doing earlier in the office?
Probably.
A half-naked woman was openly seducing him.
And if she was the same woman he’d just slept with, then there was hardly any question where things would lead.
But Chae Ju-han simply tipped the glass in his hand over her.
“Why exactly should I care about this?”
The woman blinked as whiskey splashed over her.
Her long eyelashes fluttered, unable to process what had just happened.
“…What?”
“Madam Yoon. Deal with it.”
The man calmly poured himself another drink.
“I’ll handle it.”
Madam Yoon dragged the halter-dress woman outside despite her belated apologies. She tugged on the ribbon tied behind the woman’s neck, and the woman couldn’t even resist.
Her face had gone pale by the time she was pulled out.
Bang.
The door shut.
Compared to all the screaming she’d done downstairs, it had been an astonishingly quick and simple resolution.
“You’re pretty ruthless with your girlfriend.”
“Girlfriend?”
Chae Ju-han swirled the liquor in his glass.
The amber liquid spun in circles.
“That’s a cute thought. Why would you think that?”
“Well… I did see what I saw earlier.”
“What exactly did you see?”
“Um…”
That was an awkward question.
She couldn’t exactly say she’d seen the back of a fleeing woman, a disheveled man, and his dangling c*ck.
“Your private life?”
“You mean a limp c*ck.”
“…”
“A soft one. One that wasn’t hard.”
There seemed to be amusement in Chae Ju-han’s voice.
Yi-jae could feel the back of her neck heating up.
It was exactly the same as before.
He was the one who’d shown his body.
Yet somehow, she was the one left blushing.
