Chapter 30: A New Computer for the Young Lady

Tang Xingluo’s grades were excellent. In physics and math especially, he was always among the sharpest.

Below is his mother’s account:

[I finally gave birth to a son, only to find that this kid barely put on any weight. He was slim, with delicate features, loved playing gacha games, and as he got a bit older, he’d even teach himself computer science.

During puberty, he didn’t get pimples. Instead, his skin got finer and finer.

He wouldn’t cut his hair either. I told him if he let it grow much longer, he’d look like a girl. So he tied it back into a little ponytail. Fine, I thought, at least it’s neat. But when I looked again… it only made him look more like a girl. Sigh…

Was the kid rebellious? Not really. He’d been obedient since he was little. It was just a shame about his height. Put him among boys, and he looked like a girl. Put him among girls? Well, you wouldn’t spot anything wrong… And his face was just like that. The first time anyone saw him, they’d think he was a girl… just kidding. Even if you stared, you’d still think he was a girl. That face was so deceptive, even his own family sometimes forgot his gender.

Oh well, as parents, we don’t ask for much. We just hope this kid understands that the real world doesn’t run on just zeros and ones like a computer…

But at least he hasn’t started popping pills or bought one of those toys called Phantom Dragon.

Let him be… The Tang family’s wealth is more than enough to support him for life. We just hope he doesn’t cause any trouble in the future. As for marriage and kids… well, whatever. As long as he doesn’t bring a boyfriend home…]

And so on and so forth. In short, Tang Xingluo was a real boy.

In the field of computers, his skills were already at the peak. Several games on the market had his fingerprints on their development.

When he had nothing to do, he liked to poke around the source code at his family’s company. Sometimes he’d even provide them with revolutionary code.

Of course, more often than not, he’d use the source code to build cheats for his own entertainment. He had never sold them to make money. There was no way he’d let someone use his own cheats against him. That would be too irritating!

And his family wasn’t short on cash.

The Tang family would never refuse to hand over source code either, since if this kid got upset, he’d hack his own family’s company… and then the losses would be far greater!

After chatting for a while, Tang Xingluo nodded slightly, his voice carrying a hint of congratulations. “So, the Shen family’s eldest young lady has finally been found?”

Tang Xingluo always had a vague, lazy way of speaking. His voice, neutral in pitch, sounded like it had been steeped in sweet tea.

“Mm, that’s why I’m here today. I’m going to build a computer for my sister.”

“So what are your requirements?” Tang Xingluo clearly intended to help. Shen Anyue had been his high school classmate, and the Shen and Tang families had been on good terms for years. “If you have special requirements for game performance, I can get my hands on some extreme hardware that you can’t buy on the market.”

“No, no!” Shen Anyue definitely knew what kind of “extreme hardware” Tang Xingluo meant.

It was the kind of graphics card or CPU with such overwhelming computing power that it wasn’t even sold to the public.

Using that for gaming would be like using a nuclear bomb to kill a mosquito. An absolute waste.

Besides, you’d have to modify all sorts of obscure things just to make it run. Shen Anyue didn’t have that kind of ability.

She wasn’t planning to run Boonie Bears Run on her computer anyway, so there was no need for that level of hardware.

A mere 5090 was fine.

Tang Xingluo understood what Shen Anyue needed. After picking out the configuration for her, he casually handed over a USB drive.

“Take it.”

“What’s on it?”

“A PE environment, system image, and Nvidia drivers. Once your computer is put together, you won’t have to spend a whole day just to reach the desktop like last time.”

“I’ve simplified a lot of things. Plug in the USB, and you can set up the system with a single click. It also comes with a few other things.”

“If you’re going to play games, you’ll definitely find them useful.”

Shen Anyue scratched the back of her head, a hint of embarrassment showing on her face.

She might know a bit about computers now, but she used to be a complete idiot.

After buying her first computer, she’d refused help from everyone else in the family and assembled it all by herself.

She then got stuck on installing the operating system for a whole day, searching through countless tutorials before finally getting it done.

During that whole ordeal, she had relied on Tang Xingluo a lot.

“After setting up, don’t download pest software like 360,” he added. “If you’re worried about your RAM getting eaten up, I can send you the software I wrote myself.”

In Tang Xingluo’s eyes, there was no such thing as someone who couldn’t handle 360 and needed 360 anyway.

A newcomer was already confused enough without having to constantly watch out for junk software charging in the background, always on guard against random installation pop-ups. One wrong click and you’d get a whole family bucket of them.

For a computer beginner, that was the real disaster!

As for antivirus protection, it wasn’t that useful either.

After all, if someone managed to infect their own computer with a virus, did they really not know what they did?

Normal use would never pick up that kind of thing anyway.

“Really?! Thanks!” Shen Anyue knew all too well what a genius Tang Xingluo was at software development.

What he made was simple, practical, and efficient. The only thing missing was a public release, and it would have been hailed as a gift from heaven.

Unfortunately, all his tools had always been for his personal use. He never shared them with anyone else.

Tang Xingluo waved his hand. “No problem. We’re friends.”

He truly considered Shen Anyue a friend.

Despite the difference in gender, Tang Xingluo could not muster even a trace of romantic feelings for her. The reason was simple: he didn’t like a youthful girl like Shen Anyue.

His taste ran to mature, confident women. The kind who were beautiful, cool, and had an enchanting voice.

“By the way, where’s your sister?” Tang Xingluo asked. “Is she at Shen residence now?”

He was rather curious to meet Cheng Yiyi in person. After all, before long, the Shen family would hold a banquet to welcome her back.

When that moment came, Tang Xingluo, as the only son of the Tang family, would definitely have to attend.

Getting familiar with her now would save him from accidentally treating the Shen family’s precious daughter like a stranger at the time.

“She’s over there…” Shen Anyue pointed toward a nearby counter.

Cheng Yiyi was currently being introduced to computer components by a staff member.

She had never owned a computer before, but she’d spent plenty of time on the internet, so she had a rough idea about building computers.

“So it’s her.” Tang Xingluo had assumed Cheng Yiyi was one of Shen Anyue’s close friends. He didn’t expect her to be the actual… ah, no, he meant the heiress herself!

He followed the direction of Shen Anyue’s finger and looked.

Cheng Yiyi knew she was in the middle of learning etiquette, so she kept up her poised, noble bearing the whole time. A real young lady of distinguished birth.

It was the perfect fusion of natural grace and trained poise.

There might have been a small flaw here or there, but her demeanor and movements were already beyond reproach.
