Join the ServerLeaf Su, watching Kohn sip wine from his glass, couldn’t help but ask, “Can students drink alcohol too?”
He recalled his own school days, when an underage student caught drinking would surely have their backside beaten into two halves by their father.
‘Well, it was already two halves. In that case, he’d beat it into four.’
“It seems you’re not a noble, Leaf Su! Nobles are considered adults at twelve, allowed to inherit their family name. So, this young master, at fifteen, can certainly be called a mature and seasoned man! Humph humph~!”
Whether it was due to the red wine or not, Kohn’s face was flushed, his words a little slurred, and his ego visibly inflated.
“Alright, alright, you’re mature, you’re mature.” Leaf Su chuckled as he ate, not caring about Kohn’s maturity as long as his steak was cooked.
“Listen, fellow student Leaf Su, now that we’re friends after meeting today, I must tell you: tomorrow, during self-introductions, it’s best not to mention you’re not a noble. Don’t say anything about your family, or it could be quite troublesome.” A slightly tipsy Kohn pointed a finger at Leaf Su.
Leaf Su, cutting into his steak, looked at Kohn.
The beef melted on his tongue, leaving a fragrant aftertaste. ‘Strange, can beef really melt like this? Perhaps it’s just a superior cut.’
“Oh? Why is that? What difference does it make?”
“Because, you see, there’s no helping it. Among the nobles, there are two factions. One despises commoners, while the other, like me, holds no particular prejudice against them. After all, everyone is here to learn, and at school, there shouldn’t be any distinction of high or low birth.”
“Mm-hmm, what Brother Kohn says is perfectly right. It’s school, after all; everyone should be equal.” Leaf Su was surprised, however.
A school divided into factions, with discrimination to boot?
‘Then tomorrow, I’ll just play it safe. If others don’t know my background, they naturally won’t target me.’
“So, those arrogant noble bastards who look down on others—I really don’t know what goes on in their heads. Do they truly believe they’re superior to everyone else? If they’re so bold, let them go tell the Head Student about high and low birth; the Head Student would absolutely slap them so hard their own parents wouldn’t recognize them! Many nobles in this school are actually just trash!”
Carried away by his passion, Kohn even rose to his feet, swaying precariously with his wine glass in hand.
‘This guy isn’t actually going to get drunk and cause a scene, is he?’
“Kohn, have you ever drunk alcohol before?”
“This is my first time! Before, I only drank juice. But since a junior has arrived today, I absolutely must display my senior’s aura! Drinking is a must!”
Leaf Su was speechless.
‘So, you’re just putting on a show for me, then?’
“Quick, sit down! Everyone’s staring; it’s so embarrassing.” Leaf Su felt a surge of “embarrassment cancer” (TL Note: A Chinese slang term referring to an extreme feeling of secondhand embarrassment).
Kohn’s voice had gradually grown louder, already attracting numerous gazes in the dining hall, and now he was standing up, making a drunken spectacle.
They were practically turning into pandas (TL Note: Referring to being watched by many people, like a rare animal in a zoo), with a 300%回头率 (TL Note: A humorous way to say everyone is turning their heads to look at them multiple times).
Just as Leaf Su found himself in a difficult spot, three male students, dressed in what appeared to be extravagant attire, slowly approached them.
Drawing upon his years of experience, Leaf Su could discern from their expressions that these three were not coming over for a friendly drink.
“Oh, quite the speech just now, Young Master Kohn? You sounded so mighty when you spoke. I wonder if your eldest young master knows you’ve been spouting such words?” The student leading them sneered, his gaze flitting dismissively between Leaf Su and Kohn.
“Indeed, it seems the trash among nobles can only associate with pitiful commoner scum. Dining in the same room as you truly disgusts me,” another student echoed, chiming in.
At that moment, Leaf Su silently set down his knife and fork, his expression chilling as he looked at the trio.
“Then, would you kindly take your leave?” Leaf Su stated icily.
