Su Xuan fell to the ground, his back against the pitch-black altar.
His faint life force was being absorbed by the endless dark metal of the structure.
The black altar seemed to brighten considerably, with streams of light flashing across its dark patterns.
Wang Xiang, carrying his sword, slowly approached Su Xuan.
His withered mouth opened and closed as he said, “Although I don’t know what kind of genius you are, this is where it ends!”
A shriveled hand slowly reached for Su Xuan.
Su Xuan’s breathing became ragged.
The flow of energons within his body, which had been disrupted by the impact, rapidly returned to normal, his Life Source Energy burning wildly as if it were free.
Su Xuan bit his vibrant red lips, seemingly unwilling to be defeated so easily.
But in the face of such a massive power gap, success was truly difficult.
He could only stall, stall for time.
Wang Xiang, pressing in on Su Xuan, was like a perverted old man, his eyes gleaming with greed.
He savored the stubbornness beneath that exquisitely beautiful face, a victor’s joy welling up in his heart.
If he hadn’t investigated the information beforehand, who would have known that this stunning beauty was actually a boy?
Perhaps because Su Xuan was a boy, Wang Xiang felt that personally destroying his pride as a man would be an absolutely wonderful thing.
Because he was a boy, the charm he exuded was incomparably wonderful, a unique and peerless beauty.
Looking at the delightful Su Xuan before him, countless images flashed through the victor Wang Xiang’s mind.
But all of that would have to wait until after he had summoned the Dark Abomination and escaped the city.
In Wang Xiang’s eyes, Su Xuan was now an exquisite spoil of war, the icing on the cake.
Perhaps he was thinking too much, completely failing to notice the altar’s strangeness.
Or perhaps his eyes could only see that wonderful body, with no room for anything else.
It seemed to have absorbed enough life force, or perhaps an intelligent being in another world had sensed something in the unseen.
Without anyone operating it, the altar suddenly erupted with a brilliant radiance, bursting through the villa, and piercing the night sky.
The six people locked in a fierce battle on the rooftop suddenly sensed something.
They hurriedly retreated to the side as a pillar of light shot up into the sky, instantly standing tall.
This left the Investigation Bureau warriors stunned, and even Wang Xiang, Yang An, and the other three cult members were at a loss.
This was completely different from the time they had set.
The group of Dark Abominations that arrived had clearly not come through their negotiated channel.
Therefore, this group was not the one the cult wanted.
This group of Dark Abominations had come to this place with the sole purpose of conquest.
However, the cultists fighting chaotically outside were unaware.
They didn’t know that this group of Dark Abominations was not their allies, but a pack of butchers.
On a highway several miles away, a young man with black hair, a cold face, and a golden-red blade was rushing towards the villa at great speed.
And inside that villa, in the no-longer-dim basement, one pitch-black footstep after another emerged from the pillar of light.
The moment the pillar of light erupted, Wang Xiang had burst backward, warily watching the prematurely activated altar.
Su Xuan also took the opportunity to dodge to the side, trying his best to get away from both Wang Xiang and the altar.
Turning his head, Su Xuan saw a living Dark Abomination for the first time.
They were humanoid creatures, mostly two to three meters tall, and incredibly sturdy.
They wore a layer of black armor, and their crimson eyes glowed with light.
In their hands, they held Special Iron weapons that resembled pillar-swords.
These pillar-swords had countless outwardly angled blades on their surface.
Once caught by one, life and death would be uncertain.
In an instant, twelve of them walked out.
Five of them were even more burly, with crescent-moon-shaped black protrusions on their cheeks.
They seemed to be assessing their surroundings, like astronauts stepping off a spaceship, curiously observing a strange new world.
After standing motionless for about ten seconds, they moved.
The massive monsters began to run at an incredible speed.
Their burly bodies were not the least bit clumsy in the strange terrain of countless broken stones; on the contrary, they were extremely agile.
Su Xuan ran frantically, but the energons in his body were already mostly depleted.
Due to the massive expenditure of energons, his cells were long in a state of overload.
Now, Su Xuan only felt weakness throughout his body.
He could only rely on his willpower to barely maintain his fleeing pace.
The one chasing Su Xuan was merely a Star-rank Dark Abomination.
Yet, even against the lowest-ranking Dark Abomination, Su Xuan was completely helpless.
Wang Xiang’s situation was much worse.
The Dark Abominations had clearly judged him to be a far greater threat than Su Xuan, so two of them were chasing him.
As for the group of captured students who appeared deathly still, their auras were so weak that they were completely ignored.
Of the remaining nine, six charged out of the villa and ran outside, while the remaining three stood guard by the altar, seemingly protecting it.
The six people on the rooftop, the three Protectors of the cult, seemed to be considering a retreat.
They knew that the Life Source Energy they had envisioned was now unattainable.
That group of Dark Abominations was just a bunch of untraded entities that didn’t distinguish between friend and foe.
Yang An and the others exchanged a look and suddenly burst out with power.
Even Han Chen, who had been watching the show from the sky due to his wariness of Fang Han, unleashed his techniques.
They were clearly about to retreat.
And Fang Han, the bluffer, seeing Han Chen suddenly get serious, immediately started running away, shouting, “Nigerundayo~”¹
Only then did Han Chen’s face turn a mixture of green and red, realizing he had been tricked.
But there was nothing he could do; he still had to retreat.
Seeing the three retreat, Shi Yidie’s group of three was debating whether to pursue them when they suddenly saw a person rushing over from the distance.
The three of them immediately gave chase.
TL Notes:
“Nigerundayo~” (逃げるんだよ〜): A Japanese phrase meaning “Run away!” popularized by the anime series JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.
