Chapter 45: A development as calm and smooth as flowing water

The reason Lila gave Simon a break wasn’t just to help them recover mentally after surviving such danger, it was more importantly because of what Ulysses had asked of her.

Ulysses had requested that she use her Holy Light to check whether others had been infected by the Dark Seeds.

But Lila didn’t actually know how to use Holy Light for detection. After all, she hadn’t undergone any formal training from the Church, so she lacked many of the techniques associated with it.

So Ulysses suggested she try asking Cecilia for help.

In any case, the most urgent matter right now was rest.

After seeing Simon off, Lila quickly tidied everything up and returned to her apartment, planning to get some proper rest.

After an intense battle and a sleepless night, she felt utterly exhausted.

Struggling to keep her heavy eyelids open, she slowly pushed the door open.

“Caw.”

Immediately, a pair of black wings fluttered toward her.

“So it’s you, you dumb bird.”

Lila raised her arm, and the crow landed steadily on it.

She gently stroked its feathers, they were smooth, even reflecting the light.

She had already grown used to this little creature in her apartment. Every morning, it would fly in through the window.

Ever since the day it persistently pecked at the glass until she let it in.

Since then, Lila stopped closing the window completely, leaving a small gap for it to enter.

After setting the crow down, she skillfully went into the kitchen, cut some beef into small pieces, and placed them in a bowl for it.

How should she put it?

Even though she always called it a “dumb bird,” she actually liked the little thing quite a bit.

It was like how, whenever she was outside, she always felt like she was wearing a mask, whether as Confluence or as Lila. Only in her apartment, or in places where no one knew her, could she drop her restraint and disguises and simply be herself.

With this dumb bird, she didn’t have to worry about what attitude or expression to put on.

In her previous life, she had wanted to keep a pet, aybe a cat or a dog.

But in the busy steel jungle of the city, all her time had been consumed by work, and whatever time remained left her too exhausted to do anything else.

She wasn’t someone who wanted a pet just to appear kind. Given how tired she always was, she didn’t want to adopt one only to neglect it.

So she had naturally given up on the idea.

Now, however, she had the energy to take care of this little creature.

Though she wasn’t sure whether the crow counted as her pet, it only approached her without hesitation when it wanted food.

Come to think of it, she had no idea how such a small-brained bird could distinguish between her two identities.

Maybe it was just animal instinct, she thought.

A wave of drowsiness washed over her. Ever since Simon woke up, she had already been on the verge of falling asleep.

After feeding the bird, she felt even more exhausted and dragged her heavy steps toward the bedroom.

She lay down on the bed, her consciousness gradually fading…

The next day.

Now refreshed, Lila arrived at the infirmary door and knocked lightly.

This time, she came as Comflor.

“Come in.”

A gentle female voice came from inside.

Lila pushed the door open.

Inside, a green-haired woman, who had been looking down at some documents, raised her head, glanced at Lila, and spoke with slight confusion.

“Comflor Wendel? Is that you?”

“Yes.”

Lila replied.

“Then please have a seat and wait a moment. Can we talk after I finish this?”

“Of course.”

After saying that, the woman returned to her documents.

Lila took a quick glance, it seemed to be treatment plans involving Holy Light for certain special conditions.

People in this world relied heavily on Holy Light for healing, it was convenient, simple, and fast. But there were still many conditions it couldn’t cure.

Things like colds or flu, for example. Still, this was another world, and there were all kinds of strange herbs that could treat illnesses.

Even without extensive pharmaceutical research, many diseases could still be cured.

Finally, the green-haired woman finished reading the last page, placed the documents on the table, rubbed her eyes, and turned her attention to Lila.

“I’m Cecilia. You should know that.”

She paused, thinking.

“Since Ulysses asked me to teach you how to properly use Holy Light… let’s start like this. Show me what you can do, just gather it in your hand. You can do that, right?”

“I can.”

Lila held her hand in front of her chest and guided the Holy Light within her body to gather in her palm. Bit by bit, golden light formed into a glowing sphere, like a miniature sun.

Cecilia stared at the light in Lila’s hand, a flash of astonishment crossing her eyes.

Or rather, she was so shocked she couldn’t even speak.

She had never seen such pure, radiant, and brilliant light. Even compared to her own mastery of Holy Light, hers felt like a star before the sun.

“What’s wrong?”

Lila tilted her head. Cecilia had frozen and stared at her the moment she summoned the light.

Then suddenly, she felt her hand being grabbed.

Cecilia looked at her with a serious and intense expression.

“Comflor, can you tell me how you obtained this Holy Light?”

Should she say she met a goddess?

Lila hesitated, then chose to answer vaguely.

“One day, I… dreamed of a radiant space, and met a woman with blue hair.”

She paused, trying to keep her expression natural.

“She was very beautiful… so beautiful she didn’t seem human. I heard her whispering something, but before I could understand, I woke up… and then I realized I had Holy Light.”

The part about the woman seeming a bit foolish, Lila kept to herself.

Cecilia muttered to herself after hearing this.

“A radiant space… a blue-haired woman…”

Her expression shifted from seriousness to excitement.

“It seems you encountered the Goddess of Radiance and received a divine revelation.”

Cecilia studied the girl before her once more.

Lila’s white hair, like fresh winter snow, fell softly over her shoulders, faintly glowing under the infirmary lights.

Her golden eyes, like sunlight-washed amber, were clear and bright, carrying a gentle warmth.

She wore a white dress that swayed slightly with her movements, like a lily blooming under quiet moonlight, pure and beautiful.

Feeling the aura of goodness she radiated, Cecilia nodded repeatedly.

To be honest, when Ulysses first asked her, she had been somewhat annoyed, she already had too much to handle and had no interest in teaching others.

After all, those blessed by Holy Light were usually trained by the Church. If they didn’t know how to use it, it simply meant they hadn’t taken their training seriously.

But now, Cecilia had changed her mind.

She would devote herself fully to teaching this girl everything about Holy Light.

Somehow, she had a feeling…

This girl would become someone truly extraordinary.
