Join the ServerWhether it was his imagination or not, Wang Tianming had recently been under the distinct impression that the new patient in the ward occasionally fixed their gaze upon him.
Although he could now turn his head moderately from side to side, Wang Tianming had no desire to continuously lie on the hospital bed with his head craned awkwardly, a position that was intensely uncomfortable.
He mused to himself that while he might have a somewhat fair and delicate complexion, he was, after all, a grown man.
He wasn’t one of those “big shots” (TL Note: A slang term often referring to powerful or influential individuals, sometimes with an ambiguous or striking appearance) whose gender was indistinguishable at a glance.
As a fellow male, there was no logical reason for him to attract the attention of another.
It must be that he was mistaken.
His mind, accustomed to wandering aimlessly (TL Note: A colloquial phrase indicating random, unstructured thinking or daydreaming, often due to boredom) while confined to bed, had simply conjured up this illusion of being watched.
One could hardly blame him.
Anyone else, restricted to their bed with nothing but IV drips to occupy them, would inevitably succumb to such tedious, rambling thoughts.
Even so, Wang Tianming harbored no desire to willingly venture back into the “Destiny Game.”
While he was unaware of the maximum permissible interval the “Destiny Game” allowed players between sessions, he firmly believed in taking things one step at a time, intent on delaying his next entry for as long as humanly possible.
Having survived two game worlds, he recalled the first, where he had done little himself, yet the searing heatwave from the grenade that exploded before him remained etched vividly in his memory.
Had that young man not succumbed to the poison moments before, the grenade would undoubtedly have inflicted catastrophic damage, sending Wang Tianming straight to his demise.
The second game had been even more perilous.
Upon exiting each game world, the approximate course of the entire match was invariably transmitted into the minds of the survivors.
This allowed them to glean lessons and insights, thereby increasing their chances of survival in subsequent games.
Wang Tianming already knew that Xingxing had nearly succeeded in capturing White Tiger.
He also knew Yi Ye Zhixia could have easily killed Azure Dragon.
Even Hank had a trump card he hadn’t played, only to be caught completely off guard by Kabasiji’s betrayal.
In truth, he had constantly teetered on the brink of death.
The ironic part was his naive belief that he held a significant advantage.
After learning the full extent of events, Wang Tianming couldn’t help but feel a profound sense of trepidation.
His survival through two games seemed nothing short of a divine blessing from the goddess of fortune.
What should have been a situation where a single misstep meant utter defeat, he had somehow, through sheer luck, managed to pull through.
Yet, this stroke of luck did not inflate his ego.
Instead, it instilled in him an even greater caution and an intense aversion to the “Destiny Game.”
‘”Destiny Game,” huh? I should have realized it sooner.
With a name like “Destiny Game,” isn’t it all about fate?’
As he pondered, Wang Tianming couldn’t help but mock himself.
‘To think I once fancied myself “Destiny,” yet I still lack the courage to challenge Death itself!’
“Dàtóu (TL Note: A nickname meaning ‘Big Head’, often used endearingly), what’s wrong? Are you hurting somewhere?”
His father, noticing Wang Tianming muttering to himself, asked with concern.
“Should I call the doctor for you?”
“No need, Dad, I’m fine.”
Wang Tianming gently shook his head.
Movement was still difficult, allowing only such a limited sway.
“I’d like some water; I’m a bit thirsty.”
Soon after, his father returned with a teacup full of water, a straw inserted within.
He carefully extended it to Wang Tianming’s lips.
Wang Tianming immediately took the straw into his mouth, then, gripping it lightly with his teeth, he slowly drank the water from the cup.
“Just call me if you need anything.”
After watching Wang Tianming finish the cup of water, his father gently wiped away the stray droplets from his son’s lips, before settling back into his own seat.
For some inexplicable reason, Wang Tianming still felt the new patient’s gaze lingering upon him.
Wang Tianming turned his head to look in that direction, only to see the patient tapping away at their phone screen.
The young man attending to them was also engrossed in their own phone, apparently watching a video, as they occasionally let out a foolish chuckle.
It seemed he had been imagining things.
Wang Tianming turned his head back, bored beyond measure, with nothing left to do but try and sleep.
“Dear player, we have detected that you have not entered the game for five days.”
Just as Wang Tianming drifted between wakefulness and sleep, a neutral voice echoed.
“Join the game now for a chance to win our ultimate grand prize! Hurry and participate!”
‘”Wha—what? You… you’re the “Destiny System”!
