Chapter 71: A Strategic Shift and Looming Despair

Zhen, in fact, could have boasted a far more attractive appearance, particularly her awakened skin, which was exceptionally dazzling and gorgeous, aligning perfectly with the general public’s perception of ‘potent venom.’

However, Wang Tianming harbored no such desire.

He believed that simplicity was not necessarily synonymous with safety, and that judging by appearances was utterly misguided; even plain, unassuming colors could conceal a deadly poison, and this was precisely the aesthetic he sought.

With two open fans floating gracefully behind her and waist-length white hair cascading down her back, the young woman Zhen emerged from the Seimei Well.

After a quick glance at the system’s information panel, she turned to Kaguya and instructed, “Kaguya, you should go AD!”

“Huh? What?”

Kaguya, momentarily bewildered, didn’t immediately register that she was being addressed, nor did she grasp what the newly emerged young woman had just said.

It took her a moment to process the information, her face a mask of confusion, before she finally responded, “Me, go AD? You must be joking…

Wait, I understand what you mean now.”

Indeed, this was the situation.

Although Kaguya was depicted as wielding the ‘Hourai Rebar’—no, the ‘Hourai Jade Branch’—she was, in reality, a support character with minimal damage output.

Unlike Mountain Rabbit, whose skills scaled with magic power, allowing magic power items to significantly boost her damage, Kaguya’s abilities were almost entirely utility-based, meaning magic power items offered little increase to her damage.

Given that team fight utility was not currently needed, and raw damage output was paramount, Kaguya would be far better off building AD (Attack Damage) items to enhance her basic attack damage.

“I get it now.

Thankfully, I saved my money and didn’t buy many items, so selling them now won’t be too much of a loss.”

Kaguya nodded, immediately beginning to swap out her equipment.

Before long, the true Kaguya, now genuinely wielding the ‘Hourai Rebar,’ made a dazzling entrance!

“Thwack!”

Some unknown fox from an unknown dimension had, at this point, been knocked bald, its head smooth like a Buddha’s (TL Note: A Chinese slang term, ‘fozu tou,’ referring to a bald, smooth head, usually implying being hit hard).

“But even if we’re decent at clearing waves, what will we do if that black beam comes again later?”

Enenra, one of the calmer players on the field who hadn’t engaged much in the previous skirmish, was contemplating this very issue.

“It feels as though every time an ultimate skill levels up, something devastating occurs.

If there are three ultimate skill upgrades, and we only have three lives, won’t we all be wiped out on the third one?”

“No way, this thing wouldn’t be so merciless, would it?

If that’s really the case, what’s the point of even fighting?

We might as well go AFK and wait to die!”

Hyounga’s face immediately fell, stretching long in dismay, though we couldn’t actually see his expression through his armor.

“Then, what if Kaguya uses her ultimate?”

Ara, seeing the disheartened expressions of the other two, suddenly felt his own confidence waver, and he spoke in a quiet voice.

“Doesn’t Kaguya’s ultimate provide group damage reduction?

Could it help us survive?”

“Impossible.

That black light deals too much damage; even with damage reduction, it’s useless.”

Kaguya shook her head, immediately dismissing the idea.

“A level two ultimate reduces damage by 20% to 50%.

Even calculating with the maximum reduction, the opponent can still deal at least 50,000 true damage.

Absolutely no one can withstand that!”

“Then, what about a level three ultimate?”

Ara asked, not quite ready to give up hope.

“Even a level three ultimate only goes up to 60%, still leaving 40,000 true damage.

It’s still impossible to withstand!”

Kaguya shook her head once more, then turned to Hyounga, who was muttering to himself about “building tanky.”

“Don’t even think about building tanky to survive this.

If it were 4,000 true damage, building tanky might work, but 40,000 damage? Are you dreaming?”

Hyounga didn’t retort this time.

Though a bit slow-witted, he wasn’t an imbecile; he could still manage such basic arithmetic.

Even if he built entirely health items and had an excellent economy, at level eleven with a level two ultimate, he would only have about 10,000 HP.

There was simply no way to endure 40,000 true damage.

A pall of gloom settled over the field.

While no one could be certain that such high damage would strike again, as their levels increased, there was no reason for the opponent to use weaker abilities.

The situation would only grow more challenging.
