Chapter 81: Misunderstandings, Misiles, and Moonlight

“Girlfriend?”

It didn’t take long to realize that the word—as profoundly unfitting as it was—was directed straight at me. All three of them pivoted in unison, locking their coordinates onto my position and charging simultaneously.

“Ah, you’ve got to be kidding me……”

A curse slipped past my lips before I could stop it. I literally just followed Sephiroth here; why the hell was everyone rushing me? I mean, sure, compared to Sephiroth, I looked significantly weaker, so taking me out first was technically the tactically sound choice. But does that mean I have to listen to people calling me Sephiroth’s girlfriend? And seriously, can these toxic bastards not form a proper sentence without dropping derogatory slurs? They could have at least just used the regular word for girlfriend—not that that would be accurate either!

“Die……!”

Vergwalo97 was closing in from the right, Brrrbrr from the left, and Hyangi’sBerion was already channeling a heavy spell from the rear line. The staff-wielder, Brrrbrr, who had reached me a fraction of a second faster than the others, raised his massive white staff high into the air with a face twisted in sheer, petty vindication.

This was completely absurd. I understood they were frustrated after being thoroughly clowned on by Sephiroth, but taking out their anger on me was just pathetic. Did I really look that much like a pushover to them?

The passing realization instantly soured my mood. Stepping heavily to the right, I accelerated my pace. Naturally, the tunnel-visioned Brrrbrr adjusted his trajectory to follow my movement, and—

“Urgh!”

“You idiot! Why are you running into me?!”

Crash. He collided spectacularly with the charging Vergwalo97. A split second later, the massive fireball launched by Hyangi’sBerion slammed into the exact spot of their collision, completely wasted.

Honestly, I’ll give credit where it’s due: pinching an opponent from the left and right to constrict their evasion angle is a decent textbook strategy. But if you’re going to pull that off, you need to actually calculate the physics to ensure you leave no escape routes. Isn’t blocking the exits the absolute bare minimum rule of a successful pincer movement?

The “coordinated hunt” executed by these three Endless geniuses was so riddled with basic flaws it was painful to watch. The vanguard synergy between Vergwalo97 and Brrrbrr was so completely nonexistent that instead of cornering me, they couldn’t even maintain a proper safety distance between each other. Operating on pure, red-misted rage with zero brain cells left active, all it took was a tiny mid-stride adjustment from me to make them knock each other flat.

The trio from Endless aggressively pursued me like absolute bloodhounds, but honestly, the AI on the three-headed dragon I fought on Nightmare difficulty possessed significantly higher cognitive function. With just a little bit of baiting, they would expose their blind spots like moths throwing themselves into an open flame, constantly colliding and disrupting their own tempos. And right behind them, Sephiroth was casually strolling along. He was lifting his knees practically up to his chest, strutting with the joyful, bouncy step of a hyperactive elementary schooler on recess.

Wait, why wasn’t this jerk actually helping instead of just tagging along at the back of the line?

“Hey! Why aren’t you fighting?!”

“You got to watch me fight earlier, didn’t you?”

A thoroughly shameless answer flew back. Yeah, because that was a max-level clash where I literally couldn’t deal any damage, you lunatic!

……Well, to be fair, I actually had been contributing to their damage bars. If I had tried to attack them directly with my current stats, my sword would have probably dealt a negligible amount of piercing damage—comparable to a mild mosquito bite. However, I had just discovered that when these idiots collided with each other, the game physics registered it as an obstacle-collision penalty, which actually shaved off a surprisingly decent chunk of their HP. In other words, Sephiroth fully intended to skip behind us cheerfully until I finished killing them via mutual accidental blunt-force trauma.

This absolute bastard.

Deciding I’d had enough of his spectator mode, I abruptly shifted my weight and pivoted, sprinting directly toward Sephiroth. The Endless players panicked for a microsecond before instantly re-adjusting their pathing to trace my footsteps. Well, considering they had been tracking me like heat-seeking missiles this entire time, it was exactly what I anticipated.

I accelerated into a full sprint straight at the black-armored berserker.

“I love how incredibly devious our Blee is.”

“Shut your mouth, you psycho.”

Sephiroth didn’t flinch for a second, his voice dripping with a lazy smirk. He had clearly read my intentions the moment I turned. Since we were on the same page, there was no reason to hesitate. I grazed past Sephiroth’s side with razor-thin clearance, leaving the idiots tailing me to face the raid boss directly.

Vergwalo97 tried to exercise a rare shred of intellect by taking a wide flank to cut me off, which immediately freed up my movement. Brrrbrr, however, chose to commit to a straight-line charge, completely failing to notice that his rotating staff’s hit-box had just entered Sephiroth’s immediate striking range.

Tsk, tsk. Imagine entering a high-tier PVP engagement without even knowing the exact parameters of your own weapon’s reach……

“Huh?!”

Slipping his upper body smoothly to the left to let Brrrbrr’s staff slice empty air, Sephiroth unslung the massive executioner’s axe from his back in a single fluid, unbroken motion. The weapon whipped through the air in a brutal, diagonal cleave from the upper right to the lower left. Before Brrrbrr could even process the redirection, the massive blade connected, slamming his avatar into the dirt as a gray corpse. Between the accumulated collision damage from his teammates and a clean critical multiplier from Sephiroth’s axe, he had been instantly deleted in a single frame.

“Ah, damn. I killed him too fast.”

Sephiroth actually sounded disappointed. Scratching the side of his helmet with a casual gauntlet, he slowly hoisted the heavy axe back onto his shoulder.

“Well, now that the numbers are uneven, shall we clean up the rest?”

It was a line designed to strike pure terror into the hearts of his enemies, but they weren’t given the luxury of time to formulate a response.

In the blink of an eye, Sephiroth materialized like an immovable wall directly in front of the flanking Vergwalo97. The swordsman tried to twist his body away to escape, but the window had already slammed shut. Honestly, at that distance, entering a full defensive parry stance would have at least guaranteed him one extra second of survival.

Sephiroth’s axe carved a flawless, terrifying arc through the meadow. The motion itself looked deceptively elegant, but the sheer brutality woven into the strike executed the sharp weapon’s purpose with absolute lethality.

“F*ck……”

Such were Vergwalo97’s final words.

Hyangi’sBerion, being a squishy mage, had maintained a cautious distance throughout the skirmish. Currently crouching behind a thick tree trunk, his eyes darted frantically across the field, but no matter how many escape vectors his brain simulated, there was simply no outrunning a hyper-mobile max-level Berserker. Watching his fellow guild members turn into cold, gray corpses one by one had completely shattered whatever residual morale he possessed.

Furthermore, this was the Red PVP Zone. It meant Sephiroth wouldn’t suffer a single system penalty for murdering him, and he wouldn’t receive a single shred of protection from the death penalties either. Most importantly, unlike the regular combat zones, dying in the Red Zone meant a guaranteed item drop from your inventory. Like most high-tier players, Hyangi’sBerion’s bags were exclusively packed with obscenely expensive Legendary gear. The sheer real-world market value of his items sent a violent chill down his spine, prompting him to start slinking backward into the brush to log out or flee.

At least, that was the entire narrative I constructed in my head based purely on the sheer panic plastered across his avatar’s face.

And having witnessed an expression like that, I had absolutely zero intention of letting him walk away smoothly.

“Where do you think you’re going?”

“Whoa!”

The moment I made my presence known right beside him, Hyangi’sBerion flinched violently and blindly hurled a panicked Fireball. Of course, a basic, uncharged projectile like that was incredibly easy to evade with a simple tilt of my head. Drawing the sword I had kept sheathed this entire time, I casually executed a few rapid air-slashes right in front of his nose. His face contorted in anger.

“Does a low-level trash piece like you actually want to die?”

“Let’s talk after you manage to kill me, friend.”

Why must these kids use such incredibly harsh language? The lack of basic manners among the younger player base these days was truly reaching critical levels. Talking to people like that is exactly how you lose every friend you have. While I was internally worrying about his long-term social life, Hyangi’sBerion ground his teeth, his face a portrait of pure frustration.

“If we weren’t in this specific situation, I would have wiped the floor with you, so you better be grateful—argh!”

“Mm-hmm. Right, right. I completely understand. Under normal circumstances, you would have one-shot me. Totally.”

My blade drove straight into his midsection. Luck was on my side as the hit registered a clean Pierce proc on impact, causing him to suck in a sharp breath of surprise. I had explicitly validated his excuses just to preserve the fragile ego of the last surviving member of Endless, but for some reason, my agreeableness only seemed to make him exponentially angrier. His face flushing a deep crimson, he desperately tried to initiate another cast bar. Naturally, the moment my edge bit into his shoulder, the channel was violently canceled by the stagger penalty.

He managed to fire off a few instant-cast spells, but a mage’s instant kits were notoriously weak in both raw damage output and effective range. Dodging them with simple, rhythmic sidesteps only aggravated him further, his expression twisting into pure, unadulterated venom.

“Man, this is tough. Magic classes take so long to cast. Should I stand still and wait for you?”

“You really are Sephiroth’s b*tch of a girlfriend!”

What?

“……Hey.”

He had been dropping that deeply irritating phrase since the start of the encounter, but who the hell was responsible for spreading this bizarre rumor? Me? Dating this toxic, short-tempered psycho? Me, actually liking a guy like that?

Seeing my expression instantly turn ice-cold, Hyangi’sBerion seemed to find a sudden burst of confidence. He turned and bolted into a full sprint, screaming back over his shoulder while keeping his eyes locked onto me.

“What’s the matter? Are you pissed? If you’re mad, then—urgh!”

However, he had committed a fatal, rookie mistake. No matter how panicked you are during a retreat, you still need to look at the terrain ahead of you.

While I had been successfully drawing his focus and killing time, Sephiroth had completely erased his presence. Materializing right in his path, the massive crescent blade of his axe descended in a breathtakingly brutal arc. Hyangi’sBerion’s avatar collapsed instantly, materializing as a cold, gray corpse at our feet.

“Good job, Blee.”

“F*ck, the only reason I have to listen to people calling me your girlfriend is because you keep using that ridiculous nickname!”

I vented my explosive, directionless frustration straight at Sephiroth. Of course, a minor outburst like that wasn’t even remotely enough to make a guy like him blink.

“Why? You like me anyway.”

“Are you out of your mind?!”
