Chapter 86: Lovelenica’s Gambit and a Mage’s Fiery End

After a brief moment of contemplation, Lovelenica decided upon a course of action: she would first lead Lucia and the other two to safety, delivering them into the care of other Guardians. Only then would she assume the guise of Nikola and eliminate their pursuer.

Her Spatial Ring still held blood bags from previous encounters. With a slight replenishment, her combat strength would instantly surge to Contaminated-level, rendering any external assistance unnecessary. She alone could vanquish the foe.

Therefore, her priority was to send Lucia, Imeline, and Attestor away. Both Lucia and Imeline had met Nikola before, and Lovelenica could not possibly allow them to discover Nikola’s true identity as a Vampire.

“Those purple things… what are they? I’ve never seen magic like that…”

Imeline gazed at the distant streaks of violet light, murmuring to herself. No one in the Mage Association, to her knowledge, had ever utilized such a unique form of magic.

“Don’t just stand there idly. Whatever those things are, they don’t seem friendly. We need to go, find the other Guardians.”

With that, Lovelenica effortlessly hoisted the weakened Attestor onto her back.

“You… I don’t need…”

“What do you mean, ‘you’? Are you still trying to act tough when you’re this frail?”

Lovelenica cut Attestor off. Whatever her reasons, Lovelenica had no desire to hear them. Her sole focus was to quickly get the three to a safe place. She needed to return swiftly to slay the Bloodkin, to uncover clues related to her original power, and she had no time to dally.

Imeline’s frail physique was utterly incapable of carrying the injured Attestor. Lucia, having expended considerable stamina in the recent battle, also bore a deep shoulder wound that would require time to heal naturally. Having her carry Attestor would only slow them down significantly. Thus, only Lovelenica could move at a reasonable pace while bearing Attestor.

“Teacher! Let me go! While those Black-clad figures are locked in a bitter struggle, let me capture them!”

“Enough!”

Lovelenica’s gaze sharpened on Lucia. Though they were unaware of the nature of those purple streaks of light, Lovelenica knew. In their current state, Lucia and her companions would only be a hindrance.

“Let me take you to a safe place first. I promise, I’ll return to capture them, alright?”

“……Alright.”

It had been a long time since Lovelenica had reprimanded her so sternly. Lucia fell silent for a moment, ultimately choosing to trust Lovelenica.

However, they found themselves with no real path for retreat, as the Black-clad figures had already been forced back towards their position.

“Damn it, damn it!”

The Black-robed Mage roared, leaping across the rooftops, surrounded by the few remaining Black-clad Knights. Moments ago, they had encountered *that person*—no, it would be more accurate to say, *that monster*.

She moved with astonishing speed through the darkness, a slender purple spear held firmly in her hands.

In the Black-robed Mage’s memory, this weapon was clearly developed by the Principality of Hillerbach. Its power was modest, and typically, no true professional would bother using such a thing.

Yet, that person’s speed was unmistakably that of a professional. Moreover, the bullets fired from the spear-gun possessed immense destructive force, clearly enhanced by magic. Even with the formidable physiques of his Black-clad Knights, they couldn’t withstand her barrage.

Though the Black-robed Mage had dispatched all his Assassins to attack her position, her close-quarters combat ability seemed even more formidable. The Black-robed Mage they had just encountered served as the clearest evidence.

To the Mage, only another Mage could contend with his magic. But her strength vastly surpassed his; she was simply not an opponent on the same level.

After a few exchanges, the Black-robed Mage realized he was no match. He desperately sought a way for his companions to retreat, but she relentlessly clung to them, even risking herself to block their escape, creating opportunities for her companions to eliminate the Black-clad Knights.

Upon realizing her objective, the Black-robed Mage knew he had failed. He watched helplessly as those Black-clad Knights were slain one by one.

He had only survived because her objective was solely to eliminate the Black-clad Knights, not him. Yet, all his companions had perished.

This filled the Black-robed Mage with immense fury, but also a profound sense of powerlessness, for her strength was truly overwhelming.

“Lovelenica?”

“Ah, it’s you, Lovelenica.”

The Black-robed Mage halted his movements upon seeing Lovelenica, turning to face her.

Lovelenica longed to rush to Lucia’s aid immediately. However, seeing the Black-robed Mage, she knew she had to engage him first. Otherwise, if he reached Lucia, she would be in grave danger.

“It’s you, isn’t it? How are you still alive?”

“Hmph, the one who can kill me hasn’t been born yet.”

The Black-robed Mage sneered, his gaze heavy with solemnity as he looked at Lovelenica.

“So it’s you. How unexpected. I never thought you’d still be alive. In that case, I suppose I’ll kill you first.”

Lovelenica drew the greatsword from her back, pointing it at the Black-robed Mage, her eyes glinting with a frigid intensity.

“Heh, how arrogant. You think you can kill me?”

The Black-robed Mage scoffed dismissively, his gaze laced with mockery as he looked at Lovelenica.

“Since you’re so confident, I’ll show you just how strong I truly am.”

Lovelenica let out a cold snort, her figure blurring as she instantly reappeared behind the Black-robed Mage, her greatsword cleaving directly towards the back of his head.

The Black-robed Mage’s face contorted. He swiftly spun around, his staff rising to block Lovelenica’s assault.

Boom!

A deafening crash echoed as the Black-robed Mage’s body was instantly sent flying, slamming directly into the rooftop.

Pfft!

The Black-robed Mage spat out a mouthful of blood, his face pale, clearly indicating severe injury.

“Hmph, with such meager strength, you dare to be so presumptuous before me?”

Lovelenica scoffed, her greatsword once again descending upon the Black-robed Mage.

The Black-robed Mage’s expression drastically changed. He hastily raised his staff once more to parry Lovelenica’s attack.

Boom!

Another thunderous crash, and the Black-robed Mage’s body was again sent hurtling through the air, this time smashing directly into the ground.

Pfft!

The Black-robed Mage coughed up another mouthful of blood, the magical energy within his body growing chaotic.

“It seems your strength isn’t all that impressive, after all.”

Lovelenica sneered, her greatsword once more descending upon the Black-robed Mage.

The Black-robed Mage’s face paled further. He swiftly raised his staff yet again to block Lovelenica’s attack.

Boom!

Yet another resounding crash, and the Black-robed Mage’s body was again sent flying, this time colliding directly with a wall.

Pfft!

The Black-robed Mage spat out more blood, the magical energy in his body becoming even more turbulent. He was clearly severely wounded.

“It seems you’re truly finished, aren’t you?”

Lovelenica scoffed disdainfully, her greatsword once more descending upon the Black-robed Mage.

The Black-robed Mage’s face twisted in alarm. He quickly raised his staff again to block Lovelenica’s attack.

Boom!

With another earth-shattering impact, the Black-robed Mage’s body was again launched backward, crashing directly onto the ground.

Pfft!

The Black-robed Mage once more expelled a mouthful of fresh blood, the magical energy coursing through him becoming even more erratic, a clear sign of his grievous injuries.

“Hmph, you think this is enough to kill me? Dream on!”

The Black-robed Mage let out a cold snort, a powerful burst of magical energy erupting from his body as his staff radiated a dazzling light.

“Oh? It seems you still have a trump card up your sleeve.”

Lovelenica raised an eyebrow, a hint of amusement in her gaze as she watched the Black-robed Mage.

“Hmph, I’ll show you the consequences of enraging me!”

The Black-robed Mage sneered, his staff instantly brandished, unleashing a volley of black Magic Bullets that hurtled towards Lovelenica.

Lovelenica’s expression hardened. She swiftly swung her greatsword, deflecting the incoming Magic Bullets.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

A series of loud explosions rang out. Lovelenica was forced back by the Magic Bullets, her body sent flying until she slammed into a wall.

Pfft!

Lovelenica spat out a mouthful of blood, her face pale, clearly having sustained serious injuries.

“Hmph, you think you’re so strong? Before me, you are nothing!”

The Black-robed Mage scoffed, his staff again brandished, sending another barrage of black Magic Bullets hurtling towards Lovelenica.

Lovelenica’s face twisted in alarm. She desperately swung her greatsword once more, attempting to block the Magic Bullets.

Repeated explosions echoed. Lovelenica was again driven back by the Magic Bullets, her body sent flying until she crashed to the ground.

Pfft!

Lovelenica coughed up another mouthful of blood, the magical energy within her body becoming chaotic.

“It seems you really are finished, aren’t you?”

The Black-robed Mage sneered, his staff once more brandished, unleashing another volley of black Magic Bullets towards Lovelenica.

Lovelenica’s expression darkened. She frantically swung her greatsword once more, attempting to block the Magic Bullets.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

With a succession of thunderous roars, Lovelenica was again repelled by the Magic Bullets, her body sent flying until she struck the wall.

“Hmph, you think this is enough to kill me? Dream on!”

Lovelenica let out a cold snort, a powerful burst of magical energy instantly erupting from her body as her greatsword radiated a dazzling light.

“Oh? It seems you have a trump card as well.”

The Black-robed Mage raised an eyebrow, a hint of amusement in his gaze as he watched Lovelenica.

“Hmph, I’ll show you the consequences of enraging me!”

Lovelenica scoffed, her greatsword instantly swung, unleashing streaks of white sword energy that instantly blasted towards the Black-robed Mage.

The Black-robed Mage’s face changed. He swiftly swung his staff, blocking the incoming sword energy.

Pfft!

Lovelenica once more spat out blood, the magical energy in her body growing even more turbulent. She was clearly severely injured.

Under the relentless assault of numerous Assassins, *she* suddenly extended her claws, tearing their bodies to shreds with her bare hands.

He fled in a panic with his remaining companions, and in his haste, unexpectedly found himself back near Lucia and the others.

“Die!”

Flames suddenly erupted across the Black-robed Mage’s night-cloak, generating massive magical fluctuations around him. By all appearances, he was preparing to self-destruct.

Indeed, the moment he realized he had returned to Lucia’s location, his first thought was to detonate himself.

Trapped between the monster and the four women, his escape was impossible. Since he couldn’t flee, he would stake his life on completing his master’s mission!

The Black-robed Mage leaped from the rooftop, his entire body engulfed in flames, transforming himself into a massive fireball that hurtled towards Lucia’s position.

Bang, bang, bang—

However, the instant the Black-robed Mage launched himself, a silver, sharp sword shot forth, ending his suicidal intent.

The Black-robed Mage’s body, still suspended in mid-air, was pierced through the front by a keen blade. His body immediately flew backward, impaling him against a dilapidated wall.

Immediately after, a second, then a third, and ultimately ten sharp swords consecutively pierced his body, nailing him thoroughly to his demise.

“Eh… how could this be…”

The Black-robed Mage, still wreathed in flames, coughed up a mouthful of blood. He glanced at Lovelenica, who had launched the attack against him.

Boom—!

The next second, his body exploded like a bomb, the dazzling firelight blinding everyone. The wall he was pinned against was utterly obliterated.

His remaining companions suffered an even worse fate; caught at the epicenter of the explosion, they were blasted apart, their limbs and blood scattering everywhere before swiftly dissolving into mere bloodstains.

Witnessing the transformation of their bodies, Lovelenica immediately understood the true origin of these Black-clad figures.

They were the private army secretly raised by the Crimson Family.

No one was supposed to know of their existence.

Their forces were immense, comprising various professions. These dedicated soldiers were selected from orphanages affiliated with the Crimson Family across different regions. Orphans without talent were treated as fodder, while those with talent were secretly trained by the Crimson Family. Among them, there was even a seventh-tier Assassin.

Naturally, there were reasons why these loyalists obeyed commands and dissolved into blood upon death.

Liliana had bestowed the power of Blood Contracts upon the Crimson Family. They would have talented orphans sign these contracts from a young age, ensuring their unwavering loyalty to the Crimson Family.

This method mirrored Liliana’s own, with the Crimson Family merely exercising stricter control over these loyalists.

The dissolution into blood after death was also an effect of the Blood Contract, specifically designed to prevent anyone from discovering even the slightest clue about the Crimson Family.

Now, the last few Black-clad figures had also perished in the Black-robed Mage’s self-destruction. Lovelenica realized they no longer had any avenue for escape.

She quickly warned everyone to prepare for battle.

“Watch out! That guy is coming!”
