Chapter 108: The Archmage’s Fury and the Healing of Thor

“Blood, Bloodkin!?”

Upon hearing that Lovelenica and her companions had been attacked by man-made Bloodkin, the Archmage’s expression visibly shifted to one of profound surprise. As a mid-tier professional within the Mage Association, he was naturally privy to information regarding the Incomplete Bloodkin Lovelenica’s group had encountered previously.

It was a widely held belief among the three major organizations that these Incomplete Bloodkin were artificially created. However, the methods used and the ultimate purpose behind their creation remained shrouded in mystery.

To his dismay, the previous two campaigns against these shadowy organizations had not deterred them in the slightest. Instead, they had escalated their aggression, daring to attack the Church Saintess during the Monster Hunt Exercise.

“Yes, that Bloodkin even reached the Blasphemous-level,” Lucia replied. “The black-clad figures were all annihilated, but I couldn’t catch that Bloodkin, allowing her to escape.”

“These damned Fallen Ones…”

The Archmage gnashed his teeth in fury, his curses sharp and venomous as he condemned those who had betrayed humanity. In his eyes, both the black-clad figures and the Incomplete Bloodkin had forsaken their humanity, becoming abominations.

That the black-clad figures dissolved into blood upon death was clearly not a phenomenon observed in normal human demise; they were undoubtedly connected to something sinister. As for the Incomplete Bloodkin, their existence was an even greater affront. To the Arcadia Kingdom, a Bloodkin’s “first embrace” was already an insult to humanity, but actively researching techniques to transform humans into Bloodkin was an outright blasphemy against the divine.

Thus, whether they were the black-clad figures or the Incomplete Bloodkin, they were all Fallen Ones—impurities that had to be eradicated, demons who desecrated the gods.

‘Could those fellows’ target be Lady Saintess?’

As the leader of this Monster Hunt Exercise, the Archmage was no stranger to fear. While all other teams had returned safely, only Lucia’s team had suffered an attack. If there was one thing that set Lucia’s team apart, it was that all three of them were exceptionally gifted, standing out among their peers.

Lucia, moreover, had been personally appointed Saintess by the Pope, without even undergoing a selection process. There was no doubt; these individuals’ target was Lucia.

“Exactly!”

Imeline stepped forward, taking the initiative to answer.

“Leaving the Bloodkin aside for a moment, those black-clad figures were definitely targeting Lucia! When they attacked us, they explicitly said that if we handed Lucia over, they would spare the others.”

Lucia chimed in, echoing Imeline’s words.

“Yes, those black-clad figures truly intended to kill us. If not for Teacher Lovelenica’s intervention, we would certainly have perished at their hands.”

“Such audacious insolence…”

Listening to Imeline and Lucia’s harmonious account, the Archmage’s gaze grew steadily colder. Though he had no idea who had dispatched these black-clad figures, the mere threat conveyed through Imeline’s words was enough to ignite a searing rage within him.

“Oh, right! Archmage, Thor is injured. We’ve only managed to temporarily stop the bleeding. Could we please ask a Nun to help treat Thor?”

“Of course.”

The Archmage nodded. A Priestess had accompanied him when he ascended. He glanced at Attestor; while her limbs appeared intact, her complexion was poor, and her aura seemed somewhat disturbed, suggesting internal injuries. He then looked at the Priestess behind him, gesturing for her to step forward and treat Attestor.

The Priestess immediately advanced, softly chanting incantations and scriptures. A faint white glow enveloped the staff in her hand, and the same white light also encased Attestor.

Following the white light, a soft blue radiance appeared.

Attestor felt a gentle warmth spread through her body. The dull ache in her back instantly gave way to a cool sensation, and then the subtle pain diminished to almost nothing. Even her stamina, mental energy, and magical power recovered somewhat, and her mind felt clearer.

This Priestess was a Fifth-tier Healing Nun, and the magic she had just performed included Fifth-tier Holy Healing and Third-tier Clarity.

Fifth-tier Holy Healing was far more potent than the Third-tier Holy Healing Scroll Lovelenica carried. It not only healed wounds more gently and effectively but also restored a certain amount of physical stamina.

The Clarity spell allowed the target to recover some magical and mental energy. Noticing Attestor’s poor complexion, the Priestess had also cast a Third-tier Clarity spell for her.

In essence, Nuns typically had two branches: Guardian Nuns and Healing Nuns.

Guardian Nuns provided various enhancements to their teammates. The Priestess from Cariso City earlier was a Guardian Nun, capable of creating Divine Barriers for others, casting blessings to increase their spellcasting or movement speed, or imbuing attacks with divine power.

Healing Nuns, on the other hand, focused on team recovery. They possessed not only instant, rapid healing spells like Holy Healing and Clarity but also other techniques for continuous healing.

Overall, while Guardian Nuns and Healing Nuns belonged to different branches, their core purpose was to serve others. They generally lacked powerful offensive capabilities.

Beheading Nuns, however, represented a rather specialized branch. Upon becoming a Beheading Nun, one had to immediately sever ties, abandon all healing magic, and could only cast self-buffs to gain superior physical attributes.

This was precisely why Lovelenica, despite being human, possessed a physique far stronger than that of an average person.

Lucia, as an Angel’s Dust, naturally had a physical constitution already superior to normal humans, which would continue to grow. After becoming a Beheading Nun, her close-quarters combat abilities were even on par with, if not superior to, Bloodkin of the same tier.

Naturally, the traditional branches of Guardian Nuns and Healing Nuns were generally more favored in a team. After all, not everyone possessed Attestor’s formidable defensive capabilities, and minor injuries in combat were unavoidable. Having Guardian Nuns and Healing Nuns significantly increased a team’s survivability and margin for error.

“Your injuries are not light. It would be best to rest properly once we return to the Royal City.”

As the light faded, the Priestess waited a moment before addressing Attestor, advising her to recuperate quietly upon their return.

“Yes, thank you, Priestess.”

Attestor respectfully thanked the Priestess.

After the Priestess finished treating Attestor, the Archmage slowly apologized to everyone.

“In any case, you’ve all worked incredibly hard this time.”

“My failure to properly investigate the internal situation of the Lost City before the Monster Hunt Exercise began was my oversight. I sincerely apologize. Upon returning to the Mage Association, I will personally seek atonement from the association, and I will report the matters concerning the black-clad figures and the Incomplete Bloodkin in full.”

With that, the Archmage turned to Lovelenica.

“This time, we owe you a great debt, Lovelenica.”
