Chapter 129: A Sister’s Despair

“Lovelenica, quick, drink my blood!”

“Ah!”

Lovelenica was utterly bewildered by Julie’s sudden outburst. She had been poised to exert her strength and break free, but Julie’s words completely deflated her, making her wonder if she had misheard. Only then did she realize that Julie, after tackling her to the ground, hadn’t actually done anything aggressive. She hadn’t used magic or kicked; she was merely pressing down with her arms.

“Quick, come and drink my blood! Haven’t you always felt like you weren’t getting enough to eat!?” Julie suddenly roared, her voice laced with hysteria. She even tried to pull up her sleeve, intending to shove her fair, lotus-root-like forearm directly into Lovelenica’s mouth.

“Come on! Drink as much as you can, preferably until you turn me into a dried corpse!”

Upon hearing Julie’s frantic screams, Lovelenica instantly grasped the girl’s intentions. She quickly raised her arm, blocking Julie’s attempt to force her forearm forward.

“Hey! Calm down!”

Lovelenica understood. Julie was wallowing in self-pity, even hinting at suicidal thoughts.

Indeed, that was precisely what Julie was thinking at that moment.

‘Didn’t Theresa say she regretted giving birth to me? Didn’t she say she’d offer me as a sacrifice to the Bloodkin? Didn’t she say she’d let Lovelenica, this freeloading leech, drink my blood?’

‘Fine then, I’ll let her drink! Let Lovelenica drain me into a dried corpse, tear me into pieces. Will that satisfy you, Theresa?’

“Ugh, get off!”

Observing Julie’s contorted expression and the force in her arms, Lovelenica realized Julie wasn’t listening to a word she said. With a helpless sigh, she exerted her full strength, breaking free from Julie’s embrace.

Instead of standing up after being thrown off, Julie remained sprawled on the floor. She shifted her position, then grabbed Lovelenica’s ankle once more.

“You!”

Watching Julie writhe on the carpet, Lovelenica felt an overwhelming urge to curse her with the vilest words.

Although Lovelenica could easily shake off Julie’s grip, Julie was now using every ounce of her strength. If Lovelenica were to truly exert herself in return, she worried she might genuinely injure Julie, a prospect she found herself reluctant to face.

“Don’t give up on yourself like this. Your mother was just angry; she didn’t mean what she said. Once she calms down, she’ll definitely treat you the same as before.”

Lovelenica attempted to comfort Julie, but the words clearly didn’t register. “I’m actually B-type blood! And I’m still a virgin! You vampires love the fresh blood of pure maidens the most. Quick, please!”

As Julie spoke, she used one hand to undo her collar, attempting to expose her neck and delicate shoulders to Lovelenica.

‘My god, are you completely insane?’ Lovelenica felt her eyelid twitch involuntarily. Both Julie’s words and her actions filled Lovelenica with utter shock and dismay.

“I beg you, don’t take off any more clothes… I promise, okay?

First, heal yourself, change into clean clothes, and then we can discuss this, alright?”

“No! I’m going to be drained into a dried corpse anyway, why bother changing clothes?!”

“Then I won’t either!”

With that, Lovelenica swiftly pulled her ankle free from Julie’s grasp and leaped several meters away, creating a significant distance between them.

“You choose. Either you let me drink your blood later, or I leave right now! It’s true that vampires like the blood of pure maidens, but I prefer the blood of beautiful maidens. Do you look like a beautiful maiden at all right now?”

In truth, Lovelenica was only saying this to buy time. She knew Julie was in an emotional breakdown, which was why she was begging to be drained. Once Julie calmed down, she wouldn’t think this way anymore. Therefore, Lovelenica’s agreement was merely a delaying tactic.

Of course, if Julie insisted on continuing to demand that Lovelenica drink her blood, Lovelenica would completely ignore her, leaving her to her madness.

“Then… later.”

Ultimately, seeing how easily Lovelenica broke free, Julie chose to let her drink blood later. However, this decision plunged Julie from her extreme agitation into a deep despondency. She slumped to the floor, looking utterly dejected, and silently hung her head.

“Sigh… Do you have a Holy Healing Scroll?” Lovelenica asked Julie. This time, her question didn’t fall on deaf ears; though the response was minimal, it was better than nothing. Julie subtly shook her head, indicating that she didn’t.

It was normal for Julie not to carry one; as a Guardian Nun, and with a Healing Nun in her party, she wouldn’t need to carry Holy Healing Scrolls herself.

Lovelenica retrieved a Tier 3 Holy Healing Scroll from her Spatial Ring. Approaching Julie, she infused it with magic. A faint, sacred light instantly enveloped Julie’s body, and the bruises from Theresa’s earlier assault, along with her swollen lips, immediately began to heal.

“Thank you.”

“Get up. Let’s go back to your room first.”

“What about you?”

“I’ll come too, if you don’t mind.”

“Okay…”

Lovelenica understood that Julie was in an extremely fragile state and likely needed someone to listen and offer comfort. Although their relationship had been strained before, Julie probably didn’t care about such things now. Regardless of who it was, as long as someone stayed with her, she would accept it. Even if Lucia or Imeline came, Julie would fully accept their comfort.

As for Lovelenica, she simply couldn’t bear to see Julie in such a state. She also intended to use this opportunity to speak with Julie clearly, urging her to stop targeting Lucia. She had no intention of befriending Julie; after all, Julie had previously sent assassins to kill Lucia, and Lovelenica’s goodwill towards her had long since plummeted into the negatives. Her protection of Julie earlier, in front of Theresa, was purely because she disapproved of Theresa’s actions.

After being treated by the Holy Healing Scroll, Julie felt a little lighter, no longer in as much pain. She followed behind Lovelenica, ascending to the third floor and returning to her room. Julie’s room was surprisingly dominated by shades of pink; the carpet, sheets, and duvet covers were mostly pink, giving it a very girlish feel. A faint scent of milk lingered in the air. This was the first time Lovelenica had seen such a feminine decor since transmigrating, finally getting a sense of a true maiden’s boudoir. Moreover, Julie’s room was considerably larger than Lovelenica’s, with more luxurious furniture and decorations, which made Lovelenica feel a touch of envy. ‘Living in the same mansion, why is my room so common?’

Lovelenica picked up a cup from the desk, poured Julie a glass of warm water, and placed it in front of her.

“Thank you…”

Julie whispered another thank you, then silently picked up the cup. She took two sips before placing it back on the desk. A long silence followed. Julie remained seated in the chair, staring at the water in the cup, lost in thought. Lovelenica said nothing more; after all, she and Julie had little to talk about, and their personalities clashed too much for pleasant conversation. Besides, Julie probably needed time to process things on her own. Lovelenica sat there, contemplating her next moves. If Julie wanted to talk later, she would respond briefly. If not, once Julie seemed somewhat normal, Lovelenica would make her intentions clear and then leave.

“Why?”

After a long while, Julie’s incomprehensible question shattered the silence in the room.

“Hmm? Are you talking to me?”

“Yes, why did you protect me in front of Mother?”

“Cough… Next time, it’s best if you don’t just…”

Lovelenica sighed heavily again. This was undoubtedly the day she had sighed most frequently since transmigrating. After complaining about Julie, she began to answer Julie’s question.

“I didn’t have any ulterior motives. I just found Theresa’s behavior distasteful. As a mother, to say such things to her own child… I simply couldn’t stand to watch.”

“I see…” Julie’s tone was laden with meaning, and Lovelenica couldn’t discern what she was thinking at that moment.

Observing Julie’s subdued demeanor, Lovelenica surmised that she was likely still dwelling on Theresa’s words.

“Your mother’s words were just spoken in anger. She only said them because she was furious. Moreover, when she told me to drink your blood, half of it was directed at you, and the other half was passive-aggressive towards me. It was half-and-half, so you don’t need to take it too seriously.”

“Why would Mother treat me like this?”

“I already told you, she was just speaking out of anger…”

“No, she wasn’t.” Lovelenica was cut off mid-sentence as Julie shook her head, refuting her words.

“She only pretends to care about me…”

“Really? Didn’t you complain about me to her before, and she still reported it to Liliana, which led to me being starved?”

“That was just an excuse. She already thought you were getting too arrogant a few days ago.”

“Oh… Is that so?”

Lovelenica pondered this. It did seem to be the case. Theresa had never been fond of her, and after Lovelenica had openly defied her a few days prior, Theresa must have already been plotting ways to deal with her.

“Mother… she pretends to dote on me, but I never truly capture her attention. She has never genuinely cared about me.”

“Oh? Why? Tell me more.” Hearing this, Lovelenica’s interest was piqued. She had initially assumed the Crimson Family would be united, but it seemed there was family drama to be uncovered.

“She never cares about my cultivation progress; she has never once asked about my rank. But she frequently asks how my eldest and second sisters are doing with their cultivation.”

“She also doesn’t care how I fare at the Church, or how I handle my social relationships. Even if I cause trouble everywhere, it doesn’t matter to her; she quickly sends people to resolve it. Afterward, she won’t even ask me about it or educate me. I can’t even get an audience with her.”

“Oh?” Lovelenica raised an eyebrow. Outwardly, she expressed sympathy, but inwardly, she was filled with the joy of learning juicy gossip. She hadn’t expected such internal secrets within the family. “This is truly…”
