Chapter 130: Lines That Blur

“…Don’t tell me you heard me talking to my mother?”

“What?”

Mother?

Hyun-woo frowned at Seung-hyuk’s unexpected question.

There was only one person he referred to as “mother” — Professor Lee Hyun-ah, a renowned mathematician in the U.S.

Seung-hyuk had been born between a female Alpha and a male Omega, and though he called the professor “mother,” she had not given birth to him.

Before regression, understanding the omegaverse dynamics had been unfamiliar, so Hyun-woo remembered being surprised by that detail.

“Ah… the professor is in America…”

Because of the time difference, Seung-hyuk often spoke with his family at dawn.

Why hadn’t Hyun-woo remembered that?

He must have been too overwhelmed.

He pressed his fingers against his forehead with a sigh.

“With graduation coming up, my mother’s been nagging more. She keeps insisting I take a job in the U.S… and I was using you as an excuse to stay.”

“…What?”

Using me as an excuse?

Hyun-woo blinked at him.

With an uncomfortable expression, Seung-hyuk continued.

“I told her there’s someone I like, so I can’t go back yet… She kept asking who it was. I didn’t say your name, but I told her it was one-sided. Since then she nags me every day…”

“……”

“The person I was talking to that night could only be my mother.”

So that, too, had been a misunderstanding.

Though his relationship with his parents wasn’t perfect, they were still normal enough to keep in contact.

In the previous timeline, Hyun-woo had only met them at the wedding, and they had treated him distantly — but they still spoke to their son frequently.

“…Okay. I understand. Sorry for misunderstanding.”

“I’m the one who caused confusion. Sorry.”

“No, I—”

They awkwardly apologized back and forth.

With the misunderstanding resolved, Hyun-woo felt slightly more at ease around Seung-hyuk.

Slightly.

“I’ll head to work then.”

“O-okay.”

Hyun-woo nodded stiffly.

If he kept talking, the employees might get suspicious again.

Tak.

“Hoo…”

Left alone in the office, he let out a long breath.

He could almost still sense Seung-hyuk’s pheromone lingering faintly.

Whenever he let his guard down, memories of that drug-induced night with Seung-hyuk would resurface.

Even if it was because of the drug… things had gotten far too intense.

No. Stop thinking about it.

It was an accident.

Just an accident.

The drug had been strong, difficult to expel, and going to a hospital risked getting involved in the police investigation.

Cha Kwon-oh and Hwang Do-kyung might tell the police he had been at the club — but there would be no evidence.

Seung-hyuk and Seong-yoon would have erased all traces.

So he would not be summoned or questioned.

If he simply left the matter alone, everything would fade naturally.

Thinking any further would only cause trouble.

Steeling himself, Hyun-woo returned to work.

There was a major project to resume, and he would soon be overwhelmed with responsibility again.

He forced his mind back into order.

“Hyung, you didn’t forget tomorrow’s plan, right?”

“Uh…”

Hyun-woo was eating dinner with Hyun-jin after work.

Blinking, he tilted his head.

“Tomorrow already?”

“Yeah. It’s your birthday! You didn’t forget, right?”

“Mm… I sort of did.”

“Honestly…”

Hyun-jin puffed out his cheeks adorably.

Hyun-woo looked at him gently.

Thankfully, Hyun-jin remembered nothing of that night.

He had simply been drunk and tricked by Do-kyung into being used as bait.

When they talked about it, Hyun-jin’s memories of meeting Do-kyung were foggy.

He must’ve been drinking with friends when Do-kyung pretended he’d drive him home.

Do-kyung’s name still hadn’t appeared in the news.

Cha Kwon-oh was too famous to hide, but Do-kyung, disguised as an ordinary citizen, wasn’t receiving attention.

Rumors would eventually spread in university group chats, and Hyun-jin would learn the truth.

“I’m looking forward to tomorrow.”

“Leave it to me!”

“Heh.”

Hyun-woo smiled softly at Hyun-jin’s excitement.

Unlike himself — who solved everything with money — Hyun-jin always put effort and sincerity into things.

Last year he had even made a handmade cake, simple and not too sweet, perfect for Hyun-woo who disliked sugary desserts.

He wondered what Hyun-jin would prepare this time.

After dinner, Hyun-woo headed back to his room.

As he walked through the hall, he heard the front door open.

Tak.

“…!”

Seung-hyuk had come home.

Since their misunderstanding cleared, Seung-hyuk returned naturally each day.

Hyun-woo couldn’t bring himself to push him away.

The memories he was trying to ignore kept flickering at the edges of his mind.

“Hyung?”

“Ah… you’re back?”

“Yes. I’m home.”

“……”

They staggered their commuting schedule to avoid suspicion at work.

Usually, the intern left first, and Hyun-woo left late.

But today was reversed — likely because colleagues had invited Seung-hyuk to dinner to make up for having misunderstood him.

“Did you eat?”

“Yes, with the team.”

“Good.”

Hyun-woo nodded.

But something felt off.

Especially because he sensed a faint trace of someone else’s pheromone lingering on Seung-hyuk.

His expression tightened without him realizing.

“Rest well.”

“Hyung, wait.”

“…What?”

He wanted to leave before the strange mood worsened, but Seung-hyuk stepped in front of him.

Hyun-woo frowned and looked up.

“Tomorrow… spend some time with me too.”

“Tomorrow?”

Did he know it was his birthday?

Hyun-woo’s eyes widened.

“You… know what day tomorrow is?”

“Of course.”

“…!”

So he was asking for a birthday date.

Hyun-woo flinched and turned his head sharply.

“I—I have plans.”

“You’re meeting Joo Hyun-jin. I want to be there too.”

“……”

He figured it out so fast.

Seung-hyuk clearly knew how small Hyun-woo’s social circle was.

Even before the regression, he hadn’t been indifferent — he had admitted he’d been “watching” Hyun-woo all along.

Embarrassed, Hyun-woo cleared his throat.

“No, but—”

“My internship ends tomorrow. Wouldn’t it be nice if we spent the day together?”

“……”

Tomorrow was both Hyun-woo’s birthday and the end of Seung-hyuk’s internship.

He should answer logically and refuse.

But for some reason, the words wouldn’t come out.

Hyun-woo stared away stubbornly.

“Please? Be with me tomorrow, hyung.”

“…Ah.”

Seung-hyuk stepped closer and whispered.

Hyun-woo couldn’t push him away.

The strange, faint scent from earlier faded, and only Seung-hyuk’s pheromones remained — warm, familiar, overwhelming.

His body froze.

Why am I like this?

Ever since that night, his body had been behaving strangely.

He assumed it was the drug’s aftereffect — soreness, nausea, dizziness.

But increasingly it felt like something more.

“Hyung?”

“Ugh…”

When Hyun-woo swayed, Seung-hyuk hurriedly grabbed his shoulders.

His face tightened in worry.

“Are you feeling sick again?”

“No… I’m fine.”

He couldn’t admit he felt dizzy because of Seung-hyuk’s pheromones.

He shook his head.

But Seung-hyuk was unconvinced.

“Come on. I’ll take you to your room.”

“…Fine.”

At least this gave him an excuse to avoid answering about tomorrow.

If Seung-hyuk had pushed harder, he might have ended up agreeing.

Letting out a long sigh, Hyun-woo accepted his support and walked to his room.

“Rest well, hyung.”

Tak.

“……”

Hyun-woo stared at the closed door.

He couldn’t keep living in this unclear, tangled relationship.

His hands trembled slightly.

So much had already diverged from the original story.

This wasn’t the original world anymore — it had changed entirely.

Returning together in the regression must have caused this.

Not long ago, he could push Seung-hyuk away coldly.

But now, he couldn’t.

He no longer understood his own heart.

Alone in the room, Hyun-woo exhaled a long, heavy breath.
