Do-kyung forced the lock open using Hyun-woo’s fingerprint.
Do-kyung’s fingers flicked carelessly across the screen as if checking messages.
“Mind if I keep this for a while?”
“……”
It sounded like he was asking for an opinion, but in reality it wasn’t a question at all.
Without waiting for Hyun-woo’s answer, Do-kyung dropped the phone straight into a glass of liquor.
“Ha….”
Even if phones these days are waterproof, soaking it like that would obviously damage it.
Hyun-woo let out a disbelieving laugh.
“I just didn’t want anything interrupting our conversation.”
“Conversation?”
Hyun-woo glanced around.
With those intimidating guards standing like statues, there was no way a normal conversation could happen.
He took his eyes off them and looked at Hyun-jin.
“First, let Hyun-jin go. I’ll stay here.”
“Hm.”
If he stayed here, anything could happen.
Hyun-woo knew he had to get Hyun-jin out first.
Do-kyung stared at Hyun-jin as if considering something.
Hyun-jin had only been bait to lure Hyun-woo here — letting him go now wouldn’t be a problem.
Besides, they had gotten him drunk elsewhere before bringing him here, so he wouldn’t even know where he was.
“Well, fine. It’d be troublesome for me too if Hyun-jin found out.”
“……”
“I’ll take him home safely, so stop glaring at me like that.”
“Hoo…”
Fortunately, Do-kyung didn’t seem to intend to hurt Hyun-jin.
And he clearly didn’t want his identity exposed.
That meant there was still a chance to get through this unharmed, though Hyun-woo couldn’t shake the bad feeling rising in him.
He watched Hyun-jin being escorted out, then turned his head.
“So, why did you call me here?”
“How about a drink first?”
“……”
Do-kyung offered him a glass.
Round ice, light brown liquor — clearly some kind of whiskey.
Seeing it made a nightmare flash through his mind.
The same kind of drink he once suffered terribly from because of Cha Kwon-oh.
His eyes involuntarily tightened.
“Haha, relax. I didn’t poison it.”
“Poison, huh…”
Sure, maybe not poison.
But drugs weren’t technically “poison.”
Even if they harmed someone just as much.
He didn’t know if Hwang Do-kyung had added poison or drugs to this drink, but the memory alone made him unable to take a sip.
Seeing his hesitation, Do-kyung smirked.
“I told you not to worry. I don’t do weird things like putting pheromones in alcohol. I’m not even an Alpha.”
“…?”
Something felt off.
How did Hwang Do-kyung know about that?
No one knew that Cha Kwon-oh had secretly put pheromones in his drink.
Seung-hyuk might’ve figured it out by instinct, but they weren’t exactly talking about that kind of thing.
“How do you know about that?”
“Oh, about Cha Kwon-oh giving you pheromone-laced alcohol?”
“Why do you—!”
Hyun-woo tried to question him, but a sharp voice cut him off.
“Because I told him.”
“……!”
Startled, Hyun-woo turned around.
Someone stepped through the open door.
His eyes darkened instantly.
“…Cha Kwon-oh.”
“Calling me by name so casually now, Branch Leader Joo? Decided to stop being polite?”
“Ha….”
As Kwon-oh entered, the guards politely closed the door.
Seeing that, Hyun-woo let out a short laugh.
Finally, all the missing pieces of the puzzle clicked together.
His sharp gaze turned to Do-kyung.
“So you were being bankrolled by Cha Kwon-oh.”
“That’s right.”
Do-kyung answered immediately, not even trying to hide it.
Hyun-woo’s face twisted.
Worst case scenario.
Cha Kwon-oh was the one financing Hwang Do-kyung’s drug business.
Then the one Do-kyung met at the hotel during Hyun-jin’s birthday must also have been Cha Kwon-oh.
And they’d managed to cover this up so no one caught on — even when the Blackbird Gate incident exploded in the past timeline, neither of their names surfaced.
Did they cut off loose ends? Or pay people to stay silent?
Something Hyun-woo never knew in the original timeline — he was only learning now.
Clenching his fists, he glared at Kwon-oh.
“So why did you call me here?”
They used Hyun-jin as bait because he wouldn’t come otherwise.
His lips curled into a cold smirk.
“I told you before, Branch Leader. You still don’t get the situation, do you?”
“……”
Kwon-oh walked toward him as he sat across from Do-kyung.
Hyun-woo stared silently at him.
“Is threatening me all you’ve got?”
“Ha… unbelievable.”
Hyun-woo’s attitude was still stiff and unyielding.
Meeting his dark eyes made Kwon-oh’s insides twist in irritation.
He wanted that arrogant face twisted in pain.
He wanted to see him kneeling and bowing his head in humiliation.
And today was the day.
“Let’s begin.”
“……!”
At his gesture, the guards moved in flawless coordination.
Two large men grabbed Hyun-woo’s arms on both sides.
“What the—!”
The guards were all Betas, unaffected by pheromones.
Hyun-woo was held down effortlessly, unable to move.
The more he struggled, the harder they twisted his arms.
“Kh…!”
“If you move like that, you’ll get hurt. Wouldn’t want your arm ruined, would we?”
“Why…”
Cha Kwon-oh and Hwang Do-kyung.
He had no idea why they were doing this.
Well, he understood why Kwon-oh would.
He had plenty of grudges.
But to go this far over something like that?
It would cause more harm than benefit.
Hyun-woo frowned deeply.
“You don’t understand what I’m doing, do you?”
“……”
Kwon-oh spoke cheerfully.
Hyun-woo pressed his lips together.
Kwon-oh leaned closer, grinning.
“I know what you’re thinking, and no — this isn’t simple revenge.”
“……”
“I’m creating your weakness.”
“…Weakness?”
Hyun-woo couldn’t understand.
Kwon-oh, smiling, gestured.
“Bring it.”
“Sure.”
Do-kyung moved.
He approached holding something in his hand.
“It’ll feel really dizzy at first, since it’s your first time.”
“What…”
In his hand was a syringe.
Clear liquid inside.
Hyun-woo’s eyes widened.
Drugs?
Were they really going to inject him by force?
“You crazy… bastards!”
“Tut, hold still. You’ll damage the vein.”
“Don’t you dare, you sick bastard!”
Hyun-woo resisted with all his strength, but the guards only pinned him harder.
Damn.
So this was their plan.
Force him into drug addiction so they could control him however they wanted.
He ground his teeth.
“You’re disgusted now, but soon you’ll crave it. You’ll need it so badly you won’t function without it.”
“Kh…”
“I won’t give you a lethal dose, so relax.”
Kwon-oh chuckled like a mischievous delinquent.
A psychopath.
He must’ve made plenty of people’s weaknesses this way.
Once addicted, breaking free would be nearly impossible.
And with drug traces in his body, Hyun-woo couldn’t even report it.
The more he had to lose, the more trapped he would be.
“Give it here.”
“You’ll do it yourself? That’s rare.”
“I should be the one to ruin Joo Hyun-woo.”
Do-kyung raised a brow at Kwon-oh’s unusual enthusiasm, but handed over the syringe.
“A shame, really. I’ve been waiting for this moment too. Instead… let the first time of something else be mine.”
“……!”
Do-kyung’s gaze slid down Hyun-woo’s restrained body.
A shiver ran through him.
Creeping dread.
“You’re insane too, you know.”
Kwon-oh snorted, understanding the implication.
Then he lifted the syringe.
“Don’t—! Don’t you— argh!”
The sharp needle pierced his skin.
Pain shot through him as something cold pushed into his vein.
“Kh…!”
Cold at first — then burning hot.
Starting from his arm, his blood felt like it was boiling.
Hyun-woo bit down hard, swallowing a groan threatening to escape.
