Chapter 4: A Turn of Fortune: Wang Xiaole’s Unexpected Assistance

Illuminating crystals lined the corridors, lighting the path as the two walked through. The Sacred Maiden was incredibly familiar with the interior of the church, so she led the way.

Wang Xiaole followed behind, feeling fortunate that a turn of events had occurred just as she was about to give up. She didn’t understand why the Sacred Maiden, who was neither a relative nor an acquaintance, would use her personal authority to secure a job for a stranger. Yet, thanks to this beautiful girl, Wang Xiaole wouldn’t have to sleep on the streets that night, and her situation had improved from before.

‘Why did you help me?’

Wang Xiaole had already expressed her gratitude, but it didn’t resolve her curiosity. She wanted to hear the explanation directly from the Sacred Maiden.

‘What do you think?’

The use of ‘You’ was surprisingly polite. Earlier, when Wang Xiaole and the Sacred Maiden had interacted before entering the church, the Sacred Maiden had addressed her with respect. Church officials had explained that the Sacred Maiden was polite to most people.

Since that was the Sacred Maiden’s nature, Wang Xiaole, despite feeling uncomfortable, respected her consistent manner. The matter of address didn’t linger long in her mind; her primary focus was on what to say next:

‘I don’t know.’

This was a truthful statement.

‘Hmm, not knowing is fine.’

Their conversation ended there, until the Sacred Maiden stopped and led Wang Xiaole to the room where she would be staying.

‘Here is the key. There is no spare, so be careful not to lose it.’

After receiving the key, Wang Xiaole stared at the door for a moment.

(This door looks expensive, and the gemstones embedded on it seem to be genuine.)

Although she didn’t understand gemstones, Wang Xiaole was certain about her status here.

‘Sacred Maiden, is this really where I’m supposed to stay?’

‘Is there a lack of trust?’

The girl in front of her smiled, and now, Wang Xiaole began to think that she was a girl with a good temperament.

‘It’s not that I don’t trust you… I just wanted to confirm.’

‘Do you think you don’t deserve to stay here?’

‘Although I don’t know what the room looks like inside, my intuition tells me that this room is more suitable for the Sacred Maiden to stay in.’

‘Intuition isn’t always correct. Please rest assured and stay here. As for my room…’

The Sacred Maiden took out another key and, in front of Wang Xiaole, walked to the adjacent room’s door. She opened the door, entered, and before her figure disappeared, she left a smile and a sentence:

‘I live next door, so if you encounter any problems, feel free to come and discuss them with me!’

‘Sacred Maiden…’

Wang Xiaole wanted to say something, but the door was unintentionally closed by the other person.

*Bang*

The words she wanted to say got stuck in her throat, and Wang Xiaole’s gaze fixed on the door, her thoughts racing. She had been about to give up, but just then, the closed door reopened!

The Sacred Maiden stuck her head out, her eyes fixed on Wang Xiaole.

‘Is there anything else?’

‘…’

‘Why the silence? Didn’t you have something more to say?’

‘Well… yes. There’s something I want to ask the Sacred Maiden.’

‘You want to ask: If someone else came looking for a job today, would I be this polite to them too?’

‘How did you know?’

Wang Xiaole raised a hand and touched her cheek, unable to help but think:

‘Could it be that just from my facial expressions, I’m revealing my thoughts to others?’

‘You’re not someone whose thoughts are easily read. Please rest assured about that.’

‘You figured that out too?’

This was the second time someone had seen through her thoughts, and it wasn’t a burly man. Wang Xiaole felt a bit relieved.

Alone in a different world, danger wasn’t just from men, but the greatest danger was definitely from men!

Like the sentence she heard next:

‘Unlike others, you are the most special to me!’

This was the Sacred Maiden’s answer to Wang Xiaole’s inner question.

Incidentally:

If a man had said this to Wang Xiaole, regardless of his age, she would have turned pale with fear and shivered.

Even after becoming a girl, her sexual orientation remained unchanged, summarized in six words: Female by gender, women are her preference!

‘Please rest well.’

After the pleasant voice, the sound of the door closing echoed; this time, the door would remain closed for a longer period.

Now, Wang Xiaole could go into her own room and take a look.

‘Wow, this is bigger than our classroom!’

Since there was no one else in the room, talking to oneself wasn’t a problem, and Wang Xiaole was genuinely surprised.

‘It’s so big that even a family of three could live here.’

For a single person, ‘three people’ didn’t exist, but ‘two people’ was no issue.

(If Yaofu were here, she could roll around on that big bed.)

Unfortunately, her younger sister wasn’t here, so Wang Xiaole rolled around on the bed herself.

As she rolled, Wang Xiaole became more and more puzzled:

(Without any contribution, the Sacred Maiden prepared such a good room… How strange.)

Her thoughts oscillated between two ideas.

It’s strange, the bed is so soft, it’s strange…

*Gurgle*

Her stomach, so considerate, only protested loudly after she had a place to stay.

‘I hope there’s still food in the cafeteria.’

Wang Xiaole left the big bed and prepared to go out and find something to eat.

*Knock* *Knock* *Knock*

Just then, she heard a knocking sound.

‘Come in.’

A maid, upon receiving permission, pushed a cart into the room.

‘What’s this?’

‘This is your dinner.’

‘You prepared this so quickly?’

‘These were originally the Sacred Maiden’s dinner. She said she didn’t need them and asked me to bring these dishes to you.’

‘I…’

‘The lady asked me to convey a message: Don’t overthink it, eat as much as you want, and that will make her happiest.’

It seemed there was no way to refuse.

Wang Xiaole didn’t say anything more, and the maid didn’t linger. She left the cart and quietly exited, planning to return later to collect it.

Out of curiosity, Wang Xiaole looked at the dinner’s contents.

Cream tea, roasted whole fish, pie, braised rabbit meat; butter croissant, pudding, spicy beef salad, mashed potatoes; duck in oil, cheese, fresh fish soup, vegetable medley; the remaining dishes were unrecognizable.

Facing the dazzling array of delicacies, Wang Xiaole repeated the same phrase in her mouth several times:

‘What have I done to deserve this…’

*Knock* *Knock*

After addressing her hunger, Wang Xiaole heard another knocking sound.

She had a hunch that something good was about to happen, but Wang Xiaole hoped that it wouldn’t.

After opening the door, a woman who did service work entered the room. This person was different from the previous maid.

The latter had a stable job in the church, while this woman was temporarily hired. Her employer had spent a large sum to have her provide a home service.

‘Miss, who are you?’

The woman greeted Wang Xiaole in a manner befitting her noble status, her actions impeccable. From her self-introduction, it was clear that she was a viscountess; her upcoming task was to assist Wang Xiaole with a bath.

‘Please prepare quickly; I don’t want to sleep late and affect my skin.’

Nobles also wanted to earn more money, and this woman was doing a side job. She was quite particular about her clients; first, she required them to have a certain status, and second, she absolutely would not serve men. If Wang Xiaole hadn’t become a girl, she definitely wouldn’t have appeared here.

‘I can bathe by myself; you don’t need to help.’

Refusal was inevitable. Wang Xiaole had no experience with such things, and being served by a woman would make her feel uncomfortable. However, she clearly underestimated the other person’s determination.

The woman’s scowl and stance showed her worsening mood, which wasn’t surprising. After all, she thought that refusing her service was no different from picking a fight.

‘Say, don’t waste my time; I’m not a free person.’

‘This sister, you can consider that I’ve accepted your service; after I bathe, you can leave, and I’ll still pay you…’

Before she could finish, the woman, with her imposing aura, drove Wang Xiaole into a corner with relentless pressure.

‘Who do you look down on? I won’t cheat my employer, nor will I abandon my work because of a few words from you.’

The scene in the room now resembled a small gangster cornering a student in an alley, using threats to extort money. If not for the joke:

Wang Xiaole had encountered a woman who strictly demanded perfection from herself in her work.

‘Answer me! Say something!’

The woman began to crack her knuckles, looking more and more like someone who had experience on the streets.

‘That is, I don’t have any clothes to change into…’

This was Wang Xiaole’s last resistance.

‘What!?’

To someone who didn’t understand, the woman clenched her fists, her expression terrifying like a tiger about to pounce.

‘Alright, you win! I’ll go with you.’

After Wang Xiaole changed her mind, the woman grabbed her hand and dragged her out of the room.

‘Where are we going? I have a bathroom in my room!’

‘The employer said there is a hot spring behind the church, and I’m required to take you there for bathing.’

‘Is it necessary to be so troublesome?’

‘The employer said there is, so there is!’

See? Such strict adherence to the employer’s wishes, isn’t this a sign of an excellent service provider?

The two arrived at the changing room. Due to the presence of a second person and her lack of experience, Wang Xiaole slowly took off her skirt, her back to the woman. She carefully placed her private clothing, then walked towards the hot spring pool.

A beautiful, blemish-free body was briefly exposed to the air. Wang Xiaole entered the pool, and the woman still hadn’t gotten in, as she didn’t need to. From then on, Wang Xiaole only needed to ‘soak,’ while the ‘washing’ was left to the professional.

Yes, bathing also had a distinction between ‘professional’ and ‘non-professional’; the key lay in the strength used, the time spent, and the cleanliness afterward. The woman excelled in this work, and even the most critical person couldn’t find fault with her in this regard.

After bathing, there was an attached massage service, which the woman was also a master of, her skills surpassing even those of a spa technician.

Someone once said:

‘Soaking in a hot spring helps relax the body and mind.’

However, Wang Xiaole’s mind remained tense. As the work was almost done, a third person entered, this one wearing a robe.
