Chapter 61: The Unyielding King and the Mad Commander

The King had finished speaking. Though most of the demons remained unwilling, they could not resist the Large Dog’s earnest persuasion.

“We must believe in Boss unconditionally. If Boss says she can handle it, then she certainly can! Our greatest help to her now is to retreat as soon as possible.”

In truth, how could the demons not understand?

In their current state, even if they remained, their presence would be more of a burden than a help to Boss.

As the impulsive surge in their minds receded, the demons glanced once more at the figure before them, then swiftly retreated.

“Fire!”

Under You’s direct command, a volley of arrows, sharp enough to pierce flesh, immediately rained down upon Wang’s position.

Even with their own comrades standing near the target, the archers who personally loosed those arrows showed no hesitation.

Their motive for drawing their bows was simple: they refused to be slain by that blood-soaked “humanoid monster.”

Thirty thousand bows and crossbows fired in unison. After several volleys of arrows, the soldiers in that area were all dead, yet the monster still stood!

Moments earlier, as a multitude of sharp arrows surged towards her, Wang merely swayed her body a few times.

The dense barrage of arrows seemed to part automatically, with not a single one entering her personal space.

“Hey, hey, do you even qualify as archers? How can your arrows be so slow?”

Wang clutched an iron arrow in her left hand, then abruptly raised her right. Her form and the gleam of her sword transformed into a streak of light, swiftly slashing towards the enemy soldiers ahead.

*Whoosh! Thwack!*

The arrow Wang sent flying with a backhand strike rapidly grew in the eyes of an unfortunate soldier, then *thwipped* through his armor and plunged into his chest.

He was sent flying backward, losing his breath before he even hit the ground.

Wang advanced, her steps stained with the blood of others, approaching with the terrifying inevitability of a reaper claiming souls.

Her target was the five individuals surrounded at the center of the army formation!

Eliminating those in command would cause the entire army to collapse in an instant, thereby guaranteeing the safety of the demons and Cai.

This was the essence of “capturing the king to capture the thief.”

Given the vast disparity in numbers, this was the fastest way to end the battle.

From his position as commander, You perceived his opponent’s clear intention and immediately ordered the entire army to gather, forming an encirclement while preparing their defenses.

Kingdom soldiers, arriving from three directions, instinctively followed their commander’s orders, encasing Wang in layers as they moved, leaving only a single path open before her.

Wang knew that advancing would undoubtedly lead her into a trap; this much was certain.

Yet she had no time to waste and had to actively confront the endless stream of enemies.

The first rank of javelin throwers formed vertical lines, preparing to aim in her direction.

These soldiers raised their arms, tossing the iron spears clutched in their palms upwards. The movements of thousands of men were as synchronized as if performed by a single individual.

Facing the blatant killing intent, Wang transformed herself into a straight arrow, fiercely charging towards the soldiers.

In the same instant, the javelin throwers hurled their iron spears. Spearheads, descending vertically from a specific direction, formed a spear array, stabbing down in successive waves.

Meanwhile, broadsword soldiers advanced from the rear. Their bodies bent forward, they collectively thrust out their combined, ring-shaped blades, coordinating with their comrades’ javelin throws.

Seeing this, Wang sprang her left leg back, stomping hard. From the corner of her eye, she witnessed the nearest broadsword soldier being violently kicked backward.

Her left leg, having kicked backward, did not retract. Instead, after a momentary suspension in mid-air, it immediately swung out in a sweeping arc.

As Wang extended her left leg, the entire row of broadsword soldiers in that direction was swept off their feet.

After that single kick, the number of those soldiers was halved.

Simultaneously, the hurled iron spears whistled towards Wang’s head, poised to strike down in the very next instant.

Yet, the individual showed no panic. She merely swapped her longsword to her left hand, then immediately struck her right palm against the ground.

*Thwack!*

This strike to the ground was accompanied by her body bending and lowering.

Consequently, Wang’s entire body instantly tilted, and using the rebound force generated by her palm striking the ground, she fully inverted herself, balancing on one hand.

Maintaining this posture, she spun half a circle on the spot.

Her taut left leg, which had just swept down half a row of enemy soldiers on the right, now, in its turn, swung horizontally towards the broadsword soldiers on the left.

The targeted soldiers instinctively raised their metal round shields, but could such a serious kick be so easily blocked?

*Crack! Crack! Thud!*

Following a series of sounds of shattering iron shields, the heavy whoosh of enemy soldiers being sent flying through the air naturally resounded.

Blood gushed from the mouths and nostrils of those airborne figures.

*Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!*

The thousand-plus javelins, forming the spear array, soon plummeted to the ground.

Seeing this, Wang immediately arched her body backward, shifting several steps in her inverted stance. Her entire body rotated ninety degrees with a single aerial flip.

*Clang! Clang! Clang! Clang! Clang!*

The very next second after Wang leaped into the air, the dense javelins arrived as expected, impaling the empty ground beneath her.

The force of her leap quickly dissipated, and Wang descended into the center of the spear array.

*Thump!*

Wang stomped her legs down, landing on the left and right tips of two closely aligned javelins.

As she straightened herself, her hands clasped the hilt of her sword, and she brought it down with the force of cleaving mountains and parting seas.

The physical blade met the soldiers’ armor, *clanging* as sparks danced upon it.

The inverse-arc of falling sparks gradually scorched the ground.

A howling vortex of air surged from the sword, *rumbling* as it shattered the armor beneath the blade, then plunged beneath the skin to cleave its victims.

The allied army’s losses mounted, and even the formation itself was severely impacted.

The rectangular phalanx, which had initially suffered a breach at its front, was now completely split in two from the middle, separating into two remnants of unequal size.

Individual Legion Commanders watched the devastating scene from afar, their hearts growing heavier with each loss.

Only You remained as unyielding as iron, dismissing the losses among his soldiers as trivial.

While the four Legion Commanders beside him agonized over the army’s attrition, You’s gaze remained fixed on his target.

Slowly, the pupils fixed on Wang began to become bloodshot!

At first, You couldn’t even perceive Wang moving at full speed, but the situation had now subtly changed.

You bared his somewhat sharp teeth, then, like a shark spotting its prey, he spoke in a chilling whisper:

“Boss’s breaths are growing shorter, and her body’s reactions are no longer as elusive as before… She’s almost finished!”

Yet, despite the elation, no one wished for joy to turn into sorrow, nor did anyone want to invite potentially fatal trouble upon themselves.

At such a critical juncture, the defensive lines positioned upfront had to be even more solidified!

After You issued a new command, cannon fodder soldiers, in numbers no less than before, once again filled the gaps in the formation torn open by Wang’s sword.

Moreover, every so often, a fresh wave of arrows would descend, slaying any soldiers unable to resist and forcing Wang to expend stamina in evasion.

Several other Legion Commanders, midway through, felt a pang of unwillingness, wanting to halt such inhumane and indiscriminate attacks.

However, in terms of sheer presence, that madman was utterly beyond persuasion.

You’s hair streamed wildly in the fierce wind, his eyes blood-red and demonic. His appearance alone struck fear into anyone who beheld it.

Even among the several Legion Commanders leading the army, not every one possessed the courage to directly confront such a madman.

In truth, only one person dared to openly defy You.

That individual immediately issued a command:

“Listen, people of Dibiles! Whether you are soldiers or officers, end this battle and retreat to a safe zone. Do not waste your lives here needlessly!”
