Join the ServerA thick pall of dust enveloped the vast land, obscuring the sprawling battlefield. Amidst the roads where countless soldiers lay scattered, two overlapping figures surged forward.
The figure below was the Large Dog. Perched upon its back was Cai, the young woman who, only moments ago, had finally reclaimed her sense of self.
Though Big Sis had issued numerous commands, the Large Dog, as a loyal subordinate, chose to defy them, driven by an unwavering fealty.
Even with the memories in her mind still hazy, Cai, the maiden once ‘led astray’ by the demon race, still rushed to this place, propelled by a profound concern.
Her clothes were stained crimson, and in her hand, she clutched a gleaming silver cross-sword. With determined eyes, she rode upon her mount, racing towards the destination she had chosen in her heart.
Only a single stream of silver light swirled around her, while before her sword, a thousand blades stood arrayed.
The two distinct colors of light, representing different weapons, mirrored the stark contrast of night and day at dusk.
As the dual-colored lights shimmered in mutual brilliance, a figure, like a drifting petal, drew near. With a swift swing of her sword, she set both streams of light into motion.
When the entangled blades clashed, a hurricane-like force erupted skyward, violently tearing open a winding path.
Utilizing her superior agility and the sharp, three-foot blade in her hand, Cai plunged deep into the heart of the battle array, charging forward with unstoppable momentum.
The tide of war had indeed shifted.
You, until now, had been most triumphant in the situation where Wang stood isolated, fighting an entire army alone.
Initially, You had been certain that his formidable opponent was just one person, and Wang, too, believed no one would come to her aid.
However, their shared conviction shattered the previous moment, sending powerful ripples through their hearts.
Wang’s eyes widened further and further.
Her chaotic gaze held no focus. Those eyes seemed to pierce through the human wall of a dozen ranks before her, past the swirling dust, and remotely caught sight of a familiar figure.
“Why did you come? I wanted you to go as far away as possible, you fool! Why did you return?”
Due to the distance, Wang was unsure if her shouts could carry far enough to reach Cai’s ears.
Desperate for Cai to hear her words, the figure, half-fallen to the ground, sprang up. Her back, drenched in blood, straightened completely.
As if the dozen horrifying wounds on her body were mere illusions, Wang soon charged forward, sword in hand. Her steps were not swift, yet each one dug deep into the earth.
The soldiers, whose attention had largely been drawn by Cai’s sudden intrusion, now noticed Wang’s reaction.
The dying prey, who had been barely breathing a moment ago, now stood upright. How could this be tolerated?
The soldiers would not permit such a thing to happen.
A small squad immediately broke away from their formation, adopting a gang-like assault posture as they converged. They intended to take advantage of the prey’s severe injuries to finally exact their revenge.
Fierce weapons thrust forward, like vicious men, sealing off Wang’s every avenue of advance or retreat. The soldiers might have enjoyed slowly tormenting their prey, but the ‘prey’ had no such inclination to waste time with them.
“All of you, get out of my way!”
Amidst a roaring bellow, her blade slammed down, raising a thunderous rumble like a falling star. With that single strike, everyone and every weapon blocking her path was sent flying the next instant.
Even an old tiger retains its might; a wounded person, their terrifying aura.
Even in a severely injured state, once truly enraged, a person is far from something a few hundred or even a thousand soldiers can stop.
Strangely, Wang should have been incapable of wielding any strength at this moment. Yet, the furious might unleashed in that previous instant was, in every sense, truly astounding.
This would not do.
You, observing the battle from a safe distance, clearly saw that the two people on the battlefield were shortening the distance between them through their shouts. In a short while, they would officially converge.
Naturally, You was extremely displeased. From his perspective, he could see the young woman wearing an iris pendant around her neck, rapidly approaching at all costs to save the demon leader.
That young woman was none other than his blood-related sister!
Upon reflection, it was quite ironic. After all, the person her brother was desperately trying to eliminate was precisely the one his sister was desperately trying to save.
Far from sharing the same thoughts, from their wills to their actual actions, the two were fundamentally at odds. This fact was intolerable to You. He absolutely did not want his sister to be with his mortal enemy, and therefore, he had to separate them.
Just then, the commanding officer responsible for relaying orders approached, softly inquiring about You’s decision:
“That girl who suddenly appeared is causing a lot of trouble. Our brothers have suffered considerable losses because of her. How do you wish to deal with her, my lord?”
“Use any means necessary to deal with her; don’t ask me about every little thing. However, be careful—I want her alive.”
Upon hearing this, the officer immediately showed a troubled expression, shifting his feet uneasily as he meekly stated, “That woman’s aura isn’t strong, but her presence is terrifying. For you to ask us to bring her back unharmed, my lord, might be a bit difficult.”
“Are your ears just for show? When did I ever order you to bring her back unharmed?”
“Oh, could it be that my lord means…”
“Yes, I permit you to use harsher methods to bring her! Just ensure that she still has a breath left when she arrives before me!”
The implication was clear: a half-dead captive would suffice!
Once You maximized his demands, the officer immediately felt the task was much simpler. He swiftly relayed the commander’s orders to the entire army, and the previously indecisive soldiers now knew exactly what they needed to do.
From this moment, Cai’s true trial began. Her ability to advance this far had been inextricably linked to her surprise attack tactics.
However, a ‘raid’ could only be carried out when the enemy was unprepared. Initially, the soldiers had not anticipated the arrival of an uninvited guest, and coupled with the Large Dog’s incredible speed, they had been caught off guard.
But what about now?
The soldiers had recovered, no longer panicked by the sudden enemy. Empowered by You, they had all become serious. At one point, as Cai and the Large Dog galloped forward, a massive amount of sand surged from below. A thick iron chain shot out, instantly coiling around the Large Dog’s stout neck.
Before it could break free, the Large Dog was lifted entirely into the air by a dozen burly men grasping the chain from behind. In an instant, Cai fell to the ground with it.
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!
Several more iron chains followed, successively wrapping around the Large Dog, which hung suspended in mid-air. Seven or eight lower-ranking officers separately restrained its head and four legs.
“Little Dog!”
“Big Sis, don’t come over! I can handle these guys. I can’t take you any further, so I’m entrusting Big Sis to you!”
The chain unit had trapped the Large Dog, while other soldiers raised their arms, intending to pin Cai down by throwing iron spears. The Large Dog, before their plan could succeed, gathered all its strength into its body, transforming itself into a massive boulder, forcefully breaking its restraints, and crashing heavily to the ground.
Thump, thump, thump, thump, thump!
The heavy body slammed down abruptly, shattering a corner of the earth with its flesh and blood, causing dense, spiderweb-like cracks to inevitably spread across the surface. The Large Dog crashed, its head bleeding profusely. While knocking down the surrounding soldiers, it also succumbed to its severe injuries and fell unconscious.
Thanks to its self-sacrificing strike, Cai was able to bypass the middle section of the army and surge towards the final obstacle. The military formation separating the two of them still had seven layers remaining.
Dazzling arrays of weapons thrust towards her. Cai, with little strength left, relied solely on her combat experience to desperately maneuver against the many soldiers.
Wang could not help her, as the latter had already tried every means to hold back half of the soldiers, making it impossible for her to fight her way through alone. Unlike any previous experience, Cai now had only herself to rely on.
She understood that if she continued to advance, she might very well fall in a pool of blood before ever reaching that person. But what did it matter?
If it were anyone else, fear would likely have taken root in their heart, perhaps even the thought of retreating. But in Cai’s heart, there was no fear; instead, a profound serenity resided.
Some words were not just mere utterances. Cai had once told the Large Dog that she wished to die alongside the person whose name she couldn’t recall. Those words were undoubtedly spoken with true emotion.
Even now, that surge of impulse from the depths of her heart still propelled her legs forward.
One step, one swing of the sword; one sword, one fallen foe.
At some unknown point, the hopelessly kind nun had been buried in the past. The one now desperately wielding her sword was a young woman willing to take lives for the sake of a single protective thought.
Sweat beaded on her forehead, and her limited physical strength left her legs feeling overwhelmed, yet her steps remained steady. It didn’t matter if her body was struck by iron weapons, or if her joints refused to lift, or if blood overflowed.
She clung to a single conviction and stubbornly persisted, stepping forward, swinging her cross-sword, and then repeating the process, occasionally being hit by enemy weapons along the way.
Wang could not see Cai, but through the intermittent clashing sounds, she vaguely sensed something and cried out in extreme anxiety. The two could not see each other; only their shouts reached one another’s ears.
“There’s no need for useless little girls here! Get out!”
“No!”
“You’ve grown bold, haven’t you? You dare to disobey me now?”
“I can’t even remember who you are, so why should I obey? I won’t!”
They had never erupted into such a fierce dispute, nor had there ever been a moment when they cared more deeply for each other than now. Not long ago, two crimson streaks began to appear beneath Cai’s feet.
This color was so vivid that it was noticeable even without close inspection, as if all the colors of the sunset had gathered there, causing a red overflow across the battlefield, a truly desolate and bloody sight.
Even as the hand holding the sword became difficult to lift, and the breath exhaled from her mouth was stained crimson, Cai’s wish grew ever stronger. It would be fine even if she couldn’t reach that person alive.
At the very least, she hoped to die with the one she cared about most. If that could be, she would have no regrets.
