Under the tranquil moonlight, Kafa City gradually succumbed to quietude, ignoring the strange, delicate sounds emanating from the apprentice saintess’s home.
Outside Kafa City, deep within the forest, a green-haired man wandered aimlessly, appearing utterly lost.
Concurrently, a band of monsters was also present in the same forest. The Goblin King continued his search for the reincarnated Demon King, a quest that remained the paramount concern for their demon race.
‘Strange,’ he thought. ‘The Demon King’s power clearly manifested in this forest during the day, so why can’t I find it now?’
Just as the Goblin King stood, attempting to connect to the global goblin collective consciousness, a sudden commotion erupted.
A group of small goblins, chattering excitedly, rushed before him, tugging at his massive leg as they cried out:
“Your Majesty, Your Majesty, we found him, we found him!”
‘Found him?’
The Goblin King opened his eyes and lumbered his enormous body in the direction the small goblins pointed. After a moment, he spotted a figure standing atop a large boulder.
“H-h-he says he’s the Demon King!”
“Uh…”
‘Does… does he look like one?’
The Goblin King scrutinized him closely. The green-haired man before him was dressed bizarrely; his blue and white jacket adorned with strange symbols and writing, completely out of place in this world.
He appeared to be around seventeen or eighteen years old. What was most irritating was the look in his eyes—a gaze filled with utter disdain.
The green-haired man, looking down from his vantage point at the three-meter-tall Goblin King, offered a slight smile and was just about to speak.
Then, his foot slipped, and he tumbled from the boulder.
The goblins stared, dumbfounded. ‘No, what was that?’
After a long moment, the green-haired man hastily scrambled to his feet, steadying himself. He then casually slipped one hand into his school uniform pocket, while the other rested on his forehead, feigning a thoughtful pose.
He then chuckled softly:
“Hey, you goblins over there, you’re looking for someone, aren’t you?”
‘Holy moly!’
All the goblins looked utterly bewildered. ‘This human… he’s incredible! Not only does he not run from goblins, but he’s even talking to us?’
This truly baffled everyone. Given that goblins were typically a low-intelligence demon species, they were all completely dumbfounded.
The Goblin King, being slightly more intelligent, slowly spoke after a moment:
“Human, aren’t you going to run?”
“Hahahahaha—” The green-haired man roared with laughter, shaking his head before his lips quirked into a smirk as he declared: “If it were an ordinary person from this otherworld, they would have likely fled in terror by now. But, my robust goblin friend, I am different~ I am Glynn Lee Ainz Ooal Gown, the invincible one who commands all power, the chosen child destined to rule this otherworld, a deity descended upon this realm, the ultimate arbiter of all order. Yes, I am a transmigrator! I was just run over by a truck… ah, no, I just arrived here. The one you seek, that would be me, wouldn’t it?!”
“What? You are the reincarnated Demon King?”
The Goblin King was utterly stunned. ‘This person’s titles… why are they so long? They sounded incredibly powerful, and the sheer confidence radiating from him was unlike anything the Goblin King had ever witnessed.’
‘Uh… Demon King?’
Glynn lowered his head, pondering for a moment. ‘Is… is that true?’
As a chuunibyou high school student who had just been run over by a truck after school and woke up in another world, Glynn was now deeply confused.
‘I have transmigrated, so shouldn’t I be the protagonist? Where’s my system? Where are the divine artifacts bestowed by my reincarnation goddess? Where are my cheats, my cheats?’
Only then did Glynn finally understand. ‘Oh~ So I’m the reincarnated Demon King! I’m the protagonist of the invincible genre, naturally unbeatable, so I don’t need cheats anymore.’
“Hmph, hahahaha—” The chuunibyou youth covered his face and burst into another fit of wild laughter, then clapped his hands and declared: “Indeed, I am the reincarnated Demon King you speak of. Are you, perhaps, my subordinates?”
“Uh…”
The Goblin King looked at Glynn with some doubt. He couldn’t sense any Demon King energy fluctuations from the youth, making it truly difficult to confirm his identity.
However, given the man’s immense confidence, if he were to disrespect the true Demon King…
With this thought, and to be safe, the Goblin King knelt on one knee before Glynn. Their gazes finally met at the same level, and Glynn no longer had to crane his neck to look up at him.
“Yes, Demon King-sama, I am your Demon King Army executive, the Goblin King. In your previous life, before your reincarnation, Demon King-sama specifically instructed me to await your return. Today, I sensed a massive energy fluctuation, which is why I dared to come here to search. But… now, that energy fluctuation seems to have faded.”
The Goblin King looked up at Glynn, his voice tinged with a hint of doubt. Glynn smiled faintly. ‘Heh, so you’re doubting my identity, are you?’
‘Of course there was an energy fluctuation in the forest today—it’s because I transmigrated!’
“The profundity of my power is not something you mere mortals can discern. If you doubt me, then behold this!”
With that, Glynn pulled a blood-stained piece of tattered cloth from his pocket. Instantly, the aura of the Demon King’s power emanated from Glynn’s hand, a visible swirl of black mist coalescing around his left hand.
The Goblin King stared, utterly dumbfounded. After a long pause, Glynn finally realized. ‘Wrong item, wrong item! I meant to pull out my phone and use the flashlight to scare these otherworlders.’
“No, wait a moment!”
“No need! Th-that… that terrifying power is proof enough that you are the reincarnated Demon King!”
The Goblin King immediately led his cohort of goblins to prostrate themselves on the ground. Glynn was slightly bewildered, but after a moment, he nodded with satisfaction.
‘Indeed, my left hand contains immense power! Just pulling out a random piece of cloth was enough to prove myself. Hahahaha, if I’m not the reincarnated Demon King, then who is? I am destined to be the chosen one!’
“Goblins, take me back to the Demon King’s territory! I need to thoroughly research how to establish myself in this otherworld, hahahaha—”
‘Uh, though I don’t quite understand what the reincarnated Demon King is saying, obeying him is the right course of action.’
The Goblin King nodded, welcoming their new Demon King, and prepared to announce to the entire Demon Realm that the Demon King had been reincarnated and returned!
****
“Achoo—!”
Concurrently, the true Demon King, Alexius, was at home, dressed in a small maid outfit, waiting for Teacher Lulu to bring home his men’s clothing.
‘Hmm… Speaking of which, after I left, the Demon King’s Army in this world will probably be leaderless, won’t they?’
Alas, the young Demon King still couldn’t completely let go of his work. Even if there were some utterly inhumane demons in his army, they were, after all, his troops.
However, his worries might be superfluous. The Demon King’s Army had many capable individuals; even without his unified leadership, they wouldn’t collapse by fighting independently.
‘There shouldn’t… be any problems, right?’
