Chapter 28: The First Day of School and a Teacher’s Secret

After imparting some rather peculiar knowledge to the Little Demon King, the annual opening day of the Academy of Magic swiftly arrived.

Riverheart Island, usually understated, was adorned with a myriad of vibrant floral arrangements to welcome the new students. For teachers like Lulu, however, this day promised to be exceptionally busy.

All beginnings are arduous, and the task was even more daunting considering Lulu was the homeroom teacher for the elite class. Her responsibilities were truly immense.

And yet, when the momentous day finally dawned, Lulu, of all people, managed to oversleep.

Thus, that morning saw the Young Miss frantically urging the carriage driver to race towards Riverheart Island. Upon arrival, she and her apprentice had to sprint all the way, barely making it to the opening ceremony.

“Dear new students, hello and welcome to Kaffa Advanced Academy of Magic. I am Brook, your Headmaster, and on behalf of all the teachers and staff, I extend our warmest welcome.”

On stage, the Headmaster droned on, reading from a prepared script. Lulu found herself fighting off yawns, and after a moment, she heard him declare:

“In short, I hope that throughout your studies here, you will acquire knowledge, master skills, and emerge as outstanding mages of the Empire. Thank you all!”

Clap, clap, clap, clap, clap—

A sudden burst of applause jolted Lulu awake. The Young Miss groggily surveyed her surroundings. ‘Huh? It’s over already? Did I fall asleep?’

[Ah, it’s all that Little Demon King’s fault… He’s been unsettling my thoughts these past days. I’m constantly worried he might discover something, sigh~]

Soon after the opening ceremony concluded, Alexius sought her out once more. He intended to ask how he had unsettled her, having even reflected on his actions and found no fault.

Before he could speak, however, Lulu pulled him aside into a small, secluded corner and whispered:

“Alexius, you’re about to join the elite class. There’s something I need to tell you.”

“What is it, Teacher? Just tell me directly.”

The Little Demon King, ever direct, simply nodded. Lulu took a deep breath, then continued, “From now on, at school, try to act as if you don’t know me. We must avoid suspicion. If people discover you’re my adopted apprentice and also your homeroom teacher, they’ll assume I’m showing you favoritism in countless situations! So, it’s best not to appear too familiar with me.”

“Oh, I see~ Alright, I understand, Teacher.”

The Little Demon King stroked his chin thoughtfully. This particular request posed no problem, but the real question was…

Would Lulu, that woman, truly show him favoritism?

Alexius harbored deep doubts.

“Speaking of which, Teacher, why are you still wearing your usual mage robes? Don’t teachers have uniforms?”

The Little Demon King adjusted his Western-style school uniform, looking quite pleased with himself. Lulu scrutinized him from head to toe. ‘Hmm… this boy actually looks quite presentable this time,’ she mused.

The Academy of Magic’s uniforms leaned towards a distinctly Western style, somewhat resembling the Hogwarts attire Lulu had seen in the Harry Potter movies from her previous life. Boys wore smart blazers, while girls donned standard short skirts paired with white over-the-knee socks. Lulu had to admit, the schoolgirls looked quite appealing in their new outfits.

As for why a uniform existed even in this other world, Lulu actually found it quite beneficial. With everyone dressed uniformly, the nobles wouldn’t be able to compete over who had the most beautiful or extravagant clothes. The Academy of Magic was, after all, a place of learning, and the school certainly wouldn’t want students diverting their energy elsewhere. Moreover, this way, Lulu wouldn’t have to worry about the Little Demon King being troubled by his inability to afford noble attire.

Well…

It wasn’t that Lulu was unwilling to buy him clothes; the main reason was that she genuinely had no money!

The former Lulu had always been engrossed in magical research, just as she had been in her previous life as a Battle Saintess. All that relentless study had left her so impoverished she’d relied on the Church for aid. ‘No,’ Lulu thought, shaking her head, ‘I can’t continue like this in this life; I must focus my efforts on earning money!’

Ugh, but no matter how much she pondered, she couldn’t find any viable path. Industrial development? Magical creation? Lulu understood none of it. ‘I hadn’t even grasped advanced math in my previous life,’ she mused. ‘How are all you transmigration university students so amazing?’

‘Am I the only useless one?’

Of course, in this world, with the existence of magic, many things could be accomplished through it. So Lulu truly had no idea what to do with herself. ‘Never mind,’ she decided, ‘I should answer the Little Demon King’s question first.’

“Ahem, teachers can wear whatever they wish, of course. Uniforms are meant to curb competition among you students. Besides, does it make a difference what I wear to class? Am I not still teaching you magical knowledge? Now, study hard!” Lulu admonished the Little Demon King in her usual elder-like tone.

“No, it’s not that. I just think you’d look really good if you wore those girls’ uniforms~”

The Little Demon King delivered the compliment at just the right moment, causing Lulu’s face to flush crimson. However, she quickly regained her composure, her expression turning cold as she said:

“I… my age isn’t suitable; I can’t wear them. Now, hurry back to your class and don’t be late for the first lesson! I’ll be there shortly.”

Lulu’s tone seemed flat, as if she hadn’t taken the Little Demon King’s words to heart. But… in reality…

[Ugh… Argh, argh, argh, argh! That Little Demon King, he actually… he actually made such an outrageous request! He wants to see me in this world’s schoolgirl uniform? How utterly terrifying!]

Although she presented herself as a mature, elegant woman, it was only because Lulu found the style rather cool and barely acceptable. If she were truly forced into a soft, cute girl aesthetic, Lulu felt her male pride would undeniably shatter that day.

And my heart, it was as solid as iron!

Alexius: ‘Oh~ So Teacher believes her age isn’t suitable for wearing little girls’ clothes, and she’d get shy if she did. Tsk tsk, she’s not *that* mature, is she? Hehehe, but I’ll make a note of this, another weakness~’

“I think Teacher is very young, actually!”

The Little Demon King, without a shred of seriousness, noisily departed. Lulu rolled her eyes at him, then tidied up for a moment. Afterward, she attended a meeting with the Headmaster and other teachers. Only when everything was concluded did she finally set off towards the elite class.

Arriving at the classroom door, the young woman deliberately paused for a moment. She wanted to gauge the mental state of this year’s elite class students when their teacher wasn’t present.

‘Ah, the prospects seem quite good,’ she thought. Recalling her previous life’s high school “rocket class” for college entrance exams, where everyone was driven to madness and no one even left the classroom during breaks, she figured this place wouldn’t be much different.

“Oh dear, isn’t that Brother Claire? I heard some kid humiliated you in the entrance exam? Oh, he’s in this class too, haha… well, ahem, who cares about him, right?”

“The magic potion my daddy bought me was incredibly potent; I truly might not have gotten into the elite class without it!”

“I heard the goblin scourge has been quite severe lately. Oh~ there’s a rumor that Lord Bass is coming from the Imperial Capital to eradicate them, but I wonder if it’s true~”

“Hey, has anyone seen my sapphire spirit tree watch? Honestly, how could it just disappear! Without that, how am I supposed to display my family’s status? Damn it!”

Ah… hahaha…

This level of clamor, with conversations flying in every direction, made Lulu feel… it was louder than a kindergarten, akin to a bustling marketplace. ‘Do your noble etiquette lessons completely omit classroom discipline?’ she wondered.

‘Never mind, I was deluding myself,’ she thought, searching her memories. Previous years had been exactly the same.

Lulu cleared her throat twice. Then, she suddenly stepped into the classroom from the doorway. Immediately, the room fell into a stunned silence.
