Chapter 18: The Demon King’s Unforeseen Prowess

As Lulu pressed the button on the control panel, a 0.5-tier Murloc monster was summoned into the combat room. Standing before the creature, Alexius, the Little Demon King, tightened his grip on his sword.

From her chair in the second-floor control room, Lulu observed the scene below through the glass, her gaze sweeping over the arena. As things stood, a fierce battle seemed utterly unavoidable.

‘Oh, is the monster I summoned perhaps a bit too high-leveled?’

[A 0.2-tier Little Demon King against a 0.5-tier Murloc monster? This… *cough*… seems a bit too challenging for him. And he might even try to use that spinning magic I just taught him, Sword Blade Storm, a skill with an incredibly low ceiling…]

[Hmm, it’s fine! I’ll just crush the Little Demon King’s confidence first. After he gets thrashed, I’ll teach him a couple of practical moves, then lower the monster’s level. Hehe, I truly am a master of PUA.]

Lulu gazed at the scene below, her heart brimming with delight and a smug sense of triumph. There was one thing she knew for certain.

[The Little Demon King definitely won’t be able to use Sword Blade Storm well~]

Down in the arena, Alexius, hearing the white-haired mage’s thoughts, couldn’t help but let a faint smile play on his lips.

‘Sword Blade Storm. The name is rather edgy.’

‘While it’s undoubtedly a trivial trick, to think I couldn’t use it well? That’s underestimating me far too much!’

Alexius lifted his gaze. Through the glass on the second floor, Lulu watched him with cool, clear eyes, even extending a hand to give him a little encouraging wave.

‘Heh… if I couldn’t hear her thoughts, Teacher Lulu would truly be the epitome of an ice queen.’

‘In that case, allow me to show you what I can do.’

Alexius drew his Blazing Dragon Sword, and the power of a 1st-tier mage instantly surged into its hilt. The blade erupted with dazzling fiery light. The small Murloc before him let out a guttural growl. Alexius frowned, then, raising his sword, he sprinted forward.

‘Oh, wow…’

Lulu on the platform was instantly taken aback. [The Little Demon King… his movements are indeed quite agile!]

[Approaching so quickly, it seems he’s actually going to use *that* move, isn’t he?]

Alexius knew well that, with his current strength, it wasn’t difficult to quickly dispatch a mere 0.5-tier summoned creature. A summon’s magic tier didn’t directly correlate with a mage’s. As magical constructs, all summoned beings had their power discounted by their tier.

Yet, in the very next second, just as Alexius prepared to execute a draw-and-slash, the small Murloc suddenly leveraged its racial advantage! Using its specially structured legs, the Murloc abruptly sprang, leaping four to five meters into the air.

‘Oh no…’

Lulu, in the spectator stands, felt a surge of worry for Alexius. [This… the Murloc monster is going for a jumping slash! If the Little Demon King doesn’t react in time with Sword Blade Storm, he’s going to be obliterated by that aerial attack!]

However, in the very next moment, Alexius swiftly devised a countermeasure. He planted his feet, seizing the precise timing. As the small Murloc descended to a certain height, he unleashed a powerful upward slash!

Bang—!

With a resounding clang, his blade collided with the bone knife clutched in the Murloc monster’s hand. The Murloc instantly lost its balance, tumbling backward in the direction of Alexius’s swing.

Alexius seized the moment, swiftly dashing to the predicted landing spot, and then…

Chant!

[Spinning Magic!]

In the next second, resistance beneath his feet gradually vanished under the influence of magic. Sword Blade Storm, activate!

The blade, blazing with demonic flames, spun rapidly, forming a fiery tornado. The Murloc monster was swiftly shredded into strips by the furious blades, then dropped to the ground, quickly disintegrating into magical energy that flowed back into the training system.

Hiss—

Lulu watched from the platform, utterly bewildered. [I… I was just worried Alexius would get hurt, and my hand was already on the ‘destroy summon’ button. I never imagined… the Little Demon King would make such a last-minute counter-kill?]

[What’s going on? How… how did this guy manage to use Sword Blade Storm so effectively? Isn’t this skill universally considered bottom-tier?]

[No… that’s wrong! It must be luck! The Little Demon King just got incredibly lucky, that’s it!]

Lulu gritted her teeth, utterly defiant. No, again!

“1st-tier monster, come forth, Boar Monster!”

Lulu’s lips curved into a smile. [Hmph, Little Demon King, beating a small Murloc was pure luck. But a 1st-tier monster, can you handle that? Hahahaha~]

A few minutes later…

Lulu watched, utterly dumbfounded, as Alexius expertly kited the Boar Monster, leveraging his agility. Not only that, but he also demonstrated a quick-cast combo: a dash followed by Sword Blade Storm, canceling the skill’s animation lag to swiftly end the spinning state. This allowed him to achieve a short burst of damage while gaining additional movement.

By continuously moving and attacking, the tough, thick-skinned Boar Monster was eventually worn down and defeated by Alexius.

[Oh… oh no! How did a casual move I taught him turn into such a display of mastery?]

A chill ran down Lulu’s spine. [No… this casual move I taught him won’t become a crucial skill for the Demon King to destroy the world in the future, will it? No, please no~! Yamero!]

‘Hehehe…’

Downstairs, Alexius listened, unable to suppress a slight smile. From such a distance, however, Teacher Lulu couldn’t possibly discern it.

‘Ha, what do you think? Didn’t expect that, did you? I’m getting excited too. It’s been a long time since I’ve fought. Trying it today, it still feels the same!’

[No, no, no! I absolutely must crush the Little Demon King’s confidence today! It must have been because the Boar Monster was countered. Tier two, bring out a tier two!]

On the platform, Lulu frantically waved her hand, mashing buttons with wild abandon. A moment later, a 2nd-tier Winged Bird Monster materialized in the combat room.

‘Uh…’

Lulu’s lips curled upwards as she looked at the stunned Alexius below, her smugness instantly returning.

[Hmph, what now? A 2nd-tier monster, and an agile one at that! Little Demon King, still smiling? Can you still manage a smile?]

[This 2nd-tier monster is going to utterly destroy you… Hey, hey, hey? Why are you grabbing its neck?! Don’t be so violent, seriously! My chicken bro, my chicken bro! Oh, what are you doing~! Oh no…!]

Lulu watched, completely bewildered, as Alexius unleashed another quick-cast Sword Blade Storm. In less than a minute, he performed a “quick-slice chicken neck.” The chicken bro didn’t even have time to react; its wings hadn’t even spread before it met a gruesome end beneath his blade.

[Holy crap! Wha… what’s going on? How can the Little Demon King, by mastering a ‘sewer-tier’ magic, defeat so many monsters beyond his level? Is it his incredibly formidable swordsmanship from before? Or is this person truly a gifted prodigy?!]

[No… no, I refuse to accept this! You stinky Demon King, again!]

A furious Lulu began mashing buttons with desperate abandon. 3rd-tier, no, even a 3rd-tier monster wouldn’t satisfy her anymore!

[4th-tier! I’m going to totally obliterate the Demon King today!]

Lulu yelled, releasing a 4th-tier monster: the phantom of a Blazing Dragon.

Seeing the sudden appearance of the magic dragon before him, Alexius gulped.

‘Teacher Lulu… you really have faith in me! Damn…’

Just as Alexius was pondering what to do, suddenly…

Click.

With a soft click, Lulu stared blankly at the control panel, her heart stopping.

‘The… the joystick broke!’
