The little demon king tilted his head, utterly bewildered by the yellow-haired youth who was now openly challenging him. He didn’t even recognize this person.
“Hmph? Me? You dare ask who I am? You’ve got some nerve, commoner.”
The yellow-haired youth scrutinized the little demon king’s simple attire once more, then shook his head dismissively.
“Let me repeat myself. This is the enrollment queue for the Academy of Magic, not a place for commoners like you. Understand?”
“Just take your test. What business is it of yours whether I’m a commoner or a noble?”
Alexius’s face grew cold. He showed not an ounce of deference to the noble young master before him.
The yellow-haired youth blinked in disbelief, then sneered.
“In Kaffa City, there’s nothing I can’t meddle with! Let me tell you, I am Claire Swin, the nephew of Kaffa City’s lord. Got it?”
“Oh, hello, nephew.”
Alexius’s expression remained placid, though he felt a slight urge to chuckle. The way Claire spoke, one might think he was the lord’s actual son.
‘How did I flatten Kaffa City in my previous life again? Oh, right, I think I instantly killed that lord with a single move.’
‘Besides, the lord’s family name isn’t Swin, is it? At most, this person is a distant cousin. He really thinks he’s someone important…’
“You…!”
The commotion between the two drew numerous gazes. Lulu, who had been chatting idly with the principal on the platform, also turned her head upon hearing the noise.
‘Wow…’
‘She hadn’t noticed before, but upon looking, they were already locked in a confrontation?’
‘The little demon king was arguing with a yellow-haired youth? Lulu listened closely, realizing it was because the yellow-haired youth looked down on commoners?’
“Ah, just look at these noble children nowadays. This Claire, a child from the lord’s in-laws, is already this arrogant.”
“I need to go check it out…” Lulu declared, preparing to rush over, but Brook, standing beside her, held her back.
“Hey, Lulu! Don’t be so hasty… It’s just a minor squabble. As a teacher at the academy, it’s best not to give anyone reason to claim we’re showing favoritism.”
“Mm…”
Lulu, who had intended to mediate, nodded reluctantly. She then resumed her anxious observation of the situation.
They hadn’t started fighting yet, but if they did…
‘She would still have to protect her little one!’
“Heh, kid, you’re quite arrogant. You’d better actually pass the selection, or else I’ll make sure you regret it! Tsk, but then again, you don’t actually believe a commoner like you can get into the Academy of Magic, do you?”
Claire’s expression turned sinister, and his words were an undisguised threat.
Given that this world constantly faced the threat of the Demon Lord’s army, the Empire had always maintained a protective stance towards students of the Academy of Magic.
Essentially, once admitted, few dared to directly harm them.
Claire’s meaning was clear: the little demon king had better get into the Academy of Magic today, or else he would certainly make his life hell later.
The little demon king smiled faintly, then declared:
“Not only will I enroll, but I’ll also get into the elite class, because there’s a very important person waiting for me there.”
‘Very…’
‘A very important person?’
On the platform, Lulu had faintly caught the little demon king’s last remark, and her vision instantly swam.
‘Tears welled, but she dared not embrace them.’
[Phew~ Forget it, let’s just take the little demon king’s words as a son’s reverence for his father!]
Below the stage, the little demon king’s lips twitched, then he shook his head and chuckled. ‘Of course, I’ll get into the elite class. I still need to go mess with that Lulu and torment her!’
‘But why ‘father’?’
The yellow-haired youth, having heard Alexius’s words, paid no mind to any “important person.”
Hearing only the phrase “elite class,” a sneer curled his lips as he spoke:
“Elite class? What a coincidence, I’m aiming for that too. But do you even have the strength? Forget it, is the elite class a place for commoners like you? What tier is your level at? We certainly don’t want to be classmates with a commoner like you, it’s embarrassing.”
Before Claire could finish his taunt, the examiner at the testing platform shouted helplessly at the two.
“It’s your turn! Stop chatting and come take the test!”
“Tch—” Claire grumbled, slightly annoyed by the urging. He turned his head and sneered at the little demon king behind him.
“Just you watch! You’ll never reach my level of strength in your lifetime!”
Turning, Claire strode swiftly to the testing platform. The magic stone before him emitted a subtle blue-violet glow.
Its principle was similar to a weight scale in the original world. Test-takers would channel all their magic power into the stone, and based on the feedback, their current magic power level could be accurately determined.
“Claire, Tier 0.7 Mage. Not bad. Next!”
“Hmph~”
Claire’s face showed a smug satisfaction. He moved two steps to the side and then watched the little demon king’s testing process, clearly intending to await the results so he could mock him.
Lulu couldn’t help but break into a cold sweat. ‘Oh no!’
[The little demon king is only Tier 0.2! Claire is definitely going to mock him to death. This is terrible!]
Even Principal Brook, standing beside her, couldn’t help but feel a surge of tension at the sight.
Yet, Alexius calmly walked to the magic stone, placed his hand upon it, and after a moment, infused it with magic power, even holding some back.
A flash of purple light appeared, and moments later, the results manifested on the magic stone.
“Alexius, Tier 0.8! Impressive, huh? Just a little bit higher, you see. Now, some young master is going to be quite embarrassed!”
The examiner laughed heartily, his tone laced with sarcasm. Lulu stared wide-eyed in bewilderment.
She saw the little demon king’s lips curve into a slight smile. He turned his head to see Claire staring back in utter disbelief, his lips trembling as he stammered, “You…”
Unable to form a complete sentence, the little demon king merely tilted his head. Without uttering a word—or perhaps deeming it beneath him to speak—he exited the testing area directly, heading towards the combat trial.
Claire was left standing there, a look of profound disbelief on his face, under the gleeful gazes of the onlookers.
After a long moment, he finally processed what had happened, then scurried away like a shamed rat.
****
“Well, I’ll be! Tier 0.2, so it was only 0.2 away from Tier 1! Hahahaha, Lulu, how could you miscalculate like that? You’re far too modest! You’ve taught them exceptionally well. Tier 0.8! Your disciple has a bright future indeed!”
“Ah… no… this…”
Lulu’s face was a mask of disbelief. ‘What… what in the world is going on?!’
[Weren’t he still Tier 0.2 just two days ago? How did the little demon king level up so quickly just by applying medicine for two days?!]
[Hiss… this, this speed, could it be that in another two days, the little demon king will reach Tier 1? And then, after entering the Academy of Magic, he’ll just soar all the way to Tier 10?]
[It’s over!!! What do I do, what do I do? This kid’s potential is far too astonishing! This is a damn unstoppable genius, boohoo…]
[In this situation, she actually arranged for him to enroll?]
[What… what was she trying to do when she first adopted the little demon king, anyway?]
[To… to raise him into a good-for-nothing…?]
Lulu’s vision swam once more.
